Newsletter October, November, December 2010 Minnesota Squadron awards, Earhart, two Mitchell’s, three 2d Lt’s and Grover Loening Awards night is always a special event at Civil Air Patrol, MN Wing, Anoka County Composite Squadron. 16 November 2010 was very special as C/Capt Matt Frame receiving the Amelia Earhart Award while C/ 2d Lt’s Donald W Raleigh III and Jonathan E Whitcomb were presented the Gen. Billy Mitchell Awards, 2d Lt’s Craig Borchardt, Mike Kenny and Ted Persing were formally presented their Lt bars and Maj Bill Menkevich received the Grover Loening award. All of the MN Wing Command and Chaplin were in attendance as presenters and guests which is unusual that they were able to attend an event at the same time. They were Wing Commander, Col Tom Theis, Vice Commander, Lt Col Mike Moen, Lt Col Don Sorenson, Group II Commander; Chaplin, Lt Col Don Mikitta along with the Squadron Commander, Capt Shelly Supan. Col Tom Theis presented C/Capt Matt Frame the Amelia Earhart Award by congratulati on him and saying, “there are only a small percentage of the Cadets who reach the third highest award level in CAP”. “Keep up the good work and I’m sure you will reach the second highest award real soon”. Lt Col Don Sorenson presented the Mitchell Awards to C/2d Lt’s Donald Raleigh III and Jonathan Whitcomb. “The Mitchell Award is also a Major Award and for Whitcomb it took him to many years to accomplish but he did not give up”, said Sorenson . “In my earlier years in CAP I did not push myself to advance as I should have”, said Whitco mb. “When I saw the younger Cadets passing me by I put more effort into CAP and it paid off”.

Capt Shelly Supan, Commander and 1st Lt Don Raleigh, Deputy Commander for Seniors, awarded the 2d Lt Barto Craig Borchardt, Mike Kenny and Ted Persing. Lt Kenny said, “Ted and I received our Mitchell Awards the samnight when we were Cadets”. “This is another special event at Anoka Squadron”.
The Awards event was MC’d by Now 2d Lt Ted Persing.

On Tuesday, the 5th
of October, the Civil Air Patrol, Anoka County Composite Squadron had their weekly
Tuesday night 6:25-9:15 meeting.
The evening begun with opening formation, as with all other regular meetings. After opening formation,
C/Capt. Matt Frame presented an Emergency Services (ES) class. During this class, some cadets took CadetPhysical Fitness Tests (CPFT’s), which are required for their next promotion.
After the ES class and CPFT’s, announcements were held, topics were discussed and cadets were promoted.Following announcements, closing formation took place to end the meeting.
Promotions!
C/SrA. Brett Fox promoted to C/SSgt. A very important promotion as this is the first of the NCO grades. Also
C/Amn Jessup Studer promoted to C/A1c.
Awards Ceremony and Character Development
On Tuesday, the 16th of November, the Anoka County Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron held their
weekly Tuesday night meeting. Being the third meeting of the month, the dress uniform was blues. Also an
Awards Ceremony was given, which is done by the squadron quarterly, to honor those who have reachedcertain levels of achievement.
The Awards were given by the Minnesota Wing and the Group 2 Commanders. Those who received
awards are: C/2Lt. Don Raleigh III and C/2Lt. Jonathan Whitcomb, who received the Bill Mitchell award.C/Capt. Matt Frame also received the Amelia Earhart award. These cadets put in very much effort to achieve
these awards. They are all recognized as outstanding cadets who are dedicated to the squadron and to the rest
of Civil Air Patrol.
After the ceremony, cake was served and everyone had a chance to congratulate the cadets who
achieved awards. After a short period of cake and discussion, Senior Member 1st
Lt. Frame had a CharacterDevelopment class, as is done every month. This class was directed towards integrity. It was about how
people should act in integrity challenging situations, how people should make the right choices, even if they
can get away with it.
