1 AN EFFICIENT MAPPING OF INACCESSIBLE, STEEP AND UNSTABLE AREA FOR URGENT DISASTER REDUCTION PROJECT, A CASE STUDY: Mt. BAWAKARAENG CALDERA, SOUTH SULAWESI, INDONESIA Soetaat Laboratory of Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing, Faculty of Engineering, University of Gadjah Mada Grafika 2, Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta 55281, Indonesia Phone +62 0274 520226, fax +62 0274 520226 [email protected] I. ABSRACT In order to reduce the urgent disaster because of Mt Bawakaraeng Caldera wall collapse, present condition of caldera wall in detail is needed to be mapped. This caldera wall is an inaccessible and unstable, because the Caldera wall face is very steep, about 800 meters in height and more than 1000 meters of the width, and located at the top of Mt. Bawakaraeng. The height of the mountain is more than 3000 meter above sea level. The caldera wall was collapsed about ten years ago and millions cubic materials, mainly sand and rock, slide down to Jeneberang River as sedimentation. For doing so, Aerial Photo Shooting and Mapping using Digital Small Format Photography and Ultra Light Air Craft will decide to use for mapping. One of the reasons using this Ultra Light is because of this air craft can flight up and down follows the terrain variation. And as a result we will have aerial photographs with small scale variation. This small scale variation is also the result of using small format photography. The small scale variation of aerial photographs will very helpful in photogrammetry processing. Another reason is this Ultra Light needs only small football field for take off and landing.
