Andover Central Middle School Jag-Wire Newsletter February 2016 night on Friday, February 10th. If you haven’t signed up already, come out and have a fun night of painting here at ACMS from 6:00-9:00. Parent / Teacher conferences and ACMS spring book fair will be held on February 21st from 4:00-6:00. Like in the fall, we will be again hosting a $5, all you can eat pancake feed, put on by our student council. We would like to bring our ACMS families together for a delicious bite to eat and to learn about their students success at school. Dinner will be served from 3:30-6:30. Also, if you want to get your kids out of the house this weekend, the Pioneer League Basketball Tourna- ment starts on Saturday, with 8th grade girls playing in Valley Center at 9:00 and 8th grade boys playing at 11:00 here at ACMS on February 4th. We’d love to fill our bleachers with our ACMS student body! Have a great February and as always, thank you for your contin- ued support of Andover Central Middle School! February has arrived and brought another great month of celebrations and news to Andover Central Mid- dle School! We kicked off the start of our new year recognizing 7th grade math teacher Carly Bowden as a 2017 recipient of the Kansas Horizon Award. This award is given annually to 32 exemplary 1st year Kansas teachers. January also brought the crowning of the ACMS Geography Bee Champion Ryan Austin and 7th grade league championships to our 7th grade boys and girls basketball teams. The Board of Education also voted to move forward with a bond vote on May 9th which would allow for infrastructure and maintenance improvements across the district, as well as adding safety, classrooms, program and athletic expansions across the district. The good news is these expansions would not raise taxes for our Ando- ver Central Families. In May, the vote will be broken into two catego- ries, one which would not raise tax- es and accomplish the construction and addition of structures that allow for safety and growth. A second category would raise taxes and include all of the growth needs, but also add items like a district pool & additional upgrades. February will also be an action packed month and for our 8th graders, the realities of high school being right around the corner will begin to set in. Eighth grade students will begin their high school enrollment on February 14th, with the high school enrollment fair open to parents on February 15th from 6:30-8:00 at ACHS. Our 8th Graders will also be preparing to participate in our 5th annual Reality University on March 3rd where stu- dents get to experience financial management, marriage, kids, cars, and paying bills in truly unique learning scenarios! We will be send- ing out volunteer information for this large event so please be on the look out for this volunteer oppor- tunity. Slots fill up fast because it is such a unique event—I wish my school would have had it when I was an 8th grader! The 6th and 7th grade enrollment for next year will begin in early March. Students will bring home our 2017-2018 enrollment guides to begin selecting classes for next year. Even though we are starting to work on things for next year, there are still some other great things to look forward to this year, and for that matter this month.
