Earth Day continues to be a momentous and unifying day every year since 1970, increasing awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment. This year, Earth Day will focus on climate action as the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day.

To deliver a better understanding of Mother Earth and the planet we live on and the current issues it is facing, we’re presenting a multitude of programming that will showcase Mother Earth at her best, and the solutions needed to keep her healthy.

You can’t have nature programming without Sir David Attenborough. In Extinction — The Facts (Thursday, April 1 at 8pm), the natural historian explores how millions of species are at risk of extinction and how this crisis of biodiversity has consequences for us all, threatening food and water security, undermining our ability to control our climate and even putting us at greater risk of pandemic diseases. Next, explore our relationship with life’s most fundamental resource — water — and how growth of civilizations and dependence on the liquid has led to a global water crisis in H2O, The Molecule that Made Us (Thursday, April 8 from 8-11pm).

Travel the world with the world’s best-known climate activist as she takes her fight to a global stage. Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change the World (Thursdays, April 29 – May 13 at 8pm) follows then-16-year-old Greta over an extraordinary year off from school and onto the front lines to save the world, meeting with world leaders from Switzerland to Poland and to the United Kingdom, and asking all of us to act to limit global warming, giving our species the best possible chance of avoiding a catastrophic future. Combining key moments in history with compelling personal stories, My Grandparents’ War takes a fascinating journey into the past to understand the extraordinary impact of World War II on the families of four British actors: Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, Harry Potter), Mark Rylance (Dunkirk, Masterpiece: Wolf Hall), Kristin Scott Thomas (Darkest Hour, The English Patient) and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman, The Great Gatsby). In the four-part series, these actors journey into their respective family histories, travelling to historic locations to retrace their grandparents’ footprints during the conflict that changed their lives forever.
