Overview of Indigram Labs Foundation:
Indigram Labs Foundation was set up as a Technology business incubator in 2015 and
supported by NSTEDB, Department of Science & Technology, and Government of
India in the month of September, 2016. It is established with the aim of developing
startups in the space of Agribusiness, Technology, Education, Healthcare domains that
have potential to grow full-fledged business enterprises which can touch & transform
for better tens of rural lives. Apart from being an incubator, Indigram Labs also have
an accelerator operation for identified setups to achieve the stated mission. These
enterprises are selected on the basis of the power of the idea, its business model,
potential to scale up and Social impact apart from motivation that drives the
entrepreneurs. ILF has Research and Development agreements for IARI i.e., Indian
Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and Central Food Technology and Research
Institute, Mysuru. ILF is also in the process of collaboration with different Agricultural
Universities in India and also with some good old TBIs in India.ILF has been promoted
by Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP). ISAP is having PAN India
presence.
ILF is also into different training programs, seminars, and orientation programs for
students on innovation and entrepreneurship, conducting Agri EDP, skill development
programs on various Agri and Agro businesses including Farmer Producer Companies
(FPC or FPOs), organizes several motivational camps, capacity building programs,
training programs for innovative technology-based methods for productivity
enhancement of Agriculture products, Marketing linkages, packaging etc.
Currently, ILF has 3 physical incubates, 5 virtual Incubatees and around 10 are in pipeline.

Aim
ILF targets to incubate 100 starts ups in next 10 years through the process of
Consulting, Mentoring, Prototype Creation, Leveraging Technology tie-ups and Access
to Platforms that yield the stated results, Other Business Management (legal &
secretarial) Office space services and also co-funding for them. The current focus of
ILF is to promote creativity and innovation in the field of agriculture & healthcare,
enabling us to lead a better life.
Objectives:
1. To help youth build, grow and develop in the field of technology & innovation
in the field of agriculture & healthcare, enabling us to lead a better life.
2. Identify potential Entrepreneur and nurture and support them to develop
independent self sustaining business.
3. To foster linkages between the parent institution, Industries and R&D
institutions in the region and other related organizations engaged in
promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) including NGOs & other
voluntary organizations
4. To catalyze and promote development of S&T based enterprises and promote
employment opportunities.
5. To provide a platform for speedy commercialization of the research and
technologies developed in the institutes.
Function:
1. Identify market niche for technology products and services to be addressed.
2. Train the entrepreneurs in technology and business management.
3. Offer the professional business development services for the entrepreneurs who
have mature concepts for unique and innovative products assessed to have
strong commercial viability
4. We provide need-based Company formation services, Legal and IPR support
to Start-ups which is an added advantage of being an
incubatee.

Activities
1. Deliver orientation programmes for students, faculties, researchers and aspiring
entrepreneurs to enable venture creation.
2. Disseminate our research and innovation to the local community via tailored
made programmes i.e need based skill development training programmes in
Agriculture & Technology, Rural Focussed Health & Wellness & Clean Energy
& Automation areas.
3. Organise and run annual Business Plan Competition and Prototype contest which
offers experiences to the participants and free incubation support for six months
to the first three winners.
4. Organise and run innovator and investor meet to bridge the gap between R&D
and product development funding.
5. Support and promote agri-preneurship in the region in partnership with
NGO/CBOs though training, demonstration and dissemination of rural
technologies to the grass root people.
Incubation Process:
The Start-up Selection criteria are constituted as follows:
Tend to be small in terms of numbers of employees (perhaps 2-4), and to be a primarily
process owner, for research and providing inputs, and to be accelerated firms.
The Startups may be of the following profile:
1. Must be technology based and should be Innovative; if that product already exists in
the market some value addition must be there. 2. Should have completed Proof-of-Concept.

3. Commercial viability and Sustainability is necessary. 4. A proper Business Plan is necessary; in the absence of a proper business plan, the
request for membership will be accepted if business proposal looks promising prima-
facie to the expert committee. 5. The clarity and potential of the market opportunity 6. Financial feasibility and a clear potential clientele. 7. Should have significant technology content, employment potential, and revenue
generation potential. 8. Commitment (preference for full time Entrepreneur) 9. Team Members & experience 10. Proper Plan to carry forward & societal impact

Highlights for 2017|till date Financial Year
Indigram Labs Foundation has taken several initiatives to popularize innovation and
entrepreneurship. In a short span of time it has established the TBI with currently total
8 start-up companies incubated. Out of these 3 companies are physically present, 05
companies are virtual incubatees and 2,342 agriventures through ACABC program in
collaboration with ISAP. ILF has also conducted several capacity building and training
program for 24 Farmer Producer Companies through FPOs training program.

o New Leaf Dynamic Technologies Pvt. Ltd: Creating Agri-waste based bulk-
milk chillers and vegetable cold storages. They can operate without electricity
and use agriculture waste for generating the heat-energy.
o Indian Agribusiness Systems Ltd: IABSL conducts a specialist information
collection operation and produces information reports and consultancy to
Government of India and other private sector players of MNC origin for crop
related information. Build a Crop-Insurance based engine to give estimates for
government agencies and banks.
o Federation of Indian FPOs and Aggregators -FIFA: FIFA facilitates, farmer
produces to be sold to consumers that are corporate / government agencies /
MNCs. This effort is to provide a solid background support to One-India: One-
market forum to facilitate livelihood of farmers.
Virtual Incubatee:
o Jayalaxmi Agrotech Pvt. Ltd: To address connectivity gap to provide
agricultural solutions and advisory to farmers install Agri-Pole. Adding a farmer
each 5 minute to use the platform for obtaining crop related information.
Currently 25 crops are covered in Kannada language.
o Sainhun Ventures Pvt. Ltd: Multi-flora Honey and Orange-honey are collected
providing employment to village people. The same is branded currently
"Blossoms" and sold to retail outlets. Value addition on Wax for beauty and
medicinal products is being underway to develop different product lines.
o Acugro Pvt. Ltd: Online and off-line connectivity of Farmer-to-farmer
equipment rental market place.

o Prakrut Enfinite Agrispace Pvt. Ltd: The Hydroponics concept based
vegetable and fruits production facility is already proof-of-concept done.
Commercial model is under creation.
o North East Natural Foods Pvt. Ltd: North East based organic spices that are
processed with processors so that the nutrient values are not lost. So that it can
be branded appropriately and sold in high end retail and hotels to pass on
premium to farmers.
Initiatives/ Collaborations/ Network established with industry / academia:
The venture is set up to facilitate economic development by developing and nurturing
innovation and enable them to establish small, medium – business enterprises leading
to the creation of job, rejuvenate communities, commercialize critical new technologies
and strengthen local and national economies.
The R&D efforts of the ILF are application oriented and as such there is a conscious
and close working relationship between the technology experts of the academic
institution & TBI. The TBI has a Governing body comprising of eminent personalities
including subject experts. The technical experts are associated right from the screening
of the technology proposed to be incubated till the graduating out of the incubatee into
a successful Start-up unit. In its efforts to provide the best of its kind inputs to its
incubatees, the TBI draws from the strength of Scientists, Researchers and other
experts from various faculties of the University such as Agriculture, Information
Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Dairy Activities, Engineering, Computer
Engineering, Law, Medicine, Management etc. The ILF has been working with some
of the best Universities and Research Institutes across the India such as IARI, CFTRI,
Shobhit University, Mewar University.
Besides these, the TBI interacts with various Industry bodies to
spread awareness about its programmes and facilities.

The TBI, association with specialised organisations also holds workshops involving
senior industry resources, senior practitioners in the fields of Finance, IPR, marketing
etc for the benefit of Incubatees and potential entrepreneurs.

One of ILF first incubates, “New Leaf Dynamic Technologies” acknowledged
as one of the top 50 innovations in India by Department of Science &
Technology (DST) Govt. Of India, Lockheed Martin, FICCI, Stanford Business
School & TIE Network.

One day training programme was conducted in Bangalore for all CEOs of FPOs. CEOs of 24
Farmer Producer Companies FPCs promoted by ISAP attended the training along with the Project Coordinators.

specifically in food processing sector.
The key points included in the session were:

Pradeep Lokhande Founder, Rural Relations
He has been working very hard for almost 20 years on his dream - to
make the villages of India computer literate. He has personally
visited 5,800 villages across the country, to know the essence of the
various cultures and traditions and soak in its ethos. In this process
not only is he helping students in the villages but is providing
valuable data related to conditions and challenges faced by these villages to various
corporations to help them understand the consumer behavior.
Dr. Thillai Rajan Professor in the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras
He was Associate at the Mossavar Rahmani Centre for Business and
Government, Harvard University. His teaching and research areas
include Corporate Finance, Venture Capital Project and Infrastructure
Finance, and Real Options. In 2010, he was awarded a Fulbright
Nehru Senior Research Fellowship at the Harvard University. He is a
co-founder director of two start-ups - YNOS Venture Engine and
Money-Wizards.
Dr. Satish Chandra Ex-Director Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur
A former Director of ICAR's Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur
and a former ADG-PIM (ICAR), Dr Chandra was a Rockfeller
Fellow during doctorate and a Post Doctorate Fellow at IARI and
University of Illinois, USA, respectively. An agriculture scientist
from green revolution era, he developed wheat varieties, pearl-millet
hybrids and chickpea varieties. He has experience of international
collaborative research with Universities in Australia and USA, and
with CGIAR Institutes like CIMMYT, ICRISAT and ICARDA.

An Independent Member of Board of Directors of leading companies
in India, he has been and is a part of strategy and decision making
structures of these companies. An experience of over 25 years in
Industry, Professional Firms and as a Senior Professional Consultant,

Vegetable vertical. His earlier assignments include working with
PEPSI BEVERAGES as a Unit Head, Vice President (Sales &
Mktg) with CREAM BELL ICE CREAM. Started career with National Dairy
Development Board and worked in oilseeds & Vegetable Oil Wing besides
working with Mahanand Dairy, Mumbai and Mother Dairy, Kolkata on
deputation during 1983-92. He also had a stint of ten years with Dalmia Dairy
Industry, post NDDB at Delhi.

Gaurav Vats has over 14 years of experience commodities trade
research, event management, ICT interventions in agriculture and
web-based content development. In ISAP, apart from leading the
work on monitoring, evaluation and learning, he is also managing the
ICT based projects for agriculture development. He holds a M.Sc.
(Agri Extension) degree from Haryana Agriculture University (HAU), Hisar.
Mr Ravish Vasan
Co-Founder, MicroX Foundation
Graduate from top colleges of India namely IIT Guwahati and IIM
Ahmedabad, Ravish worked for couple of years with top tier
consulting company - PwC before leaving corporate life to pursue his
calling in purpose-driven entrepreneurship. Along with his friends
from Jagriti Yatra, he runs a non-profit, agriculture oriented
organization MicroX Foundation from Gaya, Bihar. In last 2 years, they have
worked with 1000+ marginal farmers in 25 naxal-affected villages of Gaya,
Bihar. They provide end-to-end advisory support to farmers from crop planning
to market linkage along with encouraging sustainable and profitable agrarian
livelihood using modern agro-techniques and leveraging latest technology.
Ravish looks after market linkage and application aspects of latest and low-cost
technology in agriculture. Aside from work, Ravish loves meeting inspirational
people, reading amazing books, doing meditation and exploring new places.
Uma Maheshwaram Mandi
