Speaking on a right wing American TV channel, Daniel Hannan said the NHS had “made people iller” and that Britain would be “better off without the NHS.” Unfortunately he’s not the only Conservative who feels this way about the NHS. A number of Tory MPs expressed similar views about the NHS is a book published in 2005. Labour- run Department for Transport and Southern Railway plan 33% cuts in off- peak and evening peak time services to London Bri dge, and cancellation of off-peak and Sunday services to Charing Cross. This follows recent news that Conservative- run Transport for London have secretly scrapped plans for a service from Crofton Park to Victoria. Lib Dems are campaigning alongside local groups such as the Sydenham Society to fight these cuts. A local petition has already been signed by over 1,000 Lewisham residents, and has been presented to Lewisham council by local Lib Dem councillors. Local Lib Dems have also joined protests at London Bridge station. The Lib Dems now plan to take the cuts fight to Parliament, and have started a petition at http://bit. ly/1Nje7p. Tam Langley, Lib Dem prospective MP for Lewisham Deptford, says ‘It’s incredible that cuts are planned when better train services have been promised for Honor Oak and Crofton Park. Hundreds of people have already signed our petition to stop cuts in the planned Crofton Park to Victoria service. We’ll keep fighting for better train services locally wherever the threat comes from.’ And Lib Dem campaign to cut crime locally gathers pace New figures show that there were over 500 knife enabled crimes Lewisham in the last year, up 25%, while Labour locally have attacked Lib Dem plans to cut crime. The Lewisham Lib Dems campaign to cut crime locally is gathering pace. Tam Langley , Lib Dem prospective MP for Crofton Park, says ‘Following our last Focus several streets have contacted us to ask for help setting up a Neighbourhood Watch. We are delighted to help them – and will continue to offer them our support in future. My colleagues Barrie and Michele have been meeting local residents and businesses to see what more we can do to help. ‘If you would like to set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme then please do let us know – and we’ll put you in touch with the local Safer Neighbourhoods team. Equally if you know of crime or anti social behaviour hotspots locally then let us know and we’ll pass them on. ‘People locally are telling me that they are amazed that Labour is still thinks that spending hundreds of millions of pounds a year on identity cards is a better use of money than putting over 10,000 more police on the beat.’ If you’d like to join our campaign to cut crime email [email protected] Barrie Running to Help Lib Dem campaigner Barrie Hall stepped into the breach when Labour mayor Sir Steve Bullock pulled out of a local fun run. Barrie said, “When I read that Sir Steve had a problem with his Achilles heel I saw my chance. I was very pleased with coming in the top twelve, and will be donating the money I raise to a local charity for former servicemen and women and their families.” Crofton Park News by email: http://bit.ly/YJkfP Tam, Barrie and Michele are committed to helping the community fight crime Lewisham Lib Dems marching in support of the NHS More train cuts Thousand strong petition against cuts to Honor Oak services Tam, Barrie and Michele are fighting cuts to Honor Oak’s trains
