My work has always been focused on the empowerment of marginalized communities as has my research (global human trafficking, women and violence, racism, immigration). Also, I am the Advisor for the Asian Pacific Islander Social Work Caucus (supporting the only endowed scholarships from a student group), served on the SCI Diversity committee and have provided support to international students. Last year, I started an informal gathering of women of color who were in the first year of earning their doctorates to support their work and post-graduate goals. This past June, I co- facilitated, "Say Something: Classroom Edition" to help faculty process current issues of civil unrest. Project Coordinator Coordinate national, six site study funded by NIMH. Research is part of clinical

2014 Global 100 Award administered by the Filipino Women’s Network, an International Organization based in the United States. Recognizes the 100 “Most Influential” Filipinas Globally. Award was the only one given in the Social Justice/Social Change category.

2010 Hutto Patterson Foundation Distinguished Faculty Award administered by University of Southern California School of Social Work. Recognizes a faculty member for excellence in teaching who has demonstrated service to the university, the school, and the community.

2009 Jane Addams’ Award for Teaching Excellence administered by University of Southern California School of Social Work. Recognizes a faculty member whom the graduating students have nominated for their academic, administrative, and moral support of students.
