Spring 90% (10/11) got 75% or higher on the KIN 739 lab practical last year (Fall 2016). 100% (3/3) got 75% or higher the year before (Fall 2015)

What was learned from the assessment results? These assessment results indicate our assessment abilities were hampered by our rate of departmental growth, lack of appropriate departmental organization, and faculty/staff changes that have occurred since our 2015 plan was laid out. We were able to garner some useful information from additional informal assessment materials such as small group interviews and an alumni survey, which gave us an understanding of how our disciplines are evolving and growing. How did the program respond to what was learned? The department has examined our previous plan and reports and had begun to implement organizational changes that will allow us to better assess our programs. We will have coordinators for each program that will be the contact points for assessment. Additionally, we are eliminating redundant programs within the department so that the assessment process is transparent and consistent.

More help placing us in a field to use our degree.

That the students are actually aware they have advisor to go to as I was not ever told until my senior year. Also to make sure the student have more resources for when they the need help in course studies.I believe it is important for the advising center to understand the goals of the student and give them advice that will help them reach their goal. An advising appointment should be more than plugging in classes to a schedule forthe student.

More shadowing/ volunteer opportunities, with activities of a student's choice.

Students should be told that faculty are happy to help even with advice where to apply for further professional schools and even with reviewing your resume/ CV. Focus on patient care / progression and application of physical examination techniques and treatment interventions.None. I had a great experience and had access to adequate resources to assist me in completing my course requirements.

Provide internship or observation experience in all students' area of interest.

Specific to Nutritional Science, talking more in depth about non-RD/RDN career choices. They were mentioned butnot talked about as much as the internship was discussed. Also, maybe bringing in a guest speaker that took the non-RD career path. Give them opportunities to see what their options are when they graduate so that when they do graduate they don't feel so lost. Maybe a kinesiology career fair

Improve academic advising and communication for internship possibilities for students

Too many students, no real goal.

First, there should be certificate programs tied to the course tracks so the students get something out of there emphasis. Right now, there are a lot of questions as to what they can do with the degree but there a few to no answers for them.

Second, the Kinesiology program has been called the academic equivalent of a puppy mill. People comment that we are producing many degrees but the quality is not up to par in terms of how some students get through. Most students are not prepared for most upper level classes in terms of academic rigor. We need to focus more on levels of quality. Quantity pays the bills and looks good but some of the students that are getting through the lower level classes are not prepared for work in the field. The program should be limited entry and filter out those that we feel could not properly represent the true quality of what the Kinesiology program does represent.Continue to support research involvement, from the undergraduate level (an undergraduate thesis) to the M.S. level, and consider adding a Ph.D. program if one is not already in place.- Bigger advising center with reliable advisors. During my undergrad, I had three different advisors in under two years. None of them knew me, my goals or could help me with campus resources. This would have been extremelyhelpful as a first-generation student.- Offer more student research opportunities, job fairs for allied health, professor lectures (similar to Barrick Lectures). Anything to show the students that you care about them. It is hard to break into career fields with this degree if graduate school is not your immediate option. - STUDENT ORIENTATION FOR THE DEPARTMENT!! Create cohesiveness with students AND faculty. Not once, was

there ever an opportunity for students to meet other professors, network with other students, discuss scholarly ideas.- Departmental scholarships would have been nice.- Cohort model to create community in the majors. Definitely hands on experience I learned the most , I learned more in labs as far as understanding the concepts better

Have a graduate degree plan . The program has open units and makes a great springboard to grad schools

More courses or opportunities for job placement/job awareness in the Kinesiology field at the BS level. Upon graduating the only options I had for a job was to go back to school to get another degree, or get a higher health science degree. I feel like the only job I was able to apply my degree to was a technician job at a Physical Therapy clinic. A technician. That doesn't seem right to me, 4 years of college for the equivalent of a certificate program that takes 9 months. There have to be other options for graduating Kinesiology students, more options, opportunities, or ways to get creative with applying the degree to a career field. I graduated over 10 years ago, so it's hard to know what is currently in place. However, greater discussion and exposure to potential career paths after the initial degree would be beneficial. I explored both Veterinary Medicineand Physical Therapy, but essentially had to investigate both and their requirements under my own direction. I understand there is now LKD, but are there additional resources in place to help students explore other careers post KNS degree?

They have since added additional resources that would have benefited students like me. I was pre-med through a KIN route, but the pre-led advising situation was not as developed as it is today. More lab opportunities would have been great as well. Have a career fair specific to KNS majors and/or discuss and educate KNS majors on what career paths they can choose with a KNS major as it is not a degree that you can use to get a a well paying entry level job. It is a great major and UNLV's program prepared me well for physical therapy school, but it seems to be a major where graduate school is required to use the skills gained in the major unless you want to be a coach or a personal trainer.

Internship requirement.

More internship opportunities, which are career experience oriented.

Graduate students with certifications needed to survive and apply in a job related area. Unfortunately a Kinesiology BS student will graduate and make the same amount of money as a high school student. Most KIN graduates I study with are in different areas due to unable to survive on the wages offered in that field orrequire certifications not provided in the UNLV curriculum. Unless the student is using it only as a stepping tool for PT, OT school; it's a waste of time and money.

Discuss long term care Minimal Data Set (MDS) in Nutrition Sciences practical curriculum.

Helping students understand their employment options post grad

Encourage professors to engage with ALL of their students.

Offee more internship opportunities for better job outlook after graduation.

Need more hands on experience and have jobs for current graduates

One thing that the advisors at UNLV can emphasize to the students of kinesiology whom are interested in a physical therapy career path is to get all A's in their prereqs. It was misleading for me that a C or better was sufficient, granted I only got Bs or better but I cannot stress enough for them to tell future DPT students to get A's.

The application process is now extremely difficult to get in and these programs are only taken the cream of the crop. I have even more complaints about the admission process of UNLV DPT program but I'll save that for their questionnaire if I ever receive one.

Continue interactive learning, presentations on fitness products, digital devices, iPad

When I was attending I was a student athlete and I didn't get much direction on what to do or how I should approach employment after graduation. If there was someone who reached out and asked what I would like to do or informed me of my options and how I should go about getting employment that would've been nice.

Professional involvement

Show more career paths that a KNS student can excel in. Massage therapy, PTA, and other health related modalities and careers weren't really mentioned. Still great career options that can lead to even bigger career options

Guidance on career paths that are not strictly for registered dietitians. It seemed like the RD route was the best way to go according to professors. However many students don't want to purse that and felt left out.
