Key Words: analysis, intrinsic and extrinsic elements.
The objectives of the study were to find out the intrinsic and extrinsic elements and
the dominant elements in Jojo Moyes’ novel, Me before You. The writer used
qualitative method in this research. The sources of this data were primary data and
secondary data. In findings, the writer found that in intrinsic elements there were
theme which told about love and sacrifice and also the value of life, plot that consists
of exposition, raising action, conflict, climax, falling action and resolution that told
about how Lou change better since with Will. Next, there were 23 characters in this
novel, two as major characters and twenty one as minor characters. The setting of the
novel referred to setting of time and place that happened in 2007 and 2009, began in
England and end in Paris. Furthermore, point of view in this novel mostly used the
first person’s view but then it switched to other characters. Besides, in extrinsic
elements there were author’s life, historical background and social condition. The
writer concluded that the intrinsic elements are dominant elements in novel. The
implication of this study to the TEFL is that the values inside the novel could be used
for students to learn moral and educational values. The teacher can teach English
