` Newsletter 01/2017 19 January 2017 Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners Welcome back from the holidays and festive season. 2017 started on a very positive note with the announcement of our 2016 Matric results and the opportunity to welcome our new learners and educators. Details of our top matric performers and results are included in this newsletter, as well as those educators who joined us. Our Grade 8s have had a busy start to their high school career. Last week was dedicated to helping them become accustomed to Rand Park; our traditions, values and the way we do things. Our Leaders have spent a great deal of time with their Grade 8 classes and I’d like to congratulate them all on a job well done. Some of our learners may be feeling a mixture of emotions ranging from excitement to anxiety at the thought of settling into a new environment or class, making friends and getting to know how things work. It’s a time for increased independence and learning to find their way; asking questions; paying attention; exercising tolerance and, above all, being kind to others. Patience is invariably rewarded - within the next two weeks, their confidence will have improved and they will have a better idea of where they fit in at Rand Park. To our parents: please remember that the Grade Tutors have been appointed to help your children become accustomed to our school - they are also your ‘go-to’ people if you need assistance and information. Allow your child time to settle into the new academic year but ensure that you know how they are progressing and where they could benefit from some additional help from you. High school is different from primary/preparatory school in many respects and a time when children can mature into self- sufficient young adults; it’s also a time where perseverance and character is strengthened. Parental involvement is crucial and can benefit the child’s psychological development and self- confidence - our school has the right people to guide you and your child on the journey and I encourage you to make the most of their knowledge and experience. It’s an exciting year and our plans are in place to ensure that we continue the tradition of offering an excellent education, complemented by cultural, sports and service programmes that complete the holistic educational experience. I wish all our parents, learners, staff and supporters every success during 2017. Thank you for choosing Rand Park High School. Yours sincerely A WILKE PRINCIPAL

GRADE 8 ORIENTATION &
INAUGURATION The first week of high school was an eventful one for our new Grade 8s. They received plenty of information about Rand Park, made new friends, participated in orientation games organised by the Leaders and a Swimming Gala. The Inauguration Ceremony was held on Friday, 13 January where we welcomed them to the Rand Park High family. Our Head Leaders passed on the 'light of knowledge' to the Grade 8s through the symbolic lighting of candles. It was a special event.
Welcome to Rand Park High School!
