Dipole Antenna
1) Thedipoleantennaprovidesthebestreceptionofthethreeantennaswhenproperlypositioned.Thedipolean-tennaconsistsofanactive sectionandalead-in section(seeillustrationonpreviouspage).
2) Positiontheactive sectionofthedipoleantennaagainstawalloralongaflatsurfaceofanon-metallicpieceoffurniture.Keeptheactive sectionofthedipoleasstraightaspossible.Usethumbtacksorbradstosecuretheendsandthemiddleoftheactive section.
3) ConnectthedipoleantennatotheSoundWorksRadio820HDbypushingtheconnectorplugontotheFMan-tennainput.Youcancoilexcesslengthofthelead-in
section,thensecureitwithtwisttiesortape. Note: Theactive sectionofthedipoleantennacanbepositioned
horizontallyorvertically.Placingthedipoleantennaonanoutsidewallimprovesreception.Theactive sectionofthedipoleantennacanalsobepositionedalongabaseboard.Tryadifferentplacementsandorientationsoftheactive sectiontodeterminethebestoverallreception.

Telescoping Whip Antenna
Thetelescopingwhipantennaprovidesgoodreceptionandcanbeeasilyadjusted.Withadjustmentfactoredin,itmayperformthebestofthethreeantennas.
Onceproperlyinstalled,thetelescopingwhipantennawillremainatanypositionyouplaceit.
ToInstall: a)PushtheendoftheantennawiththenutontotheFM
connector. b)Slipthesuppliedwrencharoundtheantennaandslip
itupagainstthenutendofthewhipantenna.Thewrenchflangeswillbeclosetotouchingthebackoftheradiowhenyouhavesuccessfullyslippeditontotheantennanut.
c) Tightentheantennanutsecurely. d) Removethewrench,thenpushtheantennaupright.
Extendthewhipantenna,thenadjustforbestreceptiononaparticularstation,asrequired.
Note: ForFMstationsbelow94mHz,theantennawillalways
performbestiffullyextended.Stationsabove98mHzmaybenefitfromareductioninlengthofupto2-3inches.

Wire Antenna
1) IfallthedesiredFMstationshavestrongsignalstrength,thewireantennacanbeused.Itistheeasiestofthethreeantennastoinstallandconceal.
2) ConnectthewireantennatotheSoundWorksRadio820HDbypushingtheconnectorplugontotheFMan-tennainput.
3) Thewireantennacanworkwellsimplyhangingdownfromthebackofadeskorbookcase.Experimentwiththepositionoftheantennawire,keepingitasstraightandextendedaspossible.
Ifyoufindasinglepositionfortheantennathatreceivesallstationswell,tapeitinplace.Repositiontheantennaasrequiredtogetthebestsignalforthedesiredstation.
Two Orientations for the Wire Antenna
If there is a wall behind the radio, let the antenna hang straight down.
Run the wire antenna along the edge of a table or just underneath the edge of the table.

Other Antenna Options
TheFMantennasandtheAMantennaprovidedwiththeSoundWorksRadio820HDwillworkwellinmostlocationsthatgetadequateFMandAMreceptiononconventionalradioreceivers.ButtheremayanFMorAMstationofinterestwherereceptionismarginal.Toimproverecep-tioninmarginalcases,re-positioningtheantennaorusingalargerantenna(orboth)aretheonlyreliablewaysofimprovingreception.

A Note About Connecting A User-Supplied FM Antenna
TheSoundWorksRadioFMantennainputisan“F”connectorsocket.Foreasyconnection,anusersuppliedFMantennaorcoaxcableshouldhaveapush-on“F”connectorplug.MostretailFMandTVantennaproductscomewithascrew-on“F”connectorplug.Touseoneoftheseproducts,obtaina“screw-on to push-on” adapterplugforan“F”connectorThispartisavailableatmanyRadioShackandWalmartretailstores.

nectorplugthatissmallenoughtoslipthroughtheplasticantennawrenchsuppliedwiththeSoundWorksRadio820HD.Inthiscase,usethewrenchtoattachtheantenna.
A typical “rabbit ear” style antenna, with “F” connector and User-Supplied Screw On to Push On adapter.
“Rabbit Ears” fully extended. This configuration will provide the best reception when rotated or repositioned for peak signal strength on a specific station.
“Rabbit Ears” in the more convenient, one-ear vertical configuration. This arrangement will receive most stations well. Some experimentation will be required to find a single location that works on your favorite stations.

FM Reception: INDOORFMANTENNAOPTIONS:Thecommon“rabbitears”
antenna(normallyassociatedwithTVreception)isasuperbFMantenna.Placedontopoforbehindashelforotherlargepieceoffurniture,thisantennaprovidesgreatFMreceptionataverylowprice.
TheadvantagesthisantennahascomparedtothesuppliedFMdipoleare:
Anincreaseinsignalstrengthwhenbotharmsarefully extended. EasierrepositioningfordifferentFMstations,especially iftheantennaisusedinthe"oneearvertical"mode. Thedisadvantageofthisantennaisitslargesizewhenbothears
arefullyextended. Lookforasimplemodelwithnoextraneousloops,knobsor
switches.Thesefeaturesdon’thelpFMreceptionandincreasetheprice.Insistonanantennawitha“shielded”lead-inwireter-minatedbyan“F”styleconnectorplug.Donotchooseamodelwithaflatleadwireterminatedbytwospadelugs.ThereisnoreasonablewaytoattachspadelugstoaSoundWorksRadio820HD.GoodexamplesofthedesiredstyleantennaaretheRCA ANT-110and RCAANT-111.

Additional Antenna Options
Ifyoulivemorethan20milesfromanFMtransmitterofinterestandyouliveinawoodframebuilding,considerplacingormountinganFMantennainthetopofthebuild-ing(atticorcrawlspace).Runadditionalcoaxlead-inwiretotheradio.“RabbitEars”couldbeusedforthispurpose.
ItisalsopossibletouseanFMantennadesignedforoutdooruseinanatticorcrawlspace.Theperformancewillnotbeasgoodasoutdoormountingbutitwillstillbemuchbetterthanlowerdownintheresidence.
ThebestoverallradioreceptioncanbeobtainedfromanFMantennadesignedforoutdoorusemountedonaroof-top.Someexamplesfollow:
WinegardPR-6000(length33”,width65”), andirectionalantenna,goodifallstationsarein roughlythesamedirection. AntennacraftFMSS(maxwidth54”), anomnidirectionalantenna,betterifthestationsof interestarelocatedinwidelydifferentdirections.
