Offices and power plants are usually not places where you would assume to find visual artists. The RWE Foundation, however, demonstrates that even such places may offer artists a platform for work. The Foundation’s Culture division has launched an Artist-in-Residence programme. VISIT invites artists to implement projects that are related to RWE, to energy topics and their social relevance. About VISIT The VISIT programme of the RWE Foundation promotes young artists by offering them a free space for pursuing individual design work. At the invitation of the Foundation, the selected artists develop their respective project over a period of about six months. Depending on the topic, this takes place at a German or also possibly an international location of the company. The artistic work should have an explicit reference to RWE, the topic of energy, and its social relevance. The objective of the programme is to initiate a reciprocal involvement between the company and artists. Interdisciplinary approaches and switching perspectives promote the understanding of different lines of thought and help us to learn from one another. http://www.rwe.com/web/cms/en/587332/visit-programm/ Benefits Two fellowships per year -Duration of assistance: six months -Amount of grant: € 6,000 (plus incurred travel costs, accommodations, and material costs according to individual agreement) -Payment of the production costs -Final exhibition in the RWE Corporation premises and possibly at external cooperation partners -Project documentation / exhibition catalogue The jury has selected the projects by Merlin Baum (www.merlinbaum.de) and by Stefano Cagol (www.stefanocagol.com). Die RWEStiftungWoher beziehen wir künftig unsere Energie?
Und wie gehen wir damit um? Mit diesen
Fragen hängen zahlreiche Herausforderungen
des 21. Jahrhunderts zusammen.
Antworten findet die Gesellschaft nur, wenn
sie Impulse erhält – fachliche genauso wie
kreative. RWE möchte solche Impulse auch
jenseits seines Kerngeschäfts geben. Der
Konzern hat daher die RWE Stiftung ge-
gründet, die sein gemeinnütziges Engage-
ment bündelt und mit dem Thema Energie
verknüpft.
DasProgrammMit VISIT fördert die Stiftung junge Künstler,
indem sie ihnen einen Freiraum für indi-
viduelle Gestaltung bietet. Der Bezug der
künstlerischen Arbeiten zum Themenfeld
Energie und seiner gesellschaftlichen Rele-
vanz ist dabei ausdrücklich gewünscht. Ziel
des Programms ist es, die wechselseitige
Auseinandersetzung zwischen Unterneh-
men und Kunst beziehungsweise Künst-
ler anzu stoßen. Interdisziplinarität und
Perspektiv wechsel fördern das Verständnis
für andere Denkansätze und helfen, vonein-
ander zu lernen.
Die Künstler entwickeln ihr Projekt in rund
sechs Monaten. Je nach Thema erfolgt dies
an den deutschen oder auch internationa-
len Standorten des Unternehmens.
Eine Jury sichtet die eingegangenen Be-
werbungen und wählt zwei Stipendiaten
pro Jahr aus. Sie bestand 2015 aus Dr.
Tobia Bezzola (Museum Folkwang, Essen),
Dr. Andreas Beitin (ZKM|Museum für Neue
Kunst, Karlsruhe), Mischa Kuball (Kunst-
hochschule für Medien Köln) und Sepp
Hiekisch-Picard (Kunstmuseum Bochum).
BewerbungDie RWE Stiftung fördert zeitgenössische
Positionen. Das Programm richtet sich an
Künstler aus Deutschland und dem euro-
päischen Ausland. Die Projekte sollten in
Deutschland oder in Ländern stattfinden,
in denen RWE mit Mitarbeitern vertreten
ist. Die fachspezifische künstler ische Aus-
bildung an einer Hochschule oder einer
Akademie ist wünschenswert. Für die
Bewerbung sind eine erste Ideenskizze,
Arbeitsbeispiele (nicht älter als drei Jahre)
sowie eine kurze Beschreibung der Motiva-
tion erforderlich.
Einsendeschluss ist der 31. März 2016.

The RWEFoundationHow will we source our energy in the future?
And how will it be utilised? These questions
are inextricably linked with so many of the
challenges we face this century. Society will
only succeed in finding solutions if it receives
stimuli – from experts‘ input to creative
ideas. RWE would like to inject stimuli of this
kind that go beyond its core business. This
is why the Group has established the RWE
Foundation, which pools its not-for-profit
activities and links them with energy issues.
TheProgrammeThe foundation promotes young artists with
the VISIT programme by offering them
op portunities for individual design. The
artistic work should have an explicit reference
to the subject of energy and its social rele-
vance. The objective of the programme is to
initiate a reciprocal relationship between
the company and art and the artists,
respectively. Interdisciplinary approaches and
a change of perspective promote the under-
standing of different lines of thought and
help us learn from one another.
The artists develop their respective projects
in about six months. Depending on the
theme, this can take place at the German but
also possibly at the company’s international
locations.
Merlin Baum: Kinetisches Licht-Interface
Stefano Cagol: The Body of Energy (of the Mind)
Merlin Baum: Kinetic Light- Interface
Merlin Baum focuses on the moment when man initiates some-thing, releases energy to start a machine or a mechanism. The central element of the objects that emerge from this work process is the interface. The operation of his objects by man is not only possible but it is necessary. With the kinetic light inter-face, Merlin Baum has developed a setting that requires visitors to play an active part either as individuals or as a group. They are allowed to move freely, dancing underneath the light inter-face, blowing on it or producing currents of air with the aid of a leaflet to make the installation come alive.

Stefano Cagol: The Body of Energy (of the Mind )
An intense journey through Europe and its new energy. A meta-phorical and symbolic survey /a reproduction /a signal of ener-gy. “Giving body” to energy on immaterial and invisible basis, but also in terms of its importance and presence in society. A journey made in a series of trips, a series of performances, video and photographic documentation, the production of artworks, constant diffusion of an on-the-road diary /an online map. In locations where energy of culture is at home and diffe-rent energy flows come together as one.
