Notes

Angles of Elevation and Depression

Set up solve the following problems. Draw and label a figure to go with the story. Show all work.

1) Eddie Sam is 1320 feet from a television tower. He sights its top and the angle of elevation is 24 degrees.

  How tall is the tower?

2) Sally Sue, in a hot air balloon directly over a school building, sights her house. The angle of depression is 42 degrees. The house is 1 mile from the school. Find the altitude of the balloon.

4) The Chrysler Building in New York is 1046 feet tall. Mary Louise is standing a half a mile away and views the top of the building. What is the angle of elevation of the top of the building?

3) Sally Sue is on a building 180 feet high and she spots Eddie Sam on a park bench below. The angle of depression was 22 degrees. How far is the bench from the foot of the building?

6) A plane is flying at an altitude of 2100 meters. The angle of depression from the plane to the control tower is 36 degrees. Find the distance from the control tower to the plane.

5) Sally Sue is on top of a tower 150 feet tall. She spots Eddie Sam in a car below. If the angle of depression is 32 degrees, find the distance from the car to the foot of the tower.

7) The angle of elevation of the top of a tree from a point 21 meters from its foot is 48 degrees. Find the height of the tree.
