at the age of 63. He was on the throne for 26 years and 8 months.
Royal Mult i farious dutiesAfter King Rama III was on the throne, he performed multifarious duties for his people and the country. As he was a devout Buddhist, he gave Dana, listened to the Dhamma (Buddhist teaching) and practiced meditation. He used to be a Royal Buddhist monk, for a short period, at the Royal temple, Wat Phra Srirattanasadsadaram. He supported Buddhism as much as he could by restor-ing the Royal temple, Wat Sutas, etc. He also ordered to be built Wat Tepthidaram, Wat Rajchanadda, Wat Chalerm Phrakeat, as well he created many Tripitaka (The Three Divisions of the Buddhist Cannon) for monks and novices to study in order to teach young people to understand the
Dhamma. He also set up the Dhamma study course from low level to high level. Apart from this he ordered the establishment of the Royal school at Wat Po in Bangkok for the first time.
In the early period of the Chakri dynasty in Rat-tanakosin capital, the first 3 kings used the same
policy in order to make Royal palace and temples as well as restoring all important buildings, and extending Bangkok capital to be wider, like Ayutthaya capital, as well as establishing many towns and cities in the region.
In the reign of King Rama III, Thailand had less conflict and finally finished the war with Burma, but other countries were still at war, such as in 1826 Chao Anuvong of Viang Chan (Laos) moved his troops to attack Thailand in many regions. King
Rama III sent his commander to fight back, one of Chao Anuvong troops controlled Nakhon Ratchasima and moved villagers to Tung-Samrid. Khun Ying Mo, the wife of the deputy governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, with those villagers, used a technique to fight Chao Anuvong soldiers and won the combat. A year later (1827) King Rama III gave her the title of “Taao Suranari”. Later the government made a monument of her in remembrance of her saving the freedom of Nakhon Ratchasima.
During 1833 -1848 Yuan (Vietnam) tried to take Cambodia, which was a colony of Thailand, but Thailand was able to save Cambodia. At this period of time, Thailand had prepared herself to be ready if any countries attacked, she created warships and reconnoitre ships, and weapons, built canals for war and commerce.
When Thailand had finished the war with

The History of Songkran: Songkran festival takes place in cities and villages across Thailand from the 13th – 15th April each year and is a water filled, fun packed national event that commemorates the important role of water in Thai social, cultural and spiritual life. Songkran is celebrated dur-ing the peak of the summer heat wave in Thailand and traditional festivities include the bathing of Buddha images carried out at temples and homes across the country
and children sprinkle water on their elders to pay respect. More modern celebrations have developed into large scale water fights from gardens and parks to busy streets and even from tuk-tuks as you make your way about. Visitors to Thailand are encouraged, and very welcome, to join in the fun with locals so if you are travelling to Thailand in April be sure to get involved and be prepared to get soaked!

Muaythai World SeriesThe 2013 Chang Cup series kicked off in style at the fantastic show venue of O2 Academy Bournemouth on March 17th. Highlighting the event was a hard hitting National Cup match between Mark Little of London and Liam Barker of Bournemouth with Barker taking the win after 5 hard hitting rounds with Liam being the sharper striker and beating Mark to the shot on majority of occasions.
There was also possibly one of the most exciting matches of the year when
Andy Turland fought Toby Bindon for the South West Area Chang Cup – from start to finish this was a back and fourth fight that had the crowd on their seats – Andy managed to pull ahead in the 3rd round with an accurate knee to the head that
put Bindon down for an 8 count. The fight continued for the last 2 rounds with Andy becoming the more composed and managing to counter amazing spin kicks form Toby.
The event showed some amazing female talent with Sarah Blewden taking the Chang Area Cup after a tactical win over the hard hitting Kryistina. WBC World Champion Denise Castle fought a great demonstration using only 1 of her Muaythai weapons in a Boxing match against World Kickboxing Champion Andree Warbrick.
Muaythai was certainly the dish of the day with a sell-out capacity for the Chang Cup and the event filmed for Sky Active Channel.

her neighbours, Thailand made contact with foreign countries in order to conduct foreign affairs and commerce. England and USA also came to Thailand for commerce. King Rama III understood how to deal with those countries in order to benefit Siam (Thailand), but sometimes the deal was not completed in full, because Thailand had to
protect her own benefit and dignity. At the same time American Christian missionaries came to spread Christianity as well as give new technology about medical science, technical works and so on for the Thai to learn, and also this was the first time that Thailand could print a book in the Thai language.
