NORTH DAKOTA TAX CREDIT

NDSCS has a rich history full of wonderful success stories related to students, alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, friends and donors. The generosity of NDSCS Alumni Foundation donors supports the “Tradition of Success” and we couldn’t be more grateful. Creating a Cumulative Giving Report that spans more than 100 years is a challenging task. Inevitably, with all the changes over time, there may be some oversights. We welcome your assistance in keeping our records accurate.

Connecting Passion and PurposeShawn Faller was an ambitious young man. He grew up in West Fargo, N.D. and immediately following high school graduation, he began working for Weisgram Metal Fabrication assembling beet pilers while attending Minnesota State University Moorhead.

In 1995, Shawn started working full time in the fabrication department and was fortunate enough to be taught welding skills by his co-workers. He thrived and was a dedicated employee for Weisgram until he passed away in 2016 after a battle with colorectal cancer.

Shawn’s wife, Deanna Hellman Faller, knew her husband took great pride in his work and the new challenges it presented. She wanted to see her husband’s passion for welding carry on. She visited the NDSCS Wahpeton campus in May 2018. Deanna saw the many talented students enrolled in the Welding Technology program and started an annual scholarship in memory of Shawn.

Deanna is also starting an endowed scholarship in his name for students in NDSCS welding, robotics and manufacturing programs. Deanna, along with co-workers and friends of Weisgram Metal Fabrication, have hosted golf tournaments over Labor Day weekend to raise money for the Shawn D. Faller Endowment Scholarship. Pictured are Deanna and her three daughters at the golf tournament sporting their NDSCS gear.

The NDSCS Alumni Foundation would like to thank the Faller family for supporting students, leaving a legacy for a loved one and making a difference for years to come.

North Dakota taxpayers have a special tax break. Contributions of $5,000 or more to qualified North Dakota endowment funds are eligible for a 40% tax credit. The easiest planned gift to make for an impact on the future of NDSCS students is an endowment. This tax credit makes it possible for you to give more and make a greater impact on the students, faculty, and programs that benefit North Dakota communities.

The following is an example of what the tax credit would look like based on the 24% tax bracket.

CUMULATIVE GIVING REPORT

On January 1, 1987, the official name of the College changed from North Dakota State School of Science, NDSSS, to North Dakota State College of Science, NDSCS. That was also the year President Clair T. Blikre ended his leadership after serving the college for 21 years. Decades after Dr. Blikre’s tenure as NDSSS president, Alumni Foundation members and donors created the Blikre Society to continue his legacy.

The Blikre Society is a philanthropic group passionate about raising money through planned giving. Membership has been updated to include those who have donated or pledged a gift of $10,000 or more and/or have included NDSCS in a planned gift.
