project titled“Experimental investigation and ANN modeling of Al-SiC (10p) Metal Matrix Composites machining using PCD inserts (duration 3 years from 2009 to 2012).

Rs.12.00 lakhs from AICTE (MODROBS) for “Performance,Combustion and Emission Analysis of single and Multi-Cylinder CI engines fuelled with diesel and bio-diesels” (duration 3 years from 2012 to 2015).

YEAR 2012-2013: No. of university rank holders from the dept. - 8 (UG) Out of 68 UG students 55 got placed in software and core

companies. No. of industrial visits to various mechanical engineering

based companies – 07. Best project award was awarded to a final year project by

TAFE Private Limited, Chennai. Papers published by mechanical staffs: Internal Journals –

05 & Conference – 15. 13 journals for subscription amount of Rs.41,000 were

added. Totally three workshops are conducted by mechanical staff

members in various fields of mechanical engineering. Total workshops attended by the faculty -10. MoU was signed with Weston-Thomson India Limited,

Chennai and Barry-Wehmiller International Resources, Chennai.

Two faculty members publications was awarded with best paper and gold medal at international conferences on Advances in Tribology (ICAT’14) held at NIT, Calicut during 21-24 February 2014.

Six-week Technology based Entrepreneurship Development Programme (TEDP) on Welding Practice was coordinated by mechanical department faculty at SVCE.

Final year UG Mechanical students carried out 23 in house

and 27 industrial projects. CAD/CAM center was inaugurated on 29/01/2014 and it is

effectively conducting 200 Hours software training program spread over three semesters on “Computer Aided Drafting, Modeling and Analysis (CADMA)” to enhance the skill levels of students in the design field and also helps them to meet the industrial requirements and their academic projects.

Along with CTRI – Weston Thomson, department is conducting Six-Sigma green belt certification program for students in order to improve the knowledge and better equip themselves for the industry (already two batches are completed successfully).

The department has been recognized as a Research Centre by Anna University with effect from May 2009.

In April / May 2012 Examinations, we have obtained seven university ranks who CGPA ranges from 8.66 to 9.03

The project titled "Electronic Ballot Box", executed by Mr.Meiyappan, Mr.Niranjan Balaji and Mr.Mahadev Subramanian from the 2008-12 batch of Electronics and Communication Engineering, has been selected as a best project under the Innovative Student Projects Award-2012 given by Indian National Academy Of Engineering and awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000/- 90.70% students got placed till July 2014 & remaining number of students opted for higher studies.

The project ‘Creation of a Microhabitat for Butterflies’ – which is to create a butterfly garden in the College Campus, received US $ 1250 in total. This Environment Programme carries a prize of US $750 to go towards maintaining the butterfly garden at SVCE.

Departmental Achievements SVCE signed MoU with Gemini Communications Ltd - Mr. Ram Kumar, CEO Gemini Communications Limited (GCL) Chennai, along with experts from the company visited Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Sriperumbudur (SVCE) on 15th October 2012, to enhance the Industry Institute Interaction. They delivered a series of Special Lectures on “Ethical Hacking and Computer Forensics”.

IBM and SVCE have signed MoU in the year

2010 and IBM have set-up a Centre of Excellence in IT department Laboratory. Students of circuit branches are being trained in IBM Tools such as DB 2 and have been certified.

S.Sathya Narayanan and R. Santhosh Kumar of III yr IT 'B' (2010-2014) participated and coded for 18 hours in the "Windows AppFest 2012" organized by Microsoft that was held at Karnataka Trade Promotion Organization (KTPO), Bangalore on 21st September. They were part of the Guinness World Records for "Most participants in a Software Development Marathon at one location".

Santhosh Raj.M of II year IT 'B' (2011-2015) presented a paper titled "Fire Fighting Robot" at Vellore Institute of Technology University on 16th September 2012 and has won the second prize.

The Project “A Real-time Driver Fatigue Detection and Alert System based on efficient Eye-tracking “ was approved by the Tamil state council for science and technology with a grant of Rs.6000 on 13th Feb 2012. This project was proposed by the student K.Marimuthu (2008 -2012) B.Tech IT and mentored by Ms.N.Devi AP/IT. It has been exhibited in State level student Projects Seminar cum exhibition at Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology on 10 -11 August 2012 by the student.
