What do Anteaters look like?

Most Anteaters have long tails, claws, and snouts.

They can be up to 7 feet long.

They can weigh 59 to 105 pounds.

Anteaters have small ears and eyes.

They have bushy tails and sharp claws.

They have long sticky tongues that can be up to 22 inches long.

Where do Anteaters live?

Anteaters live in the grassy plains and rainforest.

Mostly in Central and South America.

Some live on the ground and some in trees.

What do Anteaters eat?

Anteaters are insectivores. That means they eat only bugs.

They like ants, termites and bees.

They can eat up to 5,000 insects in one day.

They catch insects by flicking their tongue.

Anteaters have no teeth.

They mush their food on the top and sides of their mouths.

Life Cycle of Anteaters

Anteaters live and hunt alone.

The only time they get together is to have young.

Mommy anteaters give birth to one cub.

Cubs drink milk and eat ants.

Cubs leave their mothers after 6 to 9 months.

Do Anteaters have enemies?

Anteaters only have a few enemies.

They are jaguars, mountain lions, and humans.

Anteaters use their sharp claws to protect them.

They also use camouflage.
