Today’s public libraries are learning centers that extend beyond the traditional classroom, assisting children, teens, adults and seniors to succeed in careers and in life. This was ever so apparent in 2015 as Mesa County Libraries expanded early literacy storytimes and events for parents and small children, increased personal assistance with research and technology, added classes for adult English language learners, and created numerous informal learning opportunities for adults. Signature events in 2015 included One Book One Mesa County featuring Can't We Talk about Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast, the rst ever Library ComicCon, Summer Reading events and activities for the whole family, CultureFest entertainment and displays from over 30 dierent countries, and the grand opening of the 970West Studio, which will assist residents in 21st century digital literacy skills. Our sta are getting out into the community and are developing services that truly make a dierence in the lives of those we serve. The info-graphic of library use and activity in 2015 tells one part of the story. Our facilities, technology and collections are well-used and programs well-attended. Our nances are in good order. The other part of the story is that our institution is committed to providing excellent library service and continuous learning opportunities for our community. The Library Board of Trustees, sta and our aliate nonprots, the Mesa County Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Mesa County Libraries, are engaged and support our mission to enrich lives and build community through opportunities to learn, discover, create and connect.
