Who was Antonio Gaudi?Gaudi was born in 1852 in a town called Reus, in Spain.
He moved to Barcelona, in Spain, to study architecture.
He designed buildings for many people. His work was considered to be very unusual.

Barcelona is in Spain. It is a large city,
situated on the coast.
Gaudi’s buildings
Here are a selection of photographs of
Gaudi’s work.
Which styles do you like?
Can you identify his use of colour, line, tone,
pattern and shape?
Guell Palace
Guell Palace was built between 1886 and
1888. The Guell family paid Gaudi to build this as a town house. They also wanted it to be a museum to show their antiques and a perfect
place for social and cultural events.

Can you see Gaudi’s chimneys?
Why do you think the doors are so
large?
Guell’s chimneys
Do you know what these spires covered in tiles are for?
They’re chimneys and ventilation ducts.
Sagrada Familia
Sagrada familia, means Holy Family in Spanish.
The construction work began in 1882 and still continues today. When Gaudi died in 1926, his plans were left behind for others to follow. It is planned to be finished in 2025.
Still under construction….
It will be a massive church, room
for:
1500 singers
700 children
7 organs
Although the towers
taper towards the top,
they have nothing in
common with
traditional sharply-
pointed spires.
Instead, Gaudi
developed his own
design.

Park Guell
Gaudi’s applied his
skills to the design of
this park.
Gaudi designed this part of the park as a
market place.
La Pedera / Casa Mila
Can you describe the shape of the walls?
Gaudi designed a courtyard in the
middle of the building
Up on the roof….
Casa Battlo
Known as the ‘house of
bones’. Can you think why it
has been given this name?
What do you notice about the
roof?
Can you describe the shape
and texture?
Now it’s your turn to record
your ideas about Gaudi’s
work.
