HAND AND SKIN DISINFECTION PRODUCTS The First Step of Controlling an Infection

Hand Disinfection has a major role in infection control.

According to worldwide experiments, hands represent the

greatest risk for the transmission of disease pathogens

from personnel to patient and patient to patient.

Alcohol-based hand disinfection products are recommended

by the WHO because they are highly e�cient against a broad

spectrum of microorganisms and take e�ect rapidly.

Hygienic hand disinfection is standardized according to

European Standard EN 1500. 30 seconds are required to

Surface Disinfection with Mechanical Action

Surfaces are considered as non-critical items as they

contact intact skin. Usage of non-critical items or contact

with non-critical surfaces carries low risk of causing an

infection for patients or sta�. For this reason, a routine

cleaning process with this range of products will be

su�cient.

Disinfection and application will be determined by the

needs of the facility and should include such considerations

as types of surfaces, ventilation and odor limitations, as

well as the turnaround time required for the room or area.

Disinfected area should not be used until visibly dry. Wet

mops are a source of infection and should therefore be

kept always dry. Disinfectant solution should be

discharged after usage. Don’t mix other chemicals with

the solution.

This range of products provides cleaning and disinfection

at the same time and additionally they are neither toxic

nor irritant.

Decontamination of Surfaces

There are two main types available for wiping hard,

non-porous surfaces: those that are alcohol based and

those which are non-alcohol based. Actosept® AF group

products are belongs to �rst group which are rapid,

alcohol based disinfectants for all type of surfaces (except

acrylic glass and alcohol-sensitive surfaces).

Surfaces which are contaminated through direct contact

by hand or skin must be cleaned and disinfected. If not

appropriately cleaned and decontaminated, these surfaes

can contaminate hands, gloved hands, instruments,

equipment and devices. The recommended cleaning

process begins with the removal of any barrier �lm from

the surface with gloved hands.

If the surfaces are contaminated with organic load, Rapid

Surface Disinfectant should be sprayed and remained

completely wet for the recommended contact time. After

contact time, surfaces are wiped to dry with a clean

single-use wipe.

If the surface is sensitive for intense moisture, wipe disin-

fectants should be used.

Disinfection and sterilization are essential for ensuring

that medical and surgical instruments do not transmit

infectious pathogens to patients. Failure to properly

disinfect or sterilize equipment carries not only risk associated

with breach of host barriers but also risk for person-to-person

Cleaning of instruments is the �rst step of disinfection and

sterilization. Material compatibility, recommended dosage

and time are the major points of the disinfection process.

Organic load should be removed from instruments by

pre-cleaning and thus increase the disinfection e�ect.

Water quality is also important for cleaning and disinfection.

If the chlorine and iodine ratio is too high, it may cause

corrosion which is more harmful for the instruments than

In dental clinical evaluations of high-speed handpieces,

Rotating instruments such as turbines and handpieces

Cleaning and disinfection are important components of

infection control in a hemodialysis center. During hemodi-

alysis, patients may get infected with blood borne viruses

and pathogenic bacteria. Patients and personals should

use alcohol based antiseptics such as Actoderm® to

eliminate transmission of microorganisms.

And also, non-critical surfaces (e.g., dialysis bed or chair,

countertops, external surfaces of dialysis machines, and

equipment; i.e. scissors, hemostats, clamps, blood

pressure cu�s, stethoscopes) should be disinfected with

suitable disinfectants, beside the hemodialyzers.

While using Actodiacit® and Actodiacit® PA in hemodialyzers,

instructions of machine manufacturer are to be followed

at elevated temperatures.
