Issue 2 {Unwholesome: Temptation and Tradition}

We’re always at odds with ourselves. Are we traditionalists? Are we part of

the vanguard? There is an inherent tension between past and future when

you try to live in the present. This season, our story is about reconciling

the two, about finding common ground where heritage and futurism

meet. The soft flow of crepe against the worn jersey of a t-shirt. Hand-

painted prints layered over crisp, structured poplin cargo pockets. We

refuse to believe that these two sides cannot co-exist. It is [ANATHEMA]

to who we are and what we do, to think that we have to abandon one for

the other. You don’t have to be whole in order to be complete and you

don’t have to compromise to get what you want.

Lord Byron’s got nothing on a woman armored in self-confidence. But spiked jackets, metal cuff bracelets, torn up tees, and serious platform shoes help, too. Brianna wears UNIF jacket, tee, and pants and Jeffrey Campbell shoes.

Take a note from Joan Jett’s fierce attitude and riotous spirit and do what you want to do, including donning the boldest prints you can find. If anybody doesn’t like it, then give them the cold shoulder, spikes and all. As the rock goddess once said, “We’ve never been afraid of any deviation. And we don’t really care if you think we’re strange.” Brianna wears a UNIF jacket and THVM Atelier jeans.

In a sea of rules and regulations, you can sink or swim. We definitely suggest swimming, hard and fast, against the currents of convention by mixing the refined with the rough. Brianna wears an Ann-Sofie Back shirt dress, UNIF top, and stylist’s own beanie.

9Even in the dark, your individual spirit will

shine through when your look is as effortless as it is elegant. One-piece jumpsuits and dresses offer extra versatility when layered with light tops and jackets. Brianna wears a Kai-aakmann jumpsuit, Cheap Monday blouse, and Joomi Lim cuff.

Double takes won’t be enough to digest everything if you aren’t paying attention. The devil might be in the details, but that’s exactly where you ought to be looking. Patterns, textures, and almost-not-quite-hidden little touches make designs come to life. Left: Jared wears Pointers shoes. Below, from left to right: Makr keychain, Billykirk tote, Miansai bracelet.

Athletic styling gets a much-needed update with a trim fit that works perfectly with everything from tailored shirts to vintage-washed tees. Light cotton jackets make it easy to layer up without adding too much bulk. Below: Jared wears Gitman Brothers Vintage shirt, Reigning Champ jacket, Wings + Horns shorts, and Pointer shoes.

Even the ruby red coloring of a fresh apple can’t distract from a vivid pattern when you make it the centerpiece of your look. Simple—but not boring—staples like chambray shirts and terry outerwear can set off any print in a modern, understated way. Below: Jared wears Gitman Brothers Vintage shirt, Reigning Champ vest, Wing + Horns shorts, and Miansai bracelet. Left: Roost knife.

A shirt is a shirt is a shirt is a shirt. Except when it’s not. Elaborate prints and unique cut-and-sew work make any piece of clothing so much more than the sum of its parts. Brianna wears Something Else shirt, Cheap Monday shorts, and LD Tuttle boots.

16There’s no way to blend in with the crowd

when simple, but stunning, accessories force your style to stand out. Neutral colors with rich shots of color or mixes of touchable texture make accessories easy-to-wear and remarkably special. Above: A Peace Treaty scarf. Left: Rachel Comey sandals.

Don’t assume anything. Ever. What looks like a denim jacket comes with buttery calfskin leather sleeves. A standard weave is finished with tencel jacquard details. Patterns explode all over a simple shirt. Don’t let “classic” become another word for “boring” by embracing design that pushes even a simple polo into brave new territory. Jared wears a DRKSHDW denim jacket, SILENT Damir Doma tank top, DRKSHDW shorts, Wings + Horns sneakers, and carries a SILENT Damir Doma backpack.

20Check any old expectations you had about

shirting at the door when they combine a bevy of patterns for something totally new. Mixed up textures and high-contrast colors make things even bolder and brighter. Jared wears Lifetime Collective coat, C.P. Company sweater, General Idea shirt, THVM Atelier jeans, and Cheap Monday sunglasses.

Turning down the volume doesn’t mean toning down the details. Classic American sportswear styling feels a lot fresher when you replace the collar on a classic polo with an intricate jacquard weave. Jared wears a Wings + Horns sweatshirt, polo, and pants and a Miansai bracelet.

Frankly, overloading on too many prints and details is for the birds. Small-scale patterns work like textures on dark, neutral shirts, letting you wear them with all your favorite bottoms easily. Jared wears a Gitman Brothers Vintage shirt, Wings + Horns pants, and stylist’s own shoes.

Even in the tall grass, you can’t hide graphic prints and intense pops of color. Layered underneath jackets, even the wildest patterns become smart, restrained accents. Jared wears Opening Ceremony jacket, Gitman Brothers Vintage shirt, THVM Atelier jeans, and Wings + Horns sneakers.
