Every year it’s a pleasure to report out the successful delivery of Workplace Learning Connection services throughout our seven county footprint. We offer our most sincere gratitude to our many school, business and regional community partner organizations who make the goal of connecting today’s students to tomorrow’s careers a reality.

Building a high quality work-based learning service delivery system is a product of time and collaboration. Achieving a system of comprehensive and equitable program delivery to our educational partners requires investments of both financial and volunteer support. Hundreds of regional businesses, economic development agencies, partner non-profits, government agencies and regional school districts have developed our system over many years. When the notion of a future-ready, work-based learning solution comprised of a professionally staffed “intermediary” arose over twenty years ago in the Cedar Rapids community, could any of those thoughtful visionaries ever imagined the regional impact of their concept? This past year that impact was 29,031 student work-based learning experiences served through WLC programs. Workplace Learning Connection continues to deliver on that concept as a proud department of Kirkwood Community College. In FY18 we embark on our 20th year of service, making quality work-based learning connections for students, educators and our business community with a clear vision and purpose in our work; to be the leader in regional, national, and global education.

That vision of leadership and excellence in work-based learning program delivery is a team effort that can only be realized through the thoughtful use of talents, mutually beneficial relationships and collaborations. We all believe that Iowa’s Creative Corridor is a vibrant community with a future workforce ready for a changing world. The WLC Team and our regional partners will continue to support the next generation of our workforce through innovative program delivery in FY18 and beyond!

Many STEM fields are represented at our center, such as mechanical, electrical, and human factors engineers, and computer software developers, yet there are people with business, art, and psychology background who are also vital to the center and the research we do.
