With t he D iamond Jubi lee, Euro 2012 f o o t b a l l a n d T h e Olympics, 2012 is set to be a year to celebrate in Great Britain; what better way to see and hear all the action than with the latest home cinema equipment? As well as being specialists in satellite and aerial systems, One Degree West also offers the latest in state-of-the-art sound and vision technology including home cinema and home automation – both systems have moved forward tremendously over the last few years and are now more affordable than ever.

Whilst this area of home technology can be very exciting, One Degree West also understands it can be quite daunting. If you go to them you won’t be bombarded with technical speak, instead their experts will talk you through the process step-by-step, figuring out the right package for you. Their new showroom, based in Ludgershall, can demonstrate how home cinema and home automation systems can enhance your home. They can offer advice on multi room audio/video, plasma TV's and projectors and automated lighting systems, in fact anything to do with individually tailored sound and vision systems for your home.

Multi-Room Music SystemIf you are looking for a state-of-the-art Hi-Fi system how about the Sonos Multi-Room Music System? It creates multi-room audio Hi-Fi in which different rooms play the same, or different, songs simultaneously throughout the house – you can even take one of their ZonePlayers into the garden with you too! The system is controlled by the Sonos Controller, a wireless handheld remote equipped with a colour LCD screen that controls music streaming and zone selection. You can also get

software for iPhone and iPod touch, Mac and Windows computers to enable you to control the system through these devices.

To find out more about the range of services Nick and his team can offer you, give them a call on 01264 324848, or make an appointment to pop into the showroom for a demonstration.

With dark clouds still hanging over the economy, a new group of local entrepreneurs is aiming to give businesses a brighter future.

They believe the long term future of our commercial and cultural well-being as a region is dependent upon small to medium size businesses growing, employing more staff and increasing people’s disposable incomes.

With the aim of helping to support this growth, The Andover Entrepreneurs Club has been founded by Michelle Duckworth, Managing Partner of DBB solicitors, Angela Wilbraham, community manager of Inspired Community and Richard Gigg a local business entrepreneur. DBB solicitors will host the meetings at their London Street offices in Andover.

The aim of the club is to support progressive business owners who wish to overcome their immediate challenges to help their companies grow and prosper. The club is a place where business problems and challenges are shared, seeking a balanced perspective and answers to the most pressing issues.

The club meets once a month and is designed

to take members out of their business for a couple of hours to work on their business rather than in it.

Facilitator led sessions will address the problems and blockages faced on a daily basis in business, in turn giving business owners the confidence to grow prosperity for them and our community.

This is a strictly not-for-profit venture with the sole aim of helping to promote business success and boost the local economy.

DBB solicitors’ managing partner Michelle Duckworth said: “Corporate social responsibility is high on our agenda.

“The Andover Entrepreneurs Club will provide a trusted, confidential forum within which members can focus, through participative interaction, on developing their own business.

“Such transparency is key to achieving progressive, business growth and, equally as important, to securing the growth and prosperity of our community and its residents”.

Our recent article on Inspired Community about the problem with parking in Test Valley prompted a lot of discussion including some very interesting revenue figures and a response from the Test Valley Borough Council. This is the original article and if you want to see, or have your say in the discussion, go to blogs on Inspired Community and look for the article.

It’s not something I noticed particularly until I started going into Andover and Romsey frequently for meetings about Inspired Community: paying for parking is a pain!

What prompted my thoughts on this issue was getting a parking ticket a couple of weeks ago. I am not at all complaining about getting a ticket – I deserved it as I overstayed and those are the rules. What I am suggesting, however, is that the rules could be made to suit frequent visitors better.

As it is now, you have to decide as soon as you park how long you are going to stay for, and you have to have the exact change otherwise you end up overpaying.

But I have had many times when I have decided an hour is long enough for my meeting and I’ve ended up having some great conversations that are difficult to cut short (or even to look at my watch to know what time it is as it’s easy to lose track) and so I find I overstay the time on my ticket. Or on other occasions I opt to pay for more time and find I’m only half an hour so I’ve wasted money. And because I can go in a couple of times a day several times a week, having enough change is a constant problem. So I end up overpaying but not getting any more time for it.

Suggestions for Test Valley Borough Council

So if Test Valley Borough Council were ever to reconsider its approach to charging us for parking, here are some suggestions that could make it easier for frequent visitors:

- Either provide change or give us longer based on the extra we pay when we don’t have the right change

- Even better, allow us to pay when we’re ready to leave so we don’t have to guess beforehand how long we’re going to be and we can pay for what we use

- Possibly harder to implement, let us pay with a card – like an Oyster card for the London Underground – where we can top up the balance on the card and when we leave the car park it deducts the right amount

Now of course, there are always reasons why things are done a certain way which aren’t always clear if you are not involved in the decision making. But it seems logical to me that if the pricing policy is not just about revenue generation but rather about providing a service to local tax payers, finding improvements to the way we pay for parking would be a worthwhile consideration.

What are your opinions? Do you have issues with parking or do you think the system works as it is?

As a business owner it is vital that you maximise the amount of money you withdraw from your company and minimise the tax you pay on your income.I thought it would be useful this month to list a few key items that you should make sure you consider along with your usual salary and dividend arrangements.• If you use your own car or van for business

purposes then you can claim 45 pence per mile for these trips. You can claim this allowance for the first 10,000 miles and 25 pence per mile thereafter. This is a very good way to get tax free income from your business. One of the conditions of this is that you need to keep a mileage log so that you can prove your business trips if the Revenue asks questions about them.

• If you are paying out on items on behalf of your business make sure you claim these expenses. Many business owners tend to lose receipts and therefore forget to claim the expense. If the expense relates to the business you can claim it, however small. If you aren’t so good at keeping records maybe keep an envelope in the car so that when you are out and about you can just pop the receipts in, then count them up at the end of the month and claim the money back from the company.

• Due to the cost of office rental many small businesses are working from home. If this is the case it is worth considering the amount you claim from the business for use of your home. The Revenue says that you can claim £4 per week for use of your home without having receipts to prove what it costs you.

• If your spouse does not have another job but does some work for your business, maybe it’s worth considering whether to pay them a salary. They will be able to earn up to £8,105 before paying Income Tax. This will then mean you do not have to earn as much to have the same overall family income. This will obviously differ for everyone depending on their circumstances, so we would recommend that you speak to your Accountant before doing this.

Overall I would recommend to all business owners that they claim all that they are entitled to. This ensures they pay the very least amount of tax. Cooking with IanIan Wooldridge, Head Chef,

at Kimbridge Farm, near Romsey

with your Seasonal Produce Recipe

Pan-Fried Cod with Broad Beans

and PancettaMake the most of broad beans during their short season with this quick,

but sophisticated fish dish. This recipe serves four.

400 grams of podded broad beans (weight with pods approx 1.6Kg)

A little salt125 grams of pancetta, cut into strips200 grams of crème fraicheHalf a 25 gram packet of fresh dillSalt & freshly milled black pepper

Olive oil

4 cod fillets, skin-on, 125 grams each

40 grams of salted butter

Large handful of parsley, finely chopped

Firstly, blanch the podded broad beans in a pan of lightly salted boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and then plunge the beans into cold water. Larger or older (late season) broad beans will now need their membranes peeled off. Next, heat a frying pan and add the pancetta strips. There isn’t a need to add any additional fat or oil. Fry until the fat from the pancetta is rendered and it becomes crisp. Add the blanched broad beans to the pan, constantly stirring until tender. Now stir in the crème fraiche. Discard the thicker storks from the dill and chop the rest finely, then add to the pan. Season with salt and pepper and set aside. In a separate pan, heat a little olive oil. Season the cod fillets with salt and pepper and place skin-side down into the pan. Fry for approximately 3 minutes until the skin is crisp. Turn the fillets over and add the butter (10g each) and

cook for a further 2 to 3 minutes until they are cooked through, basting them with the butter as you go. The cod is cooked when it breaks easily with a fork. Depending on the size of the pan, you can do this one or more at a time. To serve, share the broad bean mixture between four plates and place the cod skin-side up on top. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley. A bowl of buttered new potatoes or sauté potatoes would be a good accompaniment.

The Estate & Letting Agent Awards are the largest and longest running awards in the estate and letting agent industry. Known in the trade as The ESTAS, the competition determines the best agents in the country through research carried out amongst customers who are asked a series of questions about the service they have received from their agent. Over 33,000 questionnaires were completed by customers during the competition.

The competition this year also recognised individual excellence by short listing members of staff based on the feedback received from their own clients.

As Simon Brown, who runs the ESTAS, explains “the ESTAS has always been, and will continue to be a team competition, but we also believe staff who have been integral to the customer service experience should be recognised. We are therefore highlighting individuals based

on the comments we have received from the thousands of customers who have completed questionnaires.”

Twenty five members of staff from agents of all different shapes were shortlisted in the category sponsored by LCA Recruitment and just 5 individuals received a Highly Commended Award.

Carole Bazzoni from Martin & Co based in London Street, Andover commented “I am absolutely delighted to have won an individual award at the ESTAS. The awards means so such because it’s my clients who have rated me not a judging panel. We pride ourselves on high levels of customer service as this award shows we must be getting it right!”

The ESTAS are organised by Awards for Business www.theestas.com

Mini Cruises 2013If you are unable to go on our Mini Cruise on the 26th October 2013,

and really want to try a short cruise or simply just need a break, then don’t worry, below are some alternative Mini sample cruises that might just suit!

The BLaCk Sea - aN aMazING CRuISe25 September 2013 - 12 night Black Sea & Greek Isles

We’re delighted to be able to offer this cruise because we get so many requests for Black Sea cruises. Everyone, it seems, wants to sail through the Bosporus. The famous strait captures the imagination of many cruisers. The cruise could also be your first opportunity to experience Celebrity Constellation since she was recently ‘Solsticized’. What’s ‘Solsticized’? Well, let’s tell you all about it. ‘Solsticizing’ began when many favourite features of Celebrity Millennium Class ships inspired them to build their world-famous Solstice Class ships. Celebrity have now come full circle and have incorporated many Solstice Class features on Celebrity Constellation. That’s ‘Solsticizing’ and the transformation has made a special ship even more special! Celebrity Constellation boasts spectacular style and ambience. Once you enter the Grand Foyer, with its stunning atrium and marble staircase, the tone is set for your cruise. From the minute you sip your favourite vodka at the ultra-cool, ice-topped Martini Bar, or savour your favourite steak in the Tuscan Grille, you’ll feel transformed as well. Sumptuous suites and staterooms with stunning new décor and flat-screen TVs, and a level of personal service that’s unobtrusive, intuitive and a delight to be on the receiving end of. This cruise is a wonderful way to travel through the heartland of the eastern Mediterranean on a wonderfully exotic and adventurous itinerary. And, of course, there’s the chance to add-on nights pre or post cruise in Istanbul, the ‘capital city’ as it has been called, of that fabled part of the world.

It’s a fact of life that Cruise In’s prices on the cruises below are hundreds of pounds cheaper than buying directly through the cruise line! Not only do they represent amazing value, the ships and itineraries are to die for. Cliff always raves about Alaska, saying it’s the best cruise he’s ever been on - quite a statement from someone who has cruised as many times as him! Alaska is truly a magical place. Every stop is different. From the wildlife, the whales, the gold town of Skagway, the totem poles in Ketchikan, the glaciers and, not forgetting, the astonishing wild and wonderful scenery. In complete contrast to Alaska, Celebrity Eclipse is cruising a Caribbean itinerary which speaks for itself - just wonderful in a completely different way! Added to this there are the breathtaking facilities, service and food on, in our opinion, the best large cruise ship in the world. Don’t miss out! You’ll have a cruise of a lifetime!

Wanting to mark the 10-year anniversary of the loss of their mum to breast cancer, local sisters Kate Bone and Emma Dowinton have chosen to run not just one but ten Race for Life races. And not content with running them by themselves, they have managed to convince about 70 friends and family members to join some of the races with them, with the aim of raising £3,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Kate and Emma’s mum, Tonia Oldacre, was well known in the Andover community as she worked at Andover’s John Hanson Community School for over 20 years, including as assistant head teacher. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. After surgery it went into remission, but in 2001 the cancer returned and had spread. Tonia died at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice in Andover in September 2002.

Kate says, “With the 10 year anniversary coming up we knew we wanted to do something big to raise money for Cancer Research UK. We’ve done the Race for Life before but we thought let’s go bigger and do ten of them. And rather than just asking people we knew for sponsorship, we thought it would be more fun to get others to do it with us and each of them could also get sponsorship. So we created Team Tonia but we never thought it would get this big”.

With sponsorship – including two main corporate sponsors Fostering Solutions (where Emma works as a social worker) and local recruitment firm Nicholas Howard – they have so far raised £2,000 of their £3,000 target. They believe more runners may yet join and more sponsorship will be raised, as the race dates - from 27th May to 27th July – get closer.

The Training is Hard

Kate and Emma are now in training and have just reached five miles, but it’s not an easy task says Emma. “The training is hard. I’m not a runner, I’m not slim, and I’m breastfeeding. But I’m determined to do it and am just approaching it in bite-sized pieces”.

As well as getting themselves around the courses, Emma and Kate now feel a responsibility for all the people who have also volunteered to take part,

some of whom are not natural runners either. To help motivate others, they have set up a Facebook page for everyone to share their training experiences. Their proud father and Tonia’s husband, Ian Oldacre, who was one of the founding members of the Andover Athletics Club and is a UK Athletics Coach, is now providing training advice to the team. The team are also inviting people to come training with them at set times. “We want everyone to get around their course and enjoy it,” says Kate.

There are matching T-Shirts for the runners, but also for husbands (‘support crew’) and even the many babies. They will have a banner at the start of each of the races so everyone knows where to meet, and you may have already spotted one of their posters around Andover and local villages.

If you want to support them, you can either join their races to help raise sponsorship, or you can donate by texting toni48 then £amount to 70070, or visit their just giving page at www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/team-tonia. You can follow their blog here www.teamtonia.blogspot.co.uk/. And you can find out more about them on their Inspired Community group, their main Facebook group, or by following them at www.twitter.com/teamtonia.

Do you recognise the primacy of positive cash flow or not? I firmly believe that it is vital for business survival and growth.

A good sales creed is “give me cash not credit”. It is also the tune that successful businesses sing. It does not matter if your gross margins make your competitors green with envy if you don’t get paid in time to keep your creditors off your back. By putting in place simple systems, many businesses can move from “just surviving” to “really thriving”.

Just because you’re making great gross profit doesn’t mean that you are putting lots of it into your pocket. Nor do great levels of gross profit mean you’re doing well. In fact it could mean that you’re going to go bust sooner than you thought! There are many examples of businesses that sold so much so fast that they couldn’t pay their monthly bills. Primarily because they weren’t paid quickly enough from their customers, but now have to pay more bills from suppliers to cover their newly increased sales.

To some this will sound obvious, to others it will come as a surprise. However, to me the only surprise is how many business owners don’t actually plan for their cash flow throughout the year. Often they don’t have a basic cash flow forecast, let alone the ability to model potential changes in their businesses. For example, can you model the effect on your cash flow as a result of:

• A change in your turnover (even a slight one)

• An increase in your prices

• A decrease in your prices

• A change in inventory levels

• Taking on a new salesperson or any new employee. Or indeed letting one go.

• A change in your receivables or your payables (how quickly you get paid from your customers or pay your suppliers)

• Reducing your overheads

• Increasing your borrowings

Do you just carry out changes and assume or worse still hope that they will be beneficial? Do you just try and increase your sales and assume that this will be good for business? Whilst it normally is good for business, surprisingly often it isn’t. It can cause a myriad of problems such as more work, increased overheads, cash flow problems, operational or production issues.

It is always better to model the changes before you carry them out to see what the impact will be on your business and, indeed, your life. The unfortunate fact is that clichés are sometimes correct. Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity and cash flow is reality.

This is a strange description that is applied when people keep small numbers of chickens or bantams, ie they are not kept in huge commercial flocks.

It is also a growing hobby with birds kept, not just in backyards but in gardens or allotments.

Some people just keep a few while others will keep a fair number. Some are kept as pets while others are kept as egg-layers or for showing or simply breeding to preserve some of the older rarer breed (there are, in fact, a considerable number of breeds and these birds come in a vast range of colours and sizes; not just chickens!)

They are relatively easy to keep free-range although they are liable to destroy your garden unless fenced away from “nicer” areas and if you have close neighbours the birds should be regularly wing-trimmed unless they are penned. They don’t roam far and will tend to return to their roosting house each night but it’s best not to allow them to enter other peoples’ gardens! Nowadays it is also possible to get some luxurious houses and pens in a range of shapes and sizes which restrict birds while allowing sufficient space that they can perform normal behaviours and also give sufficient security from dogs and foxes.

This last point is very important, especially in winter and in the spring breeding season when hungry foxes will enter gardens to attack poultry if fences are not sufficiently secure.

Feeding too is simple as layers pellets are ideal. Adding too much variety tends to lead to more problems. Remember that corn-fed chicken for eating are not supposed to live for a long time nor lay eggs. Supplementing the pellets with kitchen scraps is fine but the pellets should comprise at least 90% of the diet. If keeping ex-battery birds then the ex-battery feeds are specially supplemented to help these “tired” birds. There are also a range of excellent supplements to help these birds too.

One major “don’t” is keeping cockerels. Obviously they are needed if you plan to breed your birds but they should be penned separately or they will kill each other. If you have neighbours then I wouldn’t keep one at all; the crowing at 4am is very hard to control and, after a while, extremely annoying! Neutering is possible though very difficult, very expensive and results in a loss of all those fantastic feathers that make the rooster so attractive.

The most common diseases we see in these birds are egg peritonitis where egg yolk is laid into the

abdomen resulting in an infection, egg binding where the egg cannot be laid and Mareks Disease, a viral condition where nerves become swollen and the bird is paralysed.

One important factor when medicating these birds is that there are legal considerations in dosing birds producing eggs for human consumption. Please do not be upset when your vet advises you to throw away eggs for a period after medicating! In some cases (eg using an unlicensed drug) this advice may be that you can never eat the eggs again. It is therefore always worth discussing these issues with the vet before giving any drugs. If eating the birds’ eggs (especially if giving or selling the eggs to others) you should keep an Animal Medicines Book where all drug uses are recorded – these are easily available from vets or farmers’ merchants.

Overall they are fascinating birds to keep and it is possible to get a lot of pleasure from keeping them as well as a good source of fresh eggs! However, if you’re thinking of taking up this hobby then talk to experienced keepers and vets first and, above all, think of the neighbours.

What does Whitchurch Methodist Church have in common with Charles Dickens, Edward Lear and Augustus Pugin? Answer: A birthday. 1812 must have been a special year.

To celebrate this 200th anniversary for the Methodist Church in Whitchurch a free flower festival is being organised from 15th to 18th June 2012. Local organisations, shops and businesses are helping to celebrate ‘the church in the community’.

As well as flower displays there is an exhibition which complements a new book charting the history of Methodism in Whitchurch (available to buy £7.50 plus p&p). Commemorative mugs and notelets will also be on sale. There will be refreshments over the whole of the weekend and musical interludes: a feast for the eyes, ears, and heart. Opportunities for quiet reflection will help to make this a visit to remember.

John Wesley, founder of Methodism, came to Whitchurch on several occasions and preached both in the open air and in a ‘new house’. The congregation outgrew this new house and a church was built in 1812. It is one of the oldest Methodist chapels in the country. Inside the building there is the tombstone of John Haime,

a soldier converted after hearing John Wesley. Another special feature is a depiction in stained glass of the woman at the well.

Over the weekend the building will be lit not only by the colours in the glass but also by the beautiful floral arrangements. John Haime’s gravestone and the window will be two of the areas depicted in flowers.

The Festival is open in the church on:

What’s On…Charity Fashion Show at the LightsThe Lights Theatre was the venue chosen by Cotton Traders to host a fashion show as fundraiser for the Andover Carnival’s annual local charities, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire and The Macular Disease Society and although the turnout was somewhat on the light side the event ran very smoothly.

A wide range of quality clothing was paraded on the cat walk by the staff of Cotton Traders, volunteers from The Andover Garden Centre, the odd husband or two and they even managed to persuade yours truly to strut my stuff down the runway! The collection shown had something suitable for a range of ages or size. We were entertained during the interval by local singing talent, Daniel Farr, Jake Ward, and Jamie Walsh. Asda boosted funds by running a raffle with prizes donated by local Businesses.

So may I recommend that you pay a visit to Cotton Traders, adjacent to The Andover Garden Centre, meet their friendly team, try on something and take home a quality item that will last the test of time. They also have an online shop from which you can buy direct.

Test Valley BloomMay 30th at 10.00amTest Valley in Bloom Gardeners Market will be in Andover High Street along with the Andover Carnival team.

Wheels of AndoverJune 3rd at 10.00amIn George Yard car park there will be a collection of vintage buses and classic cars. In Andover High Street there will be a static discplay of vintage motorcycles.

The Cricketers is an old Drover’s pub, built in the 16th century. It was the last stopping point for sheep drovers taking their flocks to the Weyhill Fair, five miles to the south. It is set in the beautiful countryside of north west Hampshire, below the rolling Berkshire Downs.

Popular with locals the pub attracts many visitors for its cask beers and traditional pub food. The Cricketers Arms has a cosy atmosphere with an original inglenook fireplace in the main bar and wood burning stoves in the dining areas. It is an excellent place to meet for an informal lunch or evening out with friends.

Housed in a Scandinavian timber style chalet are ten comfortable spacious bedrooms, which are all en suite. All rooms are equipped with a television, telephone, internet access and tea and coffee making facilities.

Believe that nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come” – The Scary Guy 1998 Who is The Scary Guy?The Scary Guy is just an average person who went by the name of Earl Kenneth Kaufmann, until he changed it legally in 1988 to The scary Guy, packed up his bags and hit the road in an attempt to educate school children about the evils of bullying. His sole mission is to eliminate ‘Hate, Violence and Prejudice’. These were the first words that Scary spoke when he began his mission in 1998. Since that day, Scary has worked with over 7 million people around the world, promoting peace through the teaching of Love and Acceptance of all people. And now he’s coming to a school near you!. The Scary Guy is unique in the world of public speaking. Heavily tattooed, his very presence shocks people into an awed state of attention. What does he do?According to his website ‘The Scary Guy’ is an expert in determining the root causes of emotional experiences that manifest themselves throughout communication on an individual, group and global scale. He claims a unique capacity to reach audiences of all ages and backgrounds. There has always been bad behaviour and kids learn how to behave badly. The power to choose is a philosophy with two key principles. The first is teaching the power to choose what we see and hear, and secondly, understanding we have the power to choose what we create, accepting responsibility for all of our words and actions.

‘The Scary Guy’: Meet The Bully Who’s Anti-Bullying

So, in this age of an increasingly connected youth sector, with bullying on the increase, it’s refreshing to see someone not so stereo-typical to promote a positive message. But don’t take our word for it – here’s what some of his audience have said. “Scary Guy has changed my life for the better and I thank him with all my heart.” Craig - Year 11 Student, Hartlepool, UK. “We have had an outbreak of hugging and there is a much more caring and supportive feel about the school.” Stuart Mason – Head Teacher, Aireville School, Skipton, UK.After all we are all the same, we just live in different containers that come in all shapes, sizes and colours. We all like different music, clothes and hobbies, we have different jobs, levels of education and earn different amounts of money but we are all human, we are all the same, and as soon as everyone realises this then the world will have less hatred, less violence, less aggressive behaviour and will be a whole better place to live. The Scary Guy invites everyone to the 7-day-7-night challenge where you do not say a bad word or call someone a name other than their own for this period. Just try that? Good Luck.

Former baby portrait photographer Earl Kenneth Kaufmann changed his name to ‘The Scary Guy’, and focuses on teaching love and acceptance of all people. His mission? To eliminate hate, violence and prejudice worldwide. Noble sentiments indeed. His audiences consist of both youth and adults, within police departments, military organisations and corporations across the world including: here, the U.S., Sweden, Germany, and Luxembourg. His philosophy is that “if someone calls you a “rotten word” it’s their problem not yours, and “you choose to accept what they say.” He’s even brought his mission to schools, The Scary Guy’s programme asks questions that force audience members to look inside themselves; if people call you names and use negative/bad words towards you it is their problem and not yours as they created their negative words. Therefore, The Scary Guy teaches that everything that comes from a person is a reflection of that person and their behaviour. His unorthodox stunts include shouting abuse at people, so unsurprisingly has inevitably divided teachers into two camps: awestruck or regretful. Now, I don’t care what someone looks like, but I do care about what they say.Apparently, one Minnesota school Head was understandably staggered when experiencing Scary remarking “Oh, that’s the best sex I’ve had all day!” after shaking hands with a child. Some ‘joke’, Earl. Surely this tells you everything you need to

What’s More Scary? Him, Or That He’ll Be Teaching Our Kids?

know about the shaman that is Earl Kenneth Kaufmann.CNN reports that schools worldwide are paying as much as $6,500 a day to hire this tattooed, pierced and bearded man with no credentials to impart anti-bullying wisdom to pupils. But wait, wait. In the immortal words of the late, great stand-up comedian Frank Carson, “There’s more. There’s more.” I’ve saved the best till last. And if this weren’t so troubling, it would be funny: Ivor Evans, former head of a local housing association and Test Valley Borough councillor Phil North have seen fit to book this man to run a ‘The Scary Guy’ seminar in May. Who’s paying his fee, I wonder? And even more Scary, how much might children be paying for the experience afterwards? What do you think? Would you like this man anywhere near your child? The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office purchased devices from auction sites such as eBay and computer fairs and out of the 200 hard drives collected 11% contained personal information.

The watchdog also stated that at least 2 of the hard drives had enough information on them to enable someone to steal the former owners’ identity.

With more and more companies encouraging us to be a paperless society most people keep more information than they realise on their computer. This includes the obvious: bank statements, utility statements etc, but also the not so obvious: cookies which may fill in your passwords for you and therefore be desirable in every day computer use but are even more desirable to someone who wants to steal your identity or have access to your bank account.

Most people assume pressing ’delete’ removes

Throwing out your old computer? Deleted all your personal information? Are you sure? asks Peter Clarke from PC PAL

the data from their hard drive but this is not the case. Emptying the recycle bin is a good first step but to really be safe there are a number of other steps that need to happen.

A good computer engineer will have a ‘personal information removal package’ which includes making a back up of your information before taking other measures such as running software that will completely remove all information on your hard drive.

If your intention is to sell your computer it can then be restored to the clean ‘as new’ state by reinstalling Windows.

If you have questions regarding this or any other computer issue or you would like to book a service for your computer then contact PC PAL on 01264 931000, email [email protected] or visit www.pcpal.co.uk

Summer at WimbledonIt’s Wimbledon again, I’m feeling anxious, very fraught,

The pressure’s on again, it always is, on Centre Court,

The linesman has a guide dog and the umpire’s ninety three,

My opponent’s using gamesmanship; it’s really bothering me,

He queries almost everything; we’re stuck again at deuce,

The umpire is agreeing! What’s all this? The man’s obtuse,

So many bad decisions, and so many dodgy calls,

If he carries on, it won’t be me who needs some brand new balls,

Now it’s getting cloudy, and of course, here comes the rain,

It seems that we’ll be heading to the changing rooms again,

I’m thinking things can’t get much worse, and then, to my chagrin,

As I scuttle off the court, I hear Cliff Richard start to sing…

The design, technology and capability of Land Rover’s current model range has been reflected in the brand’s emphatic success in the 2012 Diesel Car Awards.

The Range Rover Evoque added the magazine’s ‘Best Crossover’ and overall ‘Car of the Year’ titles to its exceptional tally of 112 worldwide honours. The judges acclaimed Evoque as “stunning to look at and stunning to drive… a car that is instantly a classic”.

Car Of The Year Honour For Range Rover Evoque As Land Rover Excels In 2012 Diesel Car Awards

Ian Robertson, Diesel Car editor, said: “Already an icon, the Evoque combines stunning design and brilliant engineering to great effect.”

While Evoque claimed the ultimate prize, the Land Rover Discovery 4 demonstrated the diverse capability of Land Rover design and engineering by taking the ‘Best 4x4 Award’ for the third successive year. No challenger has yet to do better than the Land Rover, which has occupied the top spot ever since it was launched, and is described by the magazine as “everything you could possibly want in a car”.
