Pastoral Council Chairperson Report – 2017

Dear Holy Family parishioners, What an exciting time for Holy Family Parish! In 2017, we said goodbye to Father Carlos and Father Thuy, and welcomed Father Tony! We will remember all the words of wisdom from Father Carlos and Father Thuy, and we wish them all the best with their new assignments. We also welcomed many new faces to Pastoral Council and were able to fill the majority of the committee chairs. We have a great team and all worked hard to build a stronger Catholic community. In 2017, we have embarked on a number of initiatives including Strategic Planning and many internal initiatives in each committee. With the help of some amazing volunteers Holy Family was able to respond to other areas of need in the parish. Shelan Schnell, Kevin Philip and their volunteer teams have provided Sacramental preparation and RCIA services to our parish. We are so grateful for their abilities and their willingness to volunteer for these roles. The face of Holy Family has been changing over the last few years. We are becoming more ethnically diverse; Pastoral Council and Father Tony see this as a great opportunity to bring new life and ability to the parish. We are working on initiatives to build on this and help welcome new families into our parish. New parish functions are being created to help build a stronger sense of community and improve engagement. Social events and religious learning events by Pastoral Council Chairs, the CWL, the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Family Quilters to name a few, are helping create a welcoming environment and we will continue this into 2018. Pastoral Council and Finance Council work closely to ensure donation dollars are being managed effectively for all the services Holy Family is offering. I want to personally thank all the chairpersons and committee members for all the work and effort they put into our Church and services. These teams help keep services available throughout the year. Their efforts are valued!

Liturgy Report – 2017

The Holy Family Liturgy Team meets with Fr. Tony Pangan numerous times throughout the year. During these meetings, discussions focus on the various duties required to help facilitate liturgies that allows the entire congregation to be fully conscious and active participants. Currently, Holy Family Parish has 11 coordinators that fall under the umbrella of Liturgy, all which are led by an amazing crew of people who give freely of their time, energy and talents. Liturgy met with Fr. Tony Pangan in the first week of August upon his new assignment, so he could gain a better understanding of the liturgical operations within the parish. A mutual decision was made to focus on three facets of Liturgy. During the Fall of 2017, three separate training sessions, led by Fr. Tony, emphasized the following Ministries: Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Altar Servers. Each of these educational training sessions were well attended and informative for both new and seasoned volunteers. Liturgy continues to be a very demanding portfolio. As we move into the last year of our second term, we continue to actively seek a suitable candidate(s) to take over our portfolio.

Pastoral Care - 2017

Pastoral Care consists of two parts: home visits and prayer requests. Home Visitation:

We currently have twelve individuals on our home visitation list. The coordinator maintains lists of volunteers and parishioners. We have twelve trained volunteers. Not all volunteers are active. Those who are active (have an assignment) bring parishioners the Eucharist on a regular basis. Outside of our parish program, the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region is responsible for hospitals and nursing homes within the Regina area. Four members of our parish program are also volunteers with the hospital-based pastoral care program. In September 2017 a one-day program called The Basics of Spiritual Care Visiting was offered by the Archdiocese of Regina to train individuals to be visitors within public or private settings, including within parish programs. Marilyn Younghusband took the program as a refresher as it was “Catholic” centred rather than the one offered by the Qu’Appelle Health District in previous years which was non-denominational.

Prayer Tree:

A list is maintained by the coordinator and distributed on a regular basis to the active prayer partners. Prayer requests can be confidential or non-confidential, and include Prayers for the Deceased. At any one time we have over 100 active prayer requests. The current coordinator has held this role since 2010, and she is actively pursuing interested parishioners to put their names forward for election in 2018.

Respectfully submitted, Marilyn Younghusband Pastoral Care Chair

Communication Report – 2017

There are 4 main items concerning communications this year. These are listed below in bold text. Review and re-organization of background processes (how the bulletin is e-mailed, how the website gets updated etc.)

- I have been meeting periodically with Jeanette La Londe to gain a better understanding of the office communications process (mainly the bulletin) and teach her how our online systems work (mainly the website).

- We noticed that the main office inbox was not receiving e-mails reliably. Miles Ciarciaglini helped to resolve this.

Communication Report (continued) - We are currently having problems cross-posting items from the website to Facebook. Miles

and I are working on a solution. Make a proposed update/overhaul to the “Communications” role in the parish constitution and bylaws to reflect our current needs Proposed Draft: The communications committee is responsible for developing and maintaining good communication flow between parishioners and the parish organizations, other parishes and the public. The chair needs to have a good working relationship with the parish office to coordinate communication efforts. 1. Parish Communications: Main Methods of Parish Communication:

● Paper Bulletin and E-mail Bulletin ● Website and Social Media ● Multimedia before/during Mass ● Advertising in the Foyer area

Communication with parish organizations: ● Assisting parish groups to get their information to parishioners by using multiple methods of communication. ● Making sure that updated pastoral council list and bylaws are available online and in the office. ● Maintaining “static pages” on the website.

Communication with parishioners

● Providing communications to parishioners using multiple methods at the same time. ● Providing a secure method for parishioners to contact the office and parish groups on the website.

2. Non-Parish communications: ● Contacting the Archdiocese, other parishes, churches and schools as needed. ● Contacting community bulletins etc. as needed.

Obtain more volunteers to form a communications team. As the role for communications gets updated, we will need a group of people to implement these objectives. I’ve started reaching out to people for assistance. We will begin meeting after the communications role is officially updated. Bulletin Our new priest Father Tony would like to spearhead the bulletin re-design. I will touch base with him in the first half of 2018 to see what resources he needs to do this. Respectfully submitted, James Lipoth Communications Chair

Social Justice Report – 2017

November was the Development and Peace fall campaign. On November 18th and 19th there was a talk, video and bulletin announcement with sign cards available the following week of November. Development and Peace links were added to the parish website for campaign information, online registration, booklets, videos, etc. Christmas Charities arranged a Christmas Tree in the foyer of the parish with tags for parishioners to select an item to bring for hampers to be given to families who could use a little extra support during the season. Twelve families were helped this Christmas. Share Lent collection from Ash Wednesday for the 2018 will be donated to Visitation House and Marian Centre equally. A video is to be presented March 17th and 18th prior to mass. Links will be in the bulletin and on the parish website. A Share Lent talk will be given prior to mass on March 17th and 18th. Truth and Reconciliation Indigenous Speaker As part of the efforts to educate parishioners about truth and reconciliation initiatives we are arranging for a speaker to present to the parish on March 13th after mass and prior to CWL monthly meeting. The Knights of Columbus and all other parishioners will be invited to attend. The speech will be in main hall downstairs. Respectfully submitted, Bill Toivonen Social Justice Chair

Welcome Report – 2017

The Welcome Committee was involved in several social events during 2017. These events included: an Easter Vigil reception for RCIA graduates, their families and other parishioners; Dinner for Pastoral Council with Archbishop Bolen prior to Confirmation; a Summer Barbeque and Farewell for Fr. Carlos and Fr. Thuy; and a Christmas Parish Potluck and Game Night. These events were all catered by parishioners through pot-lucks except for the Barbeque. The Knights of Columbus and CWL split the cost of hamburgers, hot dogs and buns for this event. All events were well attended. Respectfully submitted, Sheila Toivonen Welcome Chair

Spiritual Enrichment Report - 2017

Pope Francis said, “Find new ways to spread the word of God to every corner of the world.” The Spiritual Enrichment Committee is an active committee entrusted with assisting our Pastor and the parish in enriching the faith of the parish. We are constantly looking and praying about new ways to spread the word of God to others, to evangelize both ourselves and the community. The goal of our committee is to build the faith of the laity through spiritual formation, knowledge and understanding of our Catholic Faith, and growth in an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. Each member of the committee is passionate about growing in our faith and sharing that faith with others. We definitely don’t know everything, and we ourselves are continually discovering new and amazing things about our faith. This is a very rewarding committee to be a member of. We are continually looking for new members to contribute ideas, lead bible studies, help with organizing and the background work of events, and pray about new ways we can evangelize fallen away Catholics. We are always looking for new members! Events: Baptism Visits and Baptism Preparation Classes In 2010 we began visiting each of the families that are preparing for the Sacrament of Baptism. The visits are relatively informal and have been very rewarding for everyone participating. They consist of gathering the necessary information for our parish staff to register such families into the sacramental preparation classes, verifying contact and Birth Certificate information, collecting necessary fees, and inviting them to the Baptismal Preparation classes. In the fall of 2016 we stopped the home visits because of the time and commitment it took. We would like to one day reestablish the home visits when we have more members on our committee. At the Baptismal Preparation classes, we assist our parish staff with sharing the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism through talks on baptism. This past Fall we began to use a different Baptism Preparation Program through Ascension Press called Belonging. It is designed to provide parents with an incredible encounter with Jesus and His Church. The program seeks to prepare parents to have their children baptized and to win over their hearts at this important time in their lives. The program consists of class presentations which have videos about different topics lead by Fr. Mike Schmitz. After a video, parents meet in small groups and discuss what they have just heard. After the class, parents are emailed one lesson per week for ten weeks to help them continue to grow and reflect. We had Baptism Preparation Classes in April and September of 2017.

Women’s Retreat: Discovering All God Has for You On Saturday, February 4th 2017 we hosted a women’s retreat for 60 women. Christy Dupuis was our facilitator. She has a passion for communicating the gospel in a real and personal way. We took the day to reflect on the ‘more’ that God has for us. Christy gave four talks: Created for More – how God created us in his image but how we sometimes believe lies about how we are, Intimate Mercy – how nothing could separate us from the love of God; A way to walk in darkness, about how we all face trails but in the midst of them God is there; and The one thing that Makes all the Difference, about how we live out our relationship with God daily. The day was filled with great prayer, fellowship and food. Fr. Carlos and Fr. Marcel were available for Reconciliation. We ended the day with Adoration.

Spiritual Enrichment Report (continued)

Alpha Film Series:

On Thursday, January 19th, 2017 we began the Alpha Film Series with 35 guests. Alpha is a series of sessions that explore the basics of the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question that people can have about faith and is designed to create conversation. We began each week with 20 minutes of food and fellowship. Then there was a 30 minute video followed by a 25 minute small group discussion. We had seven hosts helping with the evenings. The sessions ran until April 6th with a retreat day on March 18th.

DVD Bible Studies: WISDOM AND WORKS OF MERCY, a DVD study by Father Michael Gaitley. September-December 2017. This was a wonderful 11-week study on the theology of the Most Holy Trinity, through three points of Communion: Communion with the Trinity, Transforming Communion with Christ, Mission of Communion. Twenty parishioners registered with 17 participants completing the study, gleaning greater understanding and depth of our Catholic Faith, the Holy Trinity, our purpose and our destiny. This study deepens one’s prayer life and facilitates a greater focus on our final destiny which is participating in the eternal exchange of love of the Most Holy Trinity. WALKING TOWARD ETERNITY: ENGAGING THE STRUGGLES OF YOUR HEART, a DVD study by Jeff & Emily Cavins. Feb 1st to March 22nd, 2018. An eight week DVD study challenging personal change through reading and meditating on scriptures to hear what God is telling us personally, and asking of us personally in the areas of: appetites, shame, envy, anger, fear, loneliness, hopelessness. This DVD study provides a greater understanding of God’s amazing love and mercy, and His great desire for each of us is overwhelming, bringing healing, hope and transformation and is perfect for our Lenten journey. There are eight participants between morning and evening sessions. Men’s Retreat: On November 16-18, 2017, Holy Family Parish hosted a Catholic Men’s Retreat. It was facilitated by Catholic Speaker Jim Murphy. Sacramental Preparation and RCIA: In the fall of 2017, two of our members began to lead Sacramental Preparation Program for Children and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. There are 116 children receiving their Sacraments this year. Because of the commitment of both sacramental preparation and the RCIA program we are continually looking for new members for the Spiritual Enrichment Team to help with the many areas God is calling us to. If you feel called to help and be a part of the committee, please contact the parish office and they will put you in touch with one of our members. Respectfully submitted, Shelan Schnell Spiritual Enrichment Chair

Ecumenical Report – 2017 On November 18th, the Anglican-Roman Catholic Covenant Implementation Committee hosted an ecumenical workshop for the ecumenical delegates from the two dioceses. It was hosted at St. Paul’s Cathedral. We received greetings from Archbishop Donald Bolen who tasked us with trying to increase the connections between our two traditions. We examined the case study of the town of Qu’Appelle where the Catholic church proper was too expensive to be maintained. As a result, the Anglican church invited the Catholic congregation to worship inside their building. The two groups worked together to make scheduling and funding work. Coming out of this workshop was the decision to exchange delegates during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity from January 21-28. Catholic churches with an ecumenical initiative had a delegation that went to an Anglican church for one weekend’s liturgical celebration and also welcomed a delegation from their parish in exchange. We are partnered with St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Regina. At each parish during the two weekends of the exchange, the delegation was welcomed and blessed during the Sunday ceremony. A member of the delegation was suggested (by the Archbishop) to read one of the first two scripture readings during the mass they attend. We also included the Anglican Church in our prayers of intention for each mass that weekend and included the Anglican bishop and our Anglican brothers and sisters going forward. During communion, the delegation received a blessing from the priest. On January 28th, Fr. Tony Pangan, Miles and Lisa Ciarciaglini and Paul Owens attended St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church to celebrate mass. There was an issue with the heating, so the mass was celebrated in their hall. Their ecumenical leader, Carol Mars, introduced our delegation to the congregation. Fr. Tony read the second reading. Paul Owens brought greetings from Holy Family. After mass, we were invited for a tour of their church proper. Coffee and cookies followed. St. Mary’s delegation came to Holy Family on February 4th for 11:00 mass. Carol Mars was invited to read the second reading. A big thank you to Verna Angielski for preparing Carol with the process for our readers. Fr. Tony offered a special blessing to the Anglican delegation prior to the final blessing. Paul Owens was invited up for the official introduction and welcome and Carol Mars brought greetings from St. Mary. Coffee and cookies followed, hosted by the Knights of Columbus. I was quite impressed with the congregation who made a point of welcoming the Anglican delegation. The Anglican delegation have been invited to the Holy Family Gala and meetings are being planned to find more opportunities to come together. Respectfully submitted, Paul Owens Ecumenical Chair

Youth Report – 2017

The previous year has been a year of transition for the youth at Holy Family. We saw our former youth coordinator leave, and since then we have been searching for a new team member to take on the role. Due to this fact, there is little to report for Youth this year. However, youth activities are still available through the Archdiocese of Regina and some of those events have spilled over to Holy Family. The following are events that continue, and can be accessed by any youth interested within Holy Family. - Holy Family continues to periodically host Search. Search is an event where young people of faith can come together to share a meal and partake in adoration. - Holy Family hosted the second Archdiocesan Christmas Variety Night. This event was done to help raise funds for the Missionaries that went to Belize to volunteer at a youth home. - MyGen Youth Rally continues to attract youth throughout the diocese. MyGen 2018 is being held March 17 and 18. - Variety Night 2018 is the spans May 25 - 28. The youth of the archdiocese is currently making preparations for another spectacular show. Last year they raised around $15,000. 2018 will be a year of new growth and exciting possibilities. If you would like to get involved, please let us know! God Bless. Responsible Parish Ministry Protocol – 2017

The Archdiocese of Regina in 2012 prepared a Protocol for Responsible Parish Ministry. This process was designed to provide protection for all people of our parish and provide documentation that we have shown due diligence in protecting the vulnerable and the assets entrusted to us. The purpose of the Protocol is:

• To respond to and protect the vulnerable members of our parishes and to protect the financial assets entrusted to us by our parishioners.

• To support parish volunteers regarding their safety, integrity and reputation. • To respond to the requirements of the insurance carriers of the Western Canadian

(Arch) dioceses.

All parishioners who volunteer for ministries in our parish are required to complete a simple Volunteer Information form. If a volunteer activity involves interaction with children and/or vulnerable people, access to funds or access to secured areas in the church, a more detailed process is involved. This includes a police record check, an interview and supplying references. All collected information is stored securely at the parish. A review of all Volunteer Forms submitted since the start of Protocol Requirements in 2012 has been completed. As of December 31st, 2017:

- 484 Volunteer forms have been completed and processed. - 314 Volunteers are still active. - 170 Volunteers have been archived as no longer active. - 108 of the active Volunteers are involved in two or more ministries.

Our volunteer numbers continue to decline, and our parish continues to grow. Volunteers for all ministries are urgently needed!!! Please consider volunteering your time as you will find it personally rewarding and you will be a Christian example to your family and your parish. Become involved in your parish. The Protocol requires that after five years those volunteers who have completed a police record check must obtain a new Record Check Report. This being the fifth year of the program those volunteers whose police checks will expire will receive a letter advising them of the procedure to update their record check report. Thanks to all, especially the office staff, who continue to be so supportive in completion of the Responsible Parish Ministry Protocol. Respectfully submitted, Ron Toogood Protocol Chair

Holy Family Quilters 10 Year Anniversary Report - 2017 Holy Family Quilters have been an active group in our parish for over ten years. In January 2008 13 women came together to consider forming a group interested in quilting. We chose Monday afternoon to gather. We invited parishioners to donate fabric and, from the one-time membership fee of $20.00, we purchased or had donated other items we needed – thread, batting, special rulers and cutters and cutting mats. Later the parish bought us two cupboards to store our supplies and we bought another. Our cupboards were soon bursting with donations and finished projects. The process of making a quilt is laborious, but fun; yet non-quilters have very little idea of the time, attention to detail and labour that goes into each quilted item. Once or twice a year we have a display and sell items. Over the years we have raised more than $25,000 with $21,000 in profits going to the parish. We have sewn many projects for charities such as Victoria’s Quilts (free quilts for people going through cancer treatment) and Transition House. A few quilts have been sent to Mexico and donated to the CWL. Fabric, a serger, a sewing machine and many notions have been gathered for Tanzania, and we recently helped prepare products for “Days for Girls”, which are sent to developing countries. We’ve sewn quilts, table toppers, place mats, napkins, wall hangings and bags of all sizes and shapes. We have made banners, repaired vestments and assisted with liturgical altar cloths. We recently did a count of all the Baptismal stoles we have made over the years – 798! But, over and above these sewing items, we have bonded as a group. We meet every Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00. About 15 women arrive each week, many bringing their sewing machines. Others spend their time pressing, sorting, or hand-stitching. In Lent we meet from 10:00 to 4:00, stopping for a shared pot of soup with the staff. The comraderie we have developed reaches well beyond Monday afternoons. We are blest to have had the opportunity to grow together in Holy Family Parish and we would warmly welcome new members at any time. Respectfully submitted, Eileen Danylczuk

Holy Family Catholic Women’s League - 2017

Holy Family CWL became a chartered organization February 11, 1980. Our membership includes 98 members, ranging in age from 18 years old to 99 years young. A ceremony is held each year honouring members with years of service pins and certificates. We meet once a month, usually on the second Tuesday of each month. Members are invited to attend all meetings, though some meetings are designated as executive meetings. We try to maintain a balance with 1/3 of our activities designated to Spiritual, 1/3 to business and 1/3 to social. Meetings usually begin with Mass. Communication to the membership is done in a variety of ways: bulletin announcements, e-mails, website, phoning tree, and bulletin board postings. After the 11:00 Mass on CWL Sunday in February, many members attended a brunch held at Luiggi’s Pasta House. For our May wind-up we held a celebration for Canada’s 150th Birthday. The hall was decorated and food representing every province was served.

Catholic Women’s League Report (continued) We have members who are willing to share their knowledge - Heather Chomos spoke at a meeting about Palliative Care and Judy Corkery spoke about the Lay Ministry Program. Many of our members volunteer on their own or on behalf of our council for several organizations in the city: the Marian Centre, Visitation House, Santa Maria, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, visiting and giving Communion to patients in hospital, and providing second language instruction to immigrants. The Holy Family Quilters, who are associated with the CWL, celebrated their 10th anniversary. Over the past 10 years, they have sewn 800 Baptismal stoles for children receiving the Sacrament of Baptism. When a member’s funeral is held at Holy Family, the members provide a CWL Honour Guard, a very impressive gesture appreciated by the family of the deceased. Our main fundraisers are the Bake Sales held twice yearly. At our November bake sale we also raffled six themed gift baskets. Members also organize and serve lunch at funerals held in the parish. These funds are distributed among our many charities. This Council also supported youth in many other ways: we made a contribution to the MyGenYouth Rally held at O’Neill High School and the St. Nicholas playground fund. A Scholarship is awarded annually to a Grade 12 student from Holy Family Parish, who is going on to post-secondary education. Madeleine Young was presented with a Scholarship Certificate and $500 from Holy Family CWL. The main charity we supported at our Christmas social was Transition House, a women’s shelter. We collected 39 purses filled with items women need and these are given to women who arrive at the shelter with very little. We also collected canned soups and vegetables for Visitation House. The Regina Regional Spring Meeting was held at Christ the King where Eileen Danylczuk was presented with the prestigious Bellelle Guerin award for her many years of dedication to the CWL at all levels. Several members attended the Diocesan Convention in Shaunavon in April. In June, the Provincial Convention was held in North Battleford. We are proud of our past president, Helene Marceau for accepting the position of Treasurer on the Provincial Council. In August, the National Convention was held in Charlottetown PEI. On May 4th, Holy Family CWL hosted the second annual 12 Hours of Prayer for Palliative Care. This opportunity for prayer was well-attended throughout the day. Urging legislators to view Palliative Care as essential has been a focus of our council and councils throughout Canada. I am honoured to serve as Holy Family CWL President for 2017-2018. I have been a member for 30 years and have served in many positions on the executive which has given me a good knowledge base. I feel blessed to have the privilege of working with the most dedicated and enthusiastic group of women one could hope to meet. I attended the official blessing of St. Nicholas School, the 50th Anniversary of Holy Trinity CWL and the 70th Anniversary of St. Cecilia CWL. I would like to take this opportunity to urge all the women of the parish to become a member of the CWL. You have a choice of being an active member (attending meetings and possibly serving on the executive) partially active (attending social activities, helping with funeral lunches, donating to bake sales) or inactive (praying for members and causes of the organization and paying your membership.) If you are wondering how to become a part of the parish community please consider a membership in the Holy Family CWL as the place to start. We encourage women of all ages and nationalities to become members. Our membership drive is held each fall, but we welcome new members at any time during the year. We encourage members to renew annually to keep our

Knights of Columbus - 2017 The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s fraternal organization committed to upholding Catholic values and supporting Catholic causes. The 140 members of Holy Family Council seek to enrich the life of Holy Family Parish through participation in the spiritual mission of the parish and in projects which promote growth in all parish members. Through our principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism we seek to show love for our neighbour and to enrich the life of our parish and the larger community. Our fundraising efforts including the annual Parish Gala, pancake breakfasts, Roughrider and Grey Cup pool sales and Shamrock sales support many organizations including Catholic Family Services, Birthright, Camp Monaghan, Catholic Civil Rights, the Catholic Health Association and the Riffel Grade Twelve Scholarship. By our participation in these activities our members give tangible expression to our faith and demonstrate our desire to help others. One of our most important activities is the support of pro-life causes. Last October members of our council participated in the annual Chain of Life. Our council has made the Hush Documentary available to Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School and provided the necessary support to have the information placed in every Regina high school. Members attend the Regina Pro-Life Fundraising Banquet. We actively seek support of petitions for pro-life statutes like Molly’s Law and Cassie’s Law. Youth activities are another area to which we direct a great deal of both financial and practical support. The “My Gen” youth rally in March brings out a number of council members to provide security at the event. Knights were involved with the continuing effort to upgrade facilities at Camp Monaghan through the construction of new cabins. Every January we operate the K of C Basketball Free Throw competition in the Catholic elementary schools associated with the parish. This year the Knights partnered with St Nicholas school parents to offer a pancake breakfast to the parish. Proceeds of the breakfast will be used to purchase playground equipment for the school. The needs of the less fortunate are a concern close to the hearts of all Knights. For a number of years, we have participated in the Coats For Kids campaign to supply warm clothing to children and adults in need of those services. Each year we assist the Salvation Army with their fundraising drive at Christmas. Knights give financial support to the Marian Centre and volunteer their time at the centre.

Knights of Columbus Report (continued) In December, the Knights sponsored an evening of prayer to commemorate the presence in a travelling icon in the parish. We participate in the spiritual life of the parish in many ways: Knights assist in many liturgical ministries of the parish including hospitality, music, Eucharistic ministers and lectors. On February 4 at K of C Sunday, Knights assisted with many mass ministries. The Knights are currently spearheading a committee to bring a crucifix to our parish. For many years parishioners have desired to have permanent crucifix in our sanctuary and plans are in progress to furnish the church with a refurbished crucifix in the near future. Of vital importance to any organization is the continuous attraction of new members. New members bring new ideas and new talents so important to the healthy growth and stability of our council. Last year Hoy Family Council sponsored an Admission Degree to introduce Knights to the first stage of the Order. Any Catholic men interested in joining us can do so by contacting any Knight in the parish. More information can also be found at www.kofc.org. The Holy Family Knights of Columbus is proud to be an active organization in the parish. We look forward to working with other groups to promote the spiritual mission of the parish and assisting in the growth of all parish members. Respectfully submitted, Jim Langen Grand Knight Holy Family Council #10797

Holy Family Parish Grounds and Property Report - 2017 Ban Pham has been the custodian for the church and property for all of 2017. During 2017 regular maintenance and up keep of both the church and rectory occurred on a monthly basis. As minor issues at either property came up they were fixed as needed. The bigger jobs were: the boiler system needed a new pump; it was replaced in September. With the new pump things have run well all winter so as to create about $5,000 in utility bill savings. The flat roof over the front entrance way was fixed to stop the leaking of water into that area. We do have some large projects that will need to be completed in the near future. The asphalt parking lot needs to be capped otherwise the base is going to deteriorate to the point where we will need to rip it all out and do it over. The cost of capping it will be about $45,000. I would say this needs to be completed in the summer of 2018. The bricked front patio area will need to be redone as the bricks have become uneven. I received a quote from our snow removal company and it was $25,000.00. We need to start to look at replacing the carpet in the main church area in the next couple of years. The ceiling in the main church could use a painting. The offices and upstairs kitchen areas could use painting as well.

Grounds and Property Report (continued) As parishioners, we are all owners of the property so I would like to thank all those people who helped keep our church building and grounds running, clean and in good shape for the parishioners in 2017. This can be a very busy place as a variety of groups that have parishioners involved in them use the facility. The continual upkeep of the church always has little projects coming up throughout the year as we try to keep the building in good condition. We hope we create a welcoming facility by having a well-run, clean building for our use. A concern that needs to be watched is ensuring that the doors are locked as groups and individuals have their own keys to the building. These groups and individuals must be responsible to make sure that all the doors are locked and lights shut off. At times we have found this has not been done, leaving us in a very vulnerable position. At the rectory, the condo corporation asked for a representative from the parish sit on the board as we have never had anyone on the board representing the rectory. I have volunteered to sit on the board and was nominated for the position of president for the upcoming year. Being on the board is a three-year commitment with positions interchangeable. We did get a coat of paint on part of the rectory before Father Tony moved in and I am hoping to finish painting the main floor this spring. Thank you to Mike Nijman for fixing the deck at the rectory. At this point I do not see any big jobs coming in 2018 at the rectory. Respectfully submitted, Shawn McCall

Finance Committee Report – 2017 The generosity of Holy Family Parish is amazing! 2017 shows donations to our General Fund, Building Fund and Collections In-Trust totaling over $510,000. At the beginning of 2017 when we looked at our year we felt we would incur a substantial deficit in our operating funds if things remained status quo. However, as I just stated, we have an amazing parish. Not only did the parishioners of Holy Family meet the 2017 budgeted goal but they surpassed that goal by $12,251. Secondly, our administrative costs were lower than anticipated. Part of this difference occurred because we budgeted for two priests for the full year and ended up with only one for the latter half of the year. We were blessed to have both Father Carlos and Father Thuy. Now with Father Tony, I am always excited to see what new initiatives he will bring. Secondly, we are currently doing business without a Pastoral Assistant or Youth Minister. We hope to hire into this position soon. In the meantime, we have terrific volunteers that have given their hands to do God’s work. We are very blessed to have each and everyone of our volunteers. We would not be the community we are without them. In 2017 we collected $48,165 in building fund collections. With an aging building we appreciate the support you give when donating to the Building Fund. We incurred a loan for the roof 2 years ago. This was a large project and the loan was over $187,000. We make monthly payments to this loan of $3,335. At the end of 2017 $64,546 remains on this loan. With regular payments we will be finished paying it off in the fall of 2019. Please see the buildings and grounds report for other past and upcoming projects. Throughout the year there are various Diocesan Collections such as Development and Peace, Needs of the Church in the Holy Land and the Bishops Annual Appeal Campaign to name a few. Thank you for your continued support to these much-needed causes. We collected $85,267 in trust. $61,291 of this amount was directed to the Bishops Annual Appeal. This is 79% of our goal which was set at $77,500 this year. Other items to note: The finance committee has nine active members – thank you for your time and dedication. There are 23 active collection counters, many count as couples and average counting once per month. Thank you for the hours of service you continue to give. We have approximately 575 regular contributors. Thank you as it is through this spirit of giving that we are able to continue our efforts to offer an amazing building to come together in for praise and worship. Holy Family Parish offers three ways to give: Envelopes/Weekly Collection Basket, Pre-Authorized Payment Plan for monthly giving from your bank account, online through canadahelps.org where you can give monthly or one-time donations Respectfully submitted: Lisa Ciarciaglini Finance Committee Chair
