The Main morning we anticipated just a couple hours drive south to our destination. Eight hours later – we were still on the road and we never made it to Babylon. You see there was hostile action and many overpasses and bridges were blown. But my Commander was a resilient Warrior (he is now a three-star General). He used that day to roam the front and motivate many Soldiers and Marines who were in the thick of the fight. That day we literally made dozens of stops. Each encounter was not a long one. But when we stopped I did my best to gather Soldiers and conduct what were probably the shortest Easter Services in history. I share with you my Iraq Easter message: I would read to the Warriors from 1 Corinthians 15:2-3, “For I am delivering to you first of all that which I received; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” I would then gather the Soldiers into a Holy Huddle (careful to not get too close- April 2015

WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR
AN EASTER MESSAGE FROM PASTOR LARRY!
Volume XXI Issue 4 April 2015
(Continued on page 2)
Greetings in the Mighty Name
of Jesus! Well this is my first
article as your new Interim
Pastor. I am excited to be at
Baptist Chapel Church. I am
grateful for the support and
encouragement the staff,
deacons and all church
members have shown me and
my family. My calling is to
preach, teach and live the three
things that I know to be true:
Jesus is real!, God’s Word is
True, People are all that
matter!
Easter is almost here. We have
several very special Worship
services planned. Please do
not miss the blessing-and
please bring somebody!
One of my most memorable
Easter’s took place in the
sands of Iraq. I was sent there
to share the Good News of
Jesus Christ our Lord and
Savior to Soldiers. “My plans”
that Easter morning were to
conduct a Sunrise service near
the ruins of Babylon. We had
worked hard to plan special
music and we expected a large
crowd. God had other plans!
As our convoy set out that
usually there were no more than
one vehicle or squad)-I would
then put my arms around them
and I would pray, pray, pray!
The service rarely lasted more
than a couple minutes and then
off I would go to the next
vehicle or location.
A few years later I met a Soldier
at the gas station on Fort Bragg.
I did not remember him but he
remembered me. He gave me a
huge bear hug and said,
“Chaplain I’ll never forget that
Easter message you gave to us
in Iraq-It was the best Sermon
ever!” The Lord really taught
me something through that
experience. God will use His
Word for His Glory. He took my
plans of a spectacular Sunrise
Service Extravaganza in
Babylon and changed it to
multiple service on the
highways and byways well of
the beaten path. Our God knows
best and His Word will never
return void.
Brothers and Sisters-let us make
sure that we don’t get
complicated, too overwhelmed
or too busy this Easter season.
First things first! The Main
morning we anticipated just a

NEWS FROM OUR WMU DIRECTOR
There are always opportunities to help others. The others that we can help might be those we see most
Sundays in church; those we see when we go visit at the nursing home or hospital; those who live across
town or across the county, state, or country; those we see “begging” on street corners; those we remember
from long ago and even those we will never see or even meet. As Americans, we are blessed to live in an
area that we have freedom of religion, freedom to go and come as we please. Not everyone has this amaz-
ing freedom that we take for granted. But, do we take advantage of the opportunity that we have to help
others, in a Christ-like way? Do we give of our time, talents and even financially without wondering if
they are taking advantage of us? Do we wonder if we gave to the neediest or to someone who really does
not need our help? How do we know who truly needs our help?
“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember
the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than receive.’” Acts 20:35 NKJV
Would you miss out on a blessing from God because you wondered if they really needed the help you
could give?
Baptist Chapel has a number of on-going ministries, including helping with the Christian Food Bank of
Salemburg, saving pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, collecting prescription sun-
glasses, Health Kits for Migrant workers, Relay for Life, helping families during the holidays, collecting
items for the Agape Pregnancy Support Center and other valuable opportunities. Each year there is a
“Parade of Tables” with all donations from that day going to help a needy family or a mission opportu-
nity. All of these projects touch numerous lives in ways we may never know.
There have been scheduled a few opportunities to assemble salvation bracelets. This project helps the
Christian Farmers Outreach with an international ministry to lead the lost to our Lord. Those who partici-
pate may have put colored beads on a rawhide string that is later used to explain the plan of salvation to
someone in North Carolina, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan or any one of more than 80 countries. Imagine
that……you might have had a part in someone saying YES, I have asked Jesus into my heart. And that
someone you will never meet, how awesome is it that we can be available to help others bring the Word to
other countries. You are invited to be a part of this ministry. There will be other times that the beads will
be assembled. For more information on how the beads are used and where they go, check out: http://

The Great Commission: Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have com-
manded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Matthew 28: 19-20.
