Causes and symptoms of anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is caused when a person who is severely allergic to a substance, comes into contact with that substance

It involves a change to BREATHING &/ or CIRCULATIONSymptoms of anaphylaxis:

Noisy / difficult breathing

Swelling of tongue

Wheeze or persistent cough

Difficulty talking, hoarse voice

Difficulty swallowing, tightness in throat

Drop in blood pressure – drowsiness, collapse

All staff need to know the school’s First Aid policy

First aid procedures and the student’s emergency procedures plan must be followed in responding to an anaphylactic reaction
