OverviewThe Social, Entrepreneurship and Consulting Cell (SECC) is a student-driven body at Symbiosis Institute of BusinessManagement(SIBM)Puneandoneofthenineteamsofthestudentcouncil.Theteamfunctionsunderthreewings-Social,EntrepreneurshipandConsulting.ThemainaimoftheSECCisto:

1. Bringaboutachangeinthemindsofstudents,inspirethemtotakeupentrepreneurialactivities,buildthestartupecosysteminthecampusandbringthestudentsinlinetothecountry’sstartupculture.

2. Instillasocialresponsibilityinthemindsofthestudentsandcontributetheirparttothesociety.3. Assist budding startups through student consulting and thereby provide exposure to the students in various

industries.

Anentrepreneurialconclave,aprismofopportunitiesoryourplatformtodisrupt:describeitinanywayyouthinkfitsbest.India@75presentstheEntrepreneurship2016wastrulyoneofthebiggesteventsthattookplaceonthesceniccampusatLavaleofSIBM,Pune.OrganisedbytheSocial,EntrepreneurshipandConsultingCellofSIBM Pune, the Entrepreneurship Summit brought in participants and start-ups from diverse domains andgeographiesacrossIndia.

Pride&PassionPride&Passionwasoneofthemostwidelyanticipatedandsuccessfulevents.DistinguishedGuestssuchasMr.RahulNavrekar-CEOofIndianRoots,Mr.HarshadLohati,Co-founderofAh!VenturesandMr.AshwinSanghi,theAuthorofKrishnaKey&ChanakyaChantaddressedanenthusiasticaudienceandsharedtheirlifestorieswiththem.

‘Aarush’the24-hourStart-upChallenge‘Aarush’wasanothereventwhereprominentjudgeslikeMr.AmitRawatastart-upmentor,Mr.RajivPrakashfounderofNextIn,MrSiddharth Deshmukh from Shimbi Labs helped in making thecompetition a grand success. The Flagship competition of theEntrepreneurship Summit, where participants experienced thespiritofEntrepreneurshipwithin24hours.Itwasaneventwherenurturing budding entrepreneurs was an integral aspect. Ascontestantsnotonlygottocompeteagainstthebrightestmindsinthecountry,butalsohadtheopportunitytolearnfromseasoned

professionalsinthefieldofentrepreneurship.

JugaadJugaad-TheFundRaiser,isoneofitskindsellingeventswhichprovidestudentswithanexcitingopportunitytoexploretheirsellingskillsinrealworldbyapplyingclassroomconcepts.Theeventprovidedtheparticipantsachancetoshowcasetheirsellingskillsanddotheirbittowardsthesociety.SECCsourcedgoodsproducedbylocalartisansandcraftsmen,tobegiventothestudents,whosetoffintothecitytosellthematinflatedprices,theproceedsfromwhichweredonatedtovariousNGOsinandaroundthecity.Aninitialcampusroundwasheldwhereineachoftheparticipatingteamsoftwomemberswereaskedtomakeasalespitchcentredonrandomarticlestothejudgingpanel.

SymbihaatSymbiHaatisacarnivalwherestudentsofSIU-Lavalesetuptheirenterprisesunderthecategoriesoffood,gamesormerchandise for2daysorganizedasapartof theEntrepreneurshipSummit2016,onAugust5–August7.Itwasconceptualizedinordertogivethestudentsachancetoexperiencethethrillofrunningtheirownbusinessforashortperiodoftime.Theywereinvitedtoapplyforstallsbysendingintheirbusinessplans.The stalls were then auctioned on 31st July to the registered teams. The auction was hosted byMrRiteshKhatwani,FacultyofFinance,SIBMPune.Studentshadagreatexperiencebothvisitingandowningthestalls.Thisyearsawveryuniqueideasinthenon-foodcategoryliketemporarytattoos,customizedaccessories,etc.

Run-BhoomiAstrategybasedvirtualIPLauctionwasaneventthatmadeitswayintotheEntrepreneurshipSummitfortheveryfirsttime.TheeventwasinitiatedthroughaquizafterwhichthefinalistsmadeittothecampusonAugust6th2016forthefinalround.Thiseventtestedthestrategicmindsoftheparticipantsastheteamshadtobuildabalancedteamtoprevailagainstthecompetition.

CaseStudiesandotherCompetitionsTherewere3CaseStudyCompetitionsthatwereconductedaswell.‘Conquest’aliveCasestudycompetitionpoweredbyEmSeva,‘MindSpark’acasestudychallengepresentedbySofomoEmbeddedSolutionsPvtLtdandconductedbytheMark-O-PoloMarketingSocietyofSIBMPune,andlastbutnottheleast‘Prayaas’alivecasestudybasedonaSocialproblem;whereMrs.PreethaMenonandDr.MallikaSrivastavagavethecompetitionaconsiderableamountoftheirtimetomakeitsuccessful.‘Q-riosity’anopenbusinessquizconductedbyQuodtheQuizzingclubofSIBMPune

WithsuchadiverserangeofcompetitionstheEntrepreneurshipSummithelpedinspireandspreadthecultureofentrepreneurshipamongthestudentspresentatLavaleCampus.

ChaiwithEntrepreneurChaiwithEntrepreneur(CWE)isaseriesofinformalmeetupsofbuddingentrepreneursofSIBMonceineverymonthoveracupoftea.CWEisagreat initiativewhichtriestobringacompetitiveandinteractivestartupecosystematthehilltopLavalecampus.

ThiseditionoftheeventwasgracedbyMr.AmitRawat,TeamLeadatHeadstartNetworkFoundationandHostofStartupSaturday,Pune.Thesessionwasaveryengagingandinteractive,whereMr.AmitRawatanalysed‘Tastykhana’-acompanythatrevolutionizedtheonlinefoodorderingindustryinIndia.SuchananalysisexposedthebuddingentrepreneursofSIBMPuneandspeciallytheInnovation&Entrepreneurshipbatchto several concepts that are applicable to a startup such as, identifying your go to market, marketing or branding,bootstrappingorfunding,businessplan,elementsofafundingpitchandpostfundingstrategiestonameafew.Alloftheseareelementsanaspiringentrepreneurmustconsiderandwearesurethattheparticipantsofthesessionwilltakeitintheirstrideandapplythesametotheirownventures.

TheSocial,EntrepreneurshipandConsultingcellon13thNovember,2016undertookonesuchinitiativewheretheteammembersdistributed120blanketstotheneedyarounddifferentpartsofPunecityinordertohelpthemendurewinter.

FundsforthiseventwereraisedthroughJugaad-TheFundRaiser,aneventofEntrepreneurshipSummit2016.TheeventwascarriedovertheperiodofonedaywheretheSECCteammovedalloverthecityandcontributedinasmallmannertoassistthoseinneedandhelpthembeartheapproachingwinter.

ConsultingFair2.0TheConsultingWingofSECC,SIBMPuneproudlyorganizedtheConsultingFairinPune.ItwasaonedayaffairwherethestartupsfrominandaroundPune&MumbaicametoSIBMPune,Lavalecampustoidentifythebrightestmindsofthecountrytoworkontheirconsultingassignments.Thistime,13 companies offered 17 profiles to the students of SIBM Pune (MBA Regular and MBA I&E)acrossmultipledisciplines-Marketing,Finance,HumanResources,OperationsandInnovation&EntrepreneurshipontheConsultingFairdaywhichwasheldon26thNovember2016.

140studentsappliedforthevariousprofilesonoffer,fromwhich93studentswereshortlistedforinterviews.44studentswerefinallyselectedtoworkliveprojectsthroughtheConsultingFair2.0.

Theimpressiveline-upforthedayincludedstartupslikeOyoRooms,Almedus,CarIQ,ShimbiLabs,Codecyclopedia,ChaiPaani,Finnovation,InjectedIndiaPvtLtdandTapSolartonameafew.

Theconsultingassignmentwasabusinessproblemwhichthesestartupsfacedoranyotherprojectwhichthecompanywillassignedtothestudentgroupswhoworkedonitfor4-5weeks.Hence,thiscreatedanenvironmentandopportunityfor the students of SIBMPunewhoworkedon real business problemsby applying theirmanagement education andgainingindustryexperiencesimultaneously.

SanjuktaSECCmembersalongwith11studentsfromTheNanyangTechnologicalUniversityvisitedNavkshitij,anon-governmentalorganizationworkinginthefieldofRehabilitationofMentallyChallengedAdults.

Thevisitwasaimedatunderstandingthelifestyleofthespecialfriendsandspendingsomequalitytimewiththem.

The event reallymade up amemorable day for the special friends atNavkshitij and a heart-warming experience foreveryonewhovisitedtheplace.

StationeryDriveInassociationwithLetsSpreadLove,Pune,SECCisorganizedaStationeryDrivebetween17thto20thJanuary2017forthebenefitofunderprivilegedkidslivinginvariousorphanagesacrossthecity.Aspartofthedrive,wedonatedstationeryitemstothesekidstohelpthemread,writeandachievetheirdreams.

WereceivedimmensesupportfromstudentsacrossSIBM,Punetomakeadifferenceinthelivesofthesechildren.

MyJourneywithVadaPav-BookLaunchAs a part of the entrepreneurial events conducted by the Social, Entrepreneurship and Consulting Cell an eventwasorganizedattheSIUcampustolaunchthebookofMrVenkateshIyer,theCEOofGoliVadaPavIndia’slargestNationalEthnicFoodChain.

The event was highly engaging where Mr Iyer took the audience through his journey which were accompanied byhumorousanecdotesthroughoutthesession.ThisparticulareventwasveryinformativeandcomplimentedSECCeffortsofspreadingthecultureofentrepreneurshiponthesprawlingLavalecampus.

Prerna6.0Prerna is an initiative started by the Social, Entrepreneurship and Consulting Cell of SIBM Pune, aimed at spreadingknowledgeandsmilesamongpeople.Launchedin2011,theobjectiveofthiseventisnotonlytoteach,buttoinstillinpeopleapassiontolearnnewthings.Everyyear,aspartofPrerna,weteachandgivevocationaltrainingtothosewhocomefromlessprivilegedbackgroundbuthaveadesiretolearn.

This year,Prerna was executed in collaboration with RITES Ltd an ISO 9001:2008 company, is a multi-disciplinaryconsultancy organization in the fields of transport, infrastructure and related technologies and was given financialassistancetothetuneofRs.10lakhsunderRITESCSRPlan2016-17.RITESLtdtopromotea cashlesssocietybyorganisingawarenessdrivestopromotevariousdigitalpaymentplatformslikeBHIM.

In the firstweekofFebruary, volunteers fromSIBMPuneconductedsurveys in thevillageswithin theMulshiTaluka,checking the feasibility of the project. The targetswere narrowed down to four villages based on the availability ofinfrastructureandresourcesattheselocations.

TheprojectwasconductedintwophasesspanningtheentiremonthofFebruary.DuringthisperiodthestudentsfirstorganisedapilotprojectatthevillageofLavalewhichyieldedencouragingresults.Asaresultofwhich,inthefirstphasethestudentsfromSIBMPuneconductedtrainingsessionsforthecampusstaff, that includedcloseto300 individuals,includingthesecurity,messandhousekeepingpersonnel;allofwhomresidedinvariousvillagesintheMulshiTaluka.

Additionally, door to door sessionswere also conducted over three consecutive days at the village ofNande,wherestudentswenttothehousesoftheresidentsandindividuallytaughtthemaboutdigitalbankingandonlinetransactionswithspecialemphasisonthepracticaluseofBHIM,thedigitalplatformlaunchedbythegovernment.

In the secondphase, training sessionswereorganisedat thevillagesofAmbadved,Ghotawdeand Lavale,where thestudentstaughttheresidentsaboutthevariousaspectsofbanking,digitalmodesofpaymentandBHIM.Theeffortwasreciprocatedbygreatenthusiasmfromtheresidentswiththemassesturningupingoodnumbers.Allofthesittingswereveryinformativeandtheattendeesofthesesessionscannowimparttheknowledgetheygainedontotheirfamiliesaswell.

Inasteptomakelifeeasierfortheruralpopulationwhoareyettobehitbytechnologyandinpursuanceofagreatercauseofattainingcompletefinancialinclusioninthecountry,theprojectmadeanimpactonmorethan1600peoplebyassistingtheminthetransitiontodigitalplatforms.

UmangUmangisaninitiativebythesocialwingoftheSocial,EntrepreneurshipandConsultingCell(SECC)ofSIBMPune.ItisaneventthatisorganizedannuallywithanoblethoughtofmakingChristmasmerrierforeveryonewherein,thestudentsofSymbiosisInstituteofBusinessManagement,PunecelebrateChristmasDaywiththeunderprivileged.

ThisyearSECCcelebratedChristmaswiththeirspecialfriendsfrom‘SaraswatiAnathShikshanAashram’and‘ChhatrapatiPratishthan’sresidentialschoolformentallychallengedchildren’asapartofitseventUmang2016.

In this regard,donationswerecollected incashandkind fromstudentsacross theLavalehilltopcampus,whichwereutilizedtoprocurepresentsforthesechildrenandfulfillthespecificrequirementsgivenbytheseNGOs.Thestudentsfromthe Lavale campus supported this initiative even during this period where they faced a cash crunch as a result ofdemonetizationbymakinggenerousdonationsviaEwallets.

On 25th December 2016, student volunteers from SIBM Pune along with members of SECC visited these NGOs andconductedavarietyofculturalactivitiesinanendeavortotrulyspreadsomewarmththisChristmas.TheselittleactsofkindnessmadeagreatimpactonthelittlesoulsattheseNGOs.Theconclusiontothismemorabledaywasmadeevensweeterbythecuttingofacake,whichwassharedandrelishedamongalltheparticipantsofUmang2016.

‘Theheart thatgives, gathers’ is anaptdescription for thisparticularevent, as theexperiencegainedwill foreverbecherishednotonlybythechildrenbutalsobythestudentswhowereanintegralpartofthisinitiative.

WinterInternshipTheWinter Internships are a part of the curriculum of the Innovation& Entrepreneurship course. SECC assisted thestudentsofMBAI&EinsecuringinternshipsatvariousNGOsacrossthecountry,wheretheobjectivesoftheInternshipwere:

• TosensitizetowardsIndia’ssocialsector,issuesandchallengesfacedbymasses• TocreateunderstandingoftheroleofNGOsandtheircontributiontothesociety• To understand NGOs’ functioning as a social venture and identify several aspects pertaining to effective

functioningofNGOs

Theinternshipswereforaperiodof2weeksinthemonthofOctober2016.SomeoftheNGOsthatcameonboardforthisendeavorwereHelpAgeIndia,GoonjandArriveSafe.
