Analysing Magazines

By Charlotte Banister.

Page 2: Analysis of magazines

The colour of the picture stands out against the white background. They have Katy Perry overlapping the masthead to show their confidence that people will recognise it as blender magazine. The image of Katy Perry in a medium long shot shows sex appeal and the seductive and secretive pose because it seems like she’s looking at you and drawing you in.

Analysis of Blender Magazine

Katy Perry is the main focus of the page and her name is the second biggest text on the page besides the masthead.

The text round the picture of Katy looks like its framing her curves because she is supposed to look seductive but still cute.

Analysis of “Q” magazine.

The image of Cheryl Cole is a close-up so you can see the detail of her face including the whiteness of her teeth against the red lipstick which links to one of the subheadings of “vampire weekend”, the colour of Cheryl's skin tone, hair and lips is the same as the fonts and masthead on the page.

She is the main focus of the page and the subtitles frame her Face.

The white font stands out against the picture and makes it look more dramatic.

The rain can link to one of her songs which includes the sadness of hiding tears in the rain.

The font is different to that of the masthead so that it stands out more.

Analysis of “Vibe” magazine.

The image of T.I. is in black and white because it accentuates the seriousness and his the feeling of being lost makes the image more clearer. The bright mast head stands out against the black and white picture and against the white background. The red text contrasts and makes it all pop.

They are the main focus of the page. And the text frames his face

The background is plain so all the text stands out against it as well the less colour used makes it look fore sophisticated.

The images work as a frame around the text so you are drawn to the middle where there isn't any pictures.

Analysing Vibe magazine contents.

The colours used are continuous throughout the whole collection of vibe magazines.

The subheadings and page numbers are bold so that they catch your attention and you can easily find what you want

There is a border to section of information about the website and what is on there so if you turn to the magazine and you want to know what is on their website this week you can easily locate it.

Analysing Q magazine contents.

Red subheadings are used to make them stand out against the white background so you know what the different sections of the magazine is and what the main headlines are because not all pages are put on the contents because they aren’t as important.

The special section is in gold to show that its amazing and a very wonderful thing that they have. The Courteeners that are on the front cover are also used on the contents page to show that they are this weeks latest news and that its all orientated around them and what’s going on with the band. It tells you how many issues have been made to show that they are proud with the accomplishment. Bold text is used to make certain text stand out and also on the page numbers are in red so that they are easy to see.

Lily Allen takes up one of the pages to show she is the main subject of the double page spread, quote font used represents Lily’s style of being quite quirky and rockish. Her name is in bold to show that its all about her. The text is normal and easy to read because its giving you information

The white background makes the image pop and the pose on her face contradicts the quote by saying that she isn't an attention seeker, the way she is standing suggests she is angry for people suggesting that she is an attention seeker.

The colour used are very much orientated with the blue and black which suggests that their target market is teenage boys. The picture looks like a basic boys bedroom with all the posters on the wall and them all just hanging out. A big bold T is used to show where the text starts. There are boxes in the layout to section the information. The font is informal to show the band and the magazines style. There is a bubble that says “NME” loves which is strange because that is a rival magazine to RADAR.
