2012-13 ANNUAL REPORT SUMMARY
Mar 14, 2016
RECTOR’SINTRODUCTION
Morrison’s Academy has, in its 153 years of successful schooling, educated thousands of children, many of whom have achieved great things throughout the world. We number physicians, scientists, professionals, business leaders, entrepreneurs, actors, adventurers, authors, artists, athletes and teachers. We have made our mark on the world and we continue to do so.
Our pupil roll remains constant and through our engagement with our community of former pupils, parents, trusts and corporate friends we have been able to offer 43 pupils transformational, means-tested bursaries worth £187,141 (2011-12 £164,083).

CO-CURRICULAR
2
There is far more to the experience of a Morrison’s Academy education than the accumulation of good examination results. We offer a rich and comprehensive curriculum: trips and expeditions, both local and international; the thrilling, successful Brewin Dolphin Bowl rugby final at Murrayfield; ski-trekking in Norway; surfing at Machrihanish; a drama trip to London to see ‘We will Rock You’; the David Wilson Trail Relay Race in Hong Kong, a joint enterprise with Crieff High School and St John’s Academy, Perth. Added to that are Quiz teams, poetry competitions, Karate and Climbing clubs and the new Film Making Club.
We are also very proud of our commitment to Music with over half the school taking part in musical activities and we have won many awards and competitions. There really is something for everyone.
OUR SCHOOLPERFORMANCE& ACHIEVEMENTS
Our objective remains to provide
a first-class education through
a combination of skilled and
challenging teaching and the
participation of all the pupils in
the programme of co-curricular
activities. Through this we will
ensure our pupils develop into the
confident individuals, successful
learners, effective contributors
and responsible citizens that the
Curriculum for Excellence intends
for all our pupils.
2012-2013 proved to be, once
more, a successful year for
examination results. The Advanced
Higher results are almost a carbon
copy of the previous year with a
96% pass rate, 40% of which were
at ‘A’ Grade. The Higher pass rate
improved to 90%. At Intermediate
2 level, the pass rate was 96%
and the Intermediate 1 pass rate
was 94%.
The School has invested £1,005,348 in the fabric and furniture of the school. The Library has benefitted from employing a part-time librarian and installing a suite of 25 computers in the Summer of 2012. At the same time, all the school’s computers were replaced and the Primary School was furnished for the first time with 25 laptops. In combination with the SMART Boards that have
been introduced into each Primary School classroom, it is safe to say that IT is thriving in Primary! A great deal of work was undertaken to upgrade and improve aspects of the school’s fabric and facilities. By far the most exciting and expensive investment in the future, however, was the completion of the new Nursery building. This is the first new building on the campus for 40 years.
WHAT DID WE ACHIEVE?HOW DID WE INVEST?
3
Fundraising in pursuit of the School’s charitable purpose is managed through the Development Office. Its focus is to develop a community beyond the boundaries of Crieff, to create global networking opportunities for children as they leave school and to promote friendships and support. We seek to encourage investment in the school through engagement to bring to life the Board’s vision: the creation of a fully endowed bursary scheme and an ambitious
redevelopment of the school’s facilities and buildings. To accomplish this vision, the school has introduced a campaign to create an endowment fund that will be used to provide financial support for those parents who cannot afford the full fees. Looking to the future, the school aspires to develop this fund to support financially up to 10% of the pupil population. Former pupils, staff and governors are all being encouraged to join the legacy programme and thus leave
money to the endowment fund in their wills. The Development Office has also put in place a Patrons’ Programme, whereby former pupils are being asked to sponsor pupils directly through the school. We want to reach out and provide financial assistance to a wider range of pupils who desire access to, and would benefit from, the life-changing opportunity that is a Morrison’s Academy education and so fulfil the wishes of our founder, Thomas Morrison.
