• Planes:– Midline:

• Down the center of the body.

– Mid-axillary:• Vertically from armpit

to ankle.

– Mid-claviclar (2):• Through the center of

the clavicle and nipple.

Positional Terms

• Supine:– lying on back, face up.

• Prone:– lying on abdomen, face

down.

• Lateral recumbent:– lying on side also

known as the recovery position.

• Fowler’s position:– sitting on stretcher

with head elevated 45 to 60 degrees.

• Trendelenberg:– lying with head

slightly lower than the feet.

– Used to treat shock.
