IDENTIFY CAUSES AND DESCRIBE THE EFFECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE
In this class, you will write a question
in your notes every day. Our goal is to
be able to answer that question. Some
easy stems to use are:
“How would you…”
“How might you…”
“How could you…”
followed by the question. So today’s
question might say, “How would you
identify the causes and describe the
effects of the development of
agriculture?” That question is asking
you to describe the causes and effects
of the development of agriculture in
your own words.

SHEET
Guided Practice: Neolithic Revolution Documents
Paleolithic: hunter-gathers
Foraging: hunting, gathering
Cultivate: grow
One significant change is the shift from hunting and gathering to farming.
“Paleolithic man was a hunter; Neolithic man became a farmer…” During the
Neolithic Revolution, humans learned new ways to get food.
Neolithic Revolution
• 8,000 BCE
• Hunter-gatherers began farming for food
• Domesticated animals
• Surplus of food will lead to the development of civilizations
Neolithic Revolution: Cause and Effects (Before) Causes of the Neolithic Revolution (After) Effects of the Neolithic Revolution
• Hunting and gathering bands scattered
seeds near campsites resulting in the
growth of crops
• Climate changes that created a rise in
temperatures resulted in longer growing
seasons and drier land
• Shift from food gathering to food
producing
• Establishment of permanent settlements
(the first cities)
• Development of writing
• Development of government
• Spread of disease
Guided Practice: Summary
• In the bottom portion of your c-notes, complete a summary over the Neolithic Revolution
• Remember- the question that you are trying to answer in your summary is the question that we wrote at the beginning of class: IDENTIFY CAUSES AND DESCRIBE THE EFFECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE
• Here are some sentence stems to help you out:The causes of the development of agriculture (or the Neolithic Revolution) were…Some of the effects of the development of agriculture (or the Neolithic Revolution) were…
Fun Fact
• Russian-American author Zecharia Sitchin claimed that the Anunnaki were actually a race of extraterrestrial beings who came to Earth around 500,000 years ago in order to mine gold
• The Anunnaki created modern humans to work as their slaves
• During the “Flood of Noah,” Annunaki bases were destroyed. These had to be rebuilt and needing more humans to help in this massive effort, Anunnaki taught humans agriculture
THIS IS A CONSPIRACY THEORY. THERE IS NO
HISTORICAL EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE IDEA
THAT ALIENS CAME TO EARTH AND TAUGHT
HUMANS TO FARM. IT’S A FUN FACT ABOUT
RIVER VALLEY CIVILIZATIONS, SO I’M TELLING
YOU ABOUT IT. DON’T TELL PEOPLE THAT I
SAID THAT ALIENS TAUGHT HUMANS TO FARM.
I DIDN’T SAY THAT.
Independent Practice: Groups
• Humans began to grow food during the Neolithic Revolution. Answer the following questions:
1. Your plant will feed you and your entire family if it grows properly. What are some challenges you may face during this process? What can go wrong?
2. If your plant dies, what is your alternative? 3. Which lifestyle is better: Paleolithic or Neolithic? Why?
• Then, complete the Sequence Organizer using your notes and/or textbook
• Due at the end of class: completed notes, class work sheet (including planting questions AND sequence chart)
