FromThePresidentDr. Bill Jones (also a former CIU student!)

In 1987, I enrolled at Columbia International University. CIU attracted me because of its unwavering and unchanging core beliefs.CIU affirms the Bible as the foundation for all life and learning and develops leaders to impact the nations with the message of Christ.

At CIU passion runs deep, beginning in the classroom. You’ll be taught by professors who profess a faith in Christ and value scholarship as they share their expertise and life experiences with you. Your program of study includes a major in Bible and a major in a professional degree of your choice – designed to equip you for your calling – wherever God leads you. Plus, CIU’s accreditation assures academic excellence and a degree that transfers to postgraduate education.

You’ll be surrounded by fellow students who are passionate about community. You will gain new friends and experience

new encounters with God. A CIU education will transform you spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically.

Finally, people around the world know CIU for our passion for missions. As we march further into the 21st century, the definition of missions changes as we not only cross cultures with the gospel, but spread salt and light to our own post-Christian nation. Plus CIU’s network of 17,000 alumni in 150 countries keeps us connected to all corners of the world.

I invite you to come and spend time on our campus. Visit with our students, talk to our faculty, see our passion, and experience what it’s really like to live our motto: “To Know Him and to MakeHim Known.”

They say change is good, right? Except when it comes to core values. If those change, well, then you’re in trouble. Who are you? How will you have PASSION if you don’t know what drives you?

Our Core Values are Rock Solid–literally. Each core value is etched in a stone on campus. We want to make sure we don’t drift from CIU’s solid foundation that was laid over 90 years ago. While others may build on shifting sands, our foundation is on The Rock.

You’ll learn to understand the Bible and apply its teaching to your life.

You’ll be encouraged to strive for academic excellence but also personal growth; the dynamic of the Holy Spirit to make us like Christ in daily living.

You’ll be prepared to reach your generation with the gospel and make an impact on the world – whatever your career choice may be.

You’ll be a part of a community that seeks to be marked by joyful reliance on God for material provision, victory over sin, growth in Christlikeness and fruitful ministry.

You’ll learn to live in unity with Christians of various evangelical denominations as you encourage and edify one another.

Dr. Ed SmitherProfessor of Intercultural Studies

Been there, done that:

Dr. Ed Smither worked among Muslims in France and North Africa for 14 years. In the United States, he served in youth and college ministry, in international student ministry, as a worship leader, and assisted in two church plants.

“I love to come alongside students and help them find their place in the mission of God. It’s fulfilling to journey with students as they wrestle with developing a biblical worldview that will help them to be successful in whatever God leads them to do. One reason that I love teaching intercultural studies and its related disciplines (Bible, theology, history, culture) is because I get to keep learning and growing.”

CIU professors are passionate about what they teach. Why? Because they have years of real life experience in the subjects they teach. They know what they’re talking about and they’ve actually already done the things you want to do. Their impact on you will help you make an impact on your world.

Dr. Carrie CaudillProfessor of Psychology

Been there, done that:

Dr. Carrie Caudill is a licensed professional counselor at Palmetto Counseling Associates in Columbia.

“I’m passionate about what I teach because offering a biblically-consistent psychology that is empirically validated is needed in a world of hurting and isolated individuals. Psychological disorders and emotional distress are often misunderstood or stigmatized in our culture. Seeking to understand how to truly help others from a holistic model requires a thorough understanding of a biblical worldview on humanity and a rigorous inquiry into effective treatment models while not compromising Christian truth.”

Dr. Andre Rogers has 14 years of pastoral experience, has been a part of a number of mission trips overseas and is a conference speaker for Lifeway.

“I love to explain the Scriptures to men and women who will share the Word of God to see lives transformed for the Kingdom of God. I am blessed to train future leaders and scholars with the necessary tools to change a generation. My passion for teaching shows up in every class that I teach.”

Dr. Benjamin DeanBusiness & Organizational LeadershipProgram Director

Been there, done that:

Attorney, military officer, advisor to President George H.W. Bush, for-profit management, not-for-profit management, missions agency administrator, international educator. What has he not done?

“I want students to see that our Creator has put within them unique gifts and talents, and that there is a God-infused value, dignity, and sacredness about each of the vocations and professions. In God’s eyes, there are no ‘second place’ professions. It means a person may strategically use his or her God-given abilities wherever He may open the door.”

Aug. 25, 2012. There has never been another day like it in the history of Columbia International University. For the first time since its founding in 1923, CIU was playing an intercollegiate athletic contest. The buzz on campus had been building for a year in anticipation of the soccer match between the CIU Rams and the Toccoa Falls College Eagles. It was a “Gold-Out Saturday Night” as the student body dressed in solid gold T-shirts with “Ram ‘Em Rams” emblazoned across the front. In a new tradition, a shofar was blown signaling the start of the game – a hard-fought match that was 0-0 at halftime. Then with 13 minutes remaining on the clock – the Rams scored and the crowd roared. That lone goal would stand as the only scoring in the game. When the final whistle blew, the place went nuts. The first chapter in the history of CIU athletics was written.

“I chose to play soccer at CIU because it’s a great

opportunity to get to represent Christ at the

collegiate level of soccer. Being on a team full of

brothers in Christ with the common goal of glorifying God is truly a blessing and

“I chose to run cross country because I felt that it would

be good to be committed to something challenging. But I did not expect it to teach

me so much about my faith and life in general, especially

perseverance and pushing past the stopping point. I am

so glad that I have had the opportunity to run on the

One of the things I love about CIU is that the training I received was holistic and applies to the different roles I serve in life today. CIU taught that our chief end is to glorify God in all that we do whether that is playing concerts as an artist or changing diapers as a mom.

Why Zach likes CIU

The five core values of CIU set CIU apart from other universities and are diligently sought after by the faculty, staff, and students making the atmosphere around campus very special.

CIU is led by wonderful faculty and staff members who genuinely care about the students personally and want to see them impact the nations with the message of Christ.

CIU is located on a beautiful piece of property that has awesome trails to hike, bike, run, or explore!

What Zach likes about Columbia, S.C.

Earlewood Park is seven minutes away and offers a great 18-hole disk golf course. The best burger you have ever had is at Pawleys Front Porch. With half price nights on Tuesday, and just 15 minutes from CIU, you have to go!

AnniMeet

Anni Jackson was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up as a missionary kid in Macedonia, and is majoring in Intercultural Studies.

Why Anni likes CIU

I love being at a school where I get to interact daily with other students who are passionate about knowing Christ and making Him known.

I love that I can meet with my professors and get to know them on a personal level. The professors at CIU come from so many different walks of life and it’s a blessing to learn from them both inside and outside the classroom.

CIU’s commitment to making Christ known is seen throughout everything we do and as students we’re constantly challenged to keep this as our focus wherever we go.

What Anni likes about Columbia, S.C.

I like being close to the University of South Carolina. It’s a great place for CIU students to make connections and reach out to others.

I like being close to downtown Columbia. Lots of CIU students go to Yoghut and CoolBeans.

I love how warm it is in Columbia! I even studied for my March midterms outside!
