Four clients moved to an Intermittent Community Integrated Living Arrangement (ICILA) location. This promotes greater independence than the 24-hour supervised setting in which they had previously lived.
4
Brian recently celebrated his one year anniversary as a Packaging Specialist at Midwest Organics in Algonquin thanks to his job commitment and AID Employment First services. The skills Brian acquired through AID Employment First services extend beyond employment. He now lives on his own, takes public transportation and manages his own finances.
AID “Employment Services” is now “Employment First”. This new program name captures the unique philosophy of the community service. Employment First is centered on the premise that all citizens, including individuals with disabilities, are capable of full participation in integrated employment and community life.
Curtis receives AID Home Based Support (HBS) which provides him and his family multiple resources and supports so he can live to his best ability at home with his family. The AID HBS program is instrumental in working with Curtis to identify his strengths and challenges so he can maximize his full potential at home, work and in the community.
The AID HBS program served 227 adults and 16 children in FY19. There was a significant increase in the requests submitted to DHS for assistive technology, home/van modifications, and emergency crisis funds.
Jennifer attends Community Day Services (CDS) at the Aurora Keeler Center. Over the past year Jennifer has created several products for Keeler Craft Sales. Her favorite things to create are greeting cards for various occasions. She has learned many new skills! Jennifer also promotes craft sales by passing out flyers and showing customers products that she helped make.
CDS activities include classes in healthy cooking, exercise, coping skills, music, art, sewing, choir, cultural awareness, photography, gardening, crafts, sign language/iPad communication, Smartboard, and computer classes.
5
AID Developmental Disabilities (DD) specialists continue to collaborate with community partners including Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA) and Fox Valley Special Recreation (FVSRA) to provide community activities and skills training.
Clients in the Behavioral Health (BH) program partnered with Water Street Studios (Batavia) to present the “Never Underestimate the Power of a Person” Art Exhibit. A showcase of artwork and spoken word created by clients from the AID BH Creative Expressions Group.
6
Elliott recently celebrated 365 days of sobriety. He secured a job as a case manager for Pioneer Human Services where he works at a residential living facility helping those who have a behavioral health or developmental disability diagnosis. He is successfully living independently in the community thanks in part to AID McHenry Behavioral Health services.
AID McHenry partnered with Home of the Sparrow in March 2019 to offer therapy services at the shelter for women and children. AID McHenry has also partnered with Full Circle Communities to offer on-site group therapy and social skills group for residents at Pearl Street Commons.
Homeless and staying at House (Aurora), Cynthia was linked to the AID Community Support Team (CST), where she set specific goals and ultimately attained permanent housing for herself and her four children. She celebrated Christmas in her own home with her children and is now looking forward to achieving other goals such as completing her GED.
CST is an intensive team approach that provides services to best meet mental health needs, reduce symptoms, reduce emergency room visits, prevent homelessness and eliminate unnecessary call-outs to emergency personnel. In FY19, CST assisted 7 homeless individuals in attaining housing, and, after stabilization services, helped 19 clients achieve a greater level of independence.
Before Ray found AID services, he was failing school, using illegal substances and facing legal issues. Ray, with the assistance of AID Children’s Behavioral Health Outpatient (CBHOP) services, made the positive changes needed to graduate high school (one year ahead of schedule) clean and sober. Ray is currently employed full-time at a local business with opportunities to grow within the company.
In FY19, CBHOP Services began providing services to children and families in McHenry County. In addition, AID CBHOP collaborated with Breaking Free (Aurora) to provide spanish speaking parenting groups. Families seek services for a variety of reasons including mental illness, trauma and disruptive behavior.
