Letter from the DirectorFrom the Desk of Jeff Buchta February 24, 2016
In 1994 a friend recommended I read a book titled, “Half Time” written by Bob Buford. The premise for this book is that as one nears the end of a successful career they should consider a move to participating in or leading a nonprofit organization. To quote Bob Buford, a person would be “moving from success to significance”. Our Board of Directors gave me that opportunity in April of 2015 and I haven’t looked back since.
This is the greatest job I have ever had. To witness over 95 volunteer dentists and specialists, supported by our incredible staff and students from Marquette University School of Dentistry and Fox Valley Technical College perform over 35,000 procedures for 11,760 patients last year is incredible!
In our Focus on the Children program we offer comprehensive dental care, for free, to all students in Winnebago, Outagamie and Calumet counties who are in the free and reduced lunch program in their schools. Last year we had 5,200 visits from children in this program, an increase of 22% over 2014. The total number of visits to our clinic and bus last year, including low income adults, was 14,153, an increase of 24%.
Dentists chose 78 students from our Focus on the Children program to receive free orthodontia in our Tri-County/Wetherbee Orthodontics program. Last year, 14 happy children had their braces removed and 64 students were in screening, consultation or in appliances.
Our dental bus was out 95 days in 2015. During the school year we are treating students at schools throughout the 3 counties. During the summer months we park the bus and treat patients at food pantries, homeless shelters, domestic abuse shelters and Boys and Girls Clubs.
This is happening because of YOU! Thank you to our donors, our supporters and to our volunteers. With your help, we are changing lives and bringing back smiles.
Our MissionTri-County Dental is an all-volunteer dental clinic whose mission is to provide quality oral health care services in a caring and compassionate manner to those individuals in Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago counties whose access to dental health care is limited due to inadequate income or reduced access to Medicaid care eligibility.

VOLUNTEERS
George has been driving the mobile clinic for Tri-County since its arrival in 2012. He consistently drives 2-3 times a month. In that time, he has put in 299 volunteer hours with us.
George is an active volunteer in his community. He volunteers for St. Joe’s Food Pantry, coaches girls’ volleyball at Holy Spirit school, co-chairs his church picnic, and helps out at fish fries. Every winter, he also builds an ice rink in his backyard for neighbor kids to use.
When he is not volunteering he can be found spending time with his family; Lori, his wife of 23 years; and their 3 daughters: Abby (21), Anne (19), and Maggie (15). He also enjoys being active by running, lifting weights, hiking, playing volleyball with friends, and biking. His family often takes vacations to Colorado and the east coast to go hiking and every year, during warmer weather, he enjoys two long bike rides; one around Lake Winnebago and one to Lake Michigan.
We are very fortunate to have George on our team of volunteers. His dedication is what makes him the volunteer of the year!
Dr. Hilsabeck has been volunteering as an Oral Surgeon at Tri-County Dental Clinic since 2004. At that time, he was still practicing at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Fox Cities. Since his retirement, he has been volunteering almost weekly and has logged many volunteer hours through 2015. Dr. Hilsabeck says he enjoys working with the Marquette Dental students and Residents. He feels that both he and the students gain valuable knowledge from the partnership.
In addition to the clinic, Dr. Hilsabeck is also a hospice volunteer; working through Cherry Meadows and with individuals in their homes. When he is not volunteering, he has many outdoor passions. He enjoys hunting with his dog Pete, fishing with his buddies (also known as the Men of the North), operating heavy equipment and spending time at his Cabin. He also enjoys salt water fishing and diving and has a trip planned to Key West later this winter.
We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Hilsabeck for sharing his time and talents with us! He is very deserving of the title of Volunteer Dentist of the Year!

Through the generosity of Betty Wetherbee and area orthodontists, we have been able to provide orthodontia for many children in the Tri-County area. These before and after pictures are of two young women who have completed treatment through the Wetherbee Orthodontics program. This is truly life changing for the children and young adults who participate in the program. They are so excited for their beautiful new smiles!
Alicia has been with Tri-County Dental for 4 years. In that time, she has proven to be a valuable asset to our team. She has taken on many roles within the clinic: dental assisting, training new staff at the front desk, cleaning the mobile clinic, pulling
together month and year end reports, and arriving bright and early to make sure the clinic is clean and ready for each day. In addition to all of this, Alicia returned to school in September to complete her Dental Hygiene degree and recently married the love of her life, Nick. Great job, Alicia! Thank you for everything you do for us!
