Tomates San Marzano - DOP This outstanding variety of tomatoes, which has beengranted a Protected Denomination of Origin certificate,is grown in the Sarnese-Nocerino agricultural area inItaly’s Campania region, between Naples and Salerno.With its fleshy, bright red pulp and its elongated shape,this is Italy’s quintessential tomato.
This is a variety of tomatoes grown exclusively in the volcanicregion of Vesuvio. The soils where this variety is cultivated arethe result of a thousand-year- old layering of the lava and aredifficult to reach because they are at high altitudes. It isrecognized as a traditional food product of the larger Campaniaregion and has been certified « DOP Vesuvio Piennolo tomatoes »since 2009.
