Stahl Sheaffer Enineering (S.S.E.) (2012)During the Summer of 2012, I worked with Stahl Sheaffer Engineering and Dan Jones, R.L.A., to produce a set of renderings and technical drawings of a design for the proposed improvements to a portion of Atherton Street.
I am a recent B.L.A. graduate from Penn State University, and I currently work as a design assistant for an environmental artist. I am seeking opportunities to explore my interests in environmental art, creative urban redevelopment and stormwater reuse in urban agricultural design. I am very independent and self-motivated, and I am seeking out full-time employment in a vibrant workplace with like-minded people.
Working with the Hamer Center, I produced several print publications and report booklets, as well as a design and installion of an exhibition in the Rouse Gallery, displaying some of the Hamer Center’s work from the past 10 years.
Stacy Levy (Sere Ltd.) (2012 - Present)For almost a year, I’ve had the pleasure of working as Stacy Levy’s design assistant. My experience working with her on many projects has allowed me to gain experience in digital and hand rendering, physical modeling, materials, fabrication and cost estimation.

“Stormwater management practices, shaped strategically, can complement and catalyze urban redevelopment. Leveraging Water+Plants explores the varied potential for rainwater management for a typical “zero lot line” industrial property.
Five separate but complementary strategies are proposed. Three make adaptive use of the building through 1) the transformation of the façade, 2) lightweight, cost-effective strategies for roof space, and 3) the strategic creation of rainwater courtyards within the context of adaptive reuse of the building. Two additional strategies consider the transformation of public space to support community revitalization and the effective management of rainwater resources.”

Working with Dan Jones, R.L.A., and Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, I was asked to produce a series of visualizations to be utilized at several public meetings for the State College Borough Council. The design addressed various issues, including pedestrian safety, stormwater remediation, as well as the aesthetic improvement to the district and the resulting increas for property values -- a major selling point that was instrumental in gaining approval from the community and helped move the project forward into the implimentation phase.

Despite its continual struggle with natural disasters, New Orleans remains a city rich in community and culture. This proposal for a lot in the heart of the city, near to areas that were heavily damaged during Katrina, porposes a higher purpose for the cities currently polluted canals by vegetating and repurposing them as converyance systems for a network of residental developments surrounded by stormwater treatment areas that provide water for urban agriculture.

SITE LOCATION
This design proposal for a central portion of the Philadelphia Navy Yards reimagines the site as a new, vibrant, and collaborative research campus which addresses the site’s program, future potential and issues related to the site’s current condition. As part of the design for this studio project, the economic realities and constraints of the site were included in the design process, in order to demonstrate that it would not only provide social and environmental value, but deliver a significant economic return on investment as well.

During phase one of the development, only a few of the buildings for the campus are constructed, with a priority being given to those structures framing the new masterplan’s diagonal boulevarde along with the historic buildings on the site. At this stage, the majority of the site is treated both in terms of its aesthetics as well as its pollution content, utilizing the phyoremediating capabilities of sunflowers and other bioremediating plants and trees to clean the site prior to further development.
By phase two of the design, more development occurs but phytoremediation remains a major component of this stage, particularly the production of black poplars that will be utlized as street trees throughout the district. Parking throughout the site slowly transitions from surface parking to parking structures, all of which are maintained within a comfortable walking distance.
In the third and final stage of the design, the stormwater remediation canals and public greenspaces become the main feature of the site. A wide variety of programmatic amenities are placed in such a fashion as to encourage those working in the buildings to come out and intermingle with others in the may greenspaces, creating an atmosphere ripe for collaboration between different fields of research occuring here.

Designed for Bikes
In fall of 2011, I participated in a studio conducted by professors Madis Pihlak and Ray Gastil, in coordination with Waterfront Toronto. The goal of the studio was to develop a proposal for a portion of the M.V.V.A. plan for the Don Lands, immediately adjecent to Toronto’s Pinewood Studios location.
Toronto is a city that is currently generating a great deal of discussion. The inner city is well-established and the film industry is thriving. The city’s waterfront, however, has yet to provide the amenities and access of other successful cities in similar scale and vibrancy. This apparent disconnect between the city and its waterfront is the central issue to be addressed in all aspects of design and redevelopment in the Bay Front area.
The design of the district was conceived as a bicycle-centric urban environment, offering maximum bicycle accessibility to a wide range of desirable activities and amenities. This encompasses everything from bike-in cinema to bike oriented daycares, all in immediate proximity to a new and refreshing experience at the waterfront. The bicycle is the ultimate urban artifact, connecting, localizing, and distributing the energy of the film industry with the greater city of Toronto and its waterfront. The B-Port Entertainment Hub offers a new architectural typology to the city of Toronto. Its distinct form and unique location make it an instantly recognizable symbol, as well as an urban anchor for the district, and its emerging bike culture. Proposed programs for the hub include theaters, a cafe, public art exhibitions and bike parking. A proposed extension to the streetcar lines terminates at the east end of the hub, and so the first floor of the hub serves as the arrival point for many of the planned visitors.
