"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."―Morpheus to Neo

“O direito ambiental não fez milagres, não aumentou a poluição e não protegeu mais a natureza, mas impediu que degradações maiores acontecessem. Isso graças ao controle pelas administrações públicas. Em alguns lugares existe mais controle, em outros não, depende do país, da região”.

Michel Prieur

We are living in a post-truth era where emotions run high and those who dare to speak the truth are persecuted. We are forced to ask ourselves more and more: firstly, what the truth is (something that is not at all clear no matter what side of the political spectrum you happen to be on). Secondly, am I brave enough to state it? (…) in this day and age writers have the responsibility again to be the prophets of yore: those who have courage to unveil the hidden truths of our human condition, to reveal where we are going wrong and how we can put ourselves right. That is what literature can do: change the world by changing the people in it. It makes us more aware of how we deceive ourselves, our society and others and sometimes it can be so influential that it makes powerful people afraid. Books were banned in the past and books are banned now: they are banned because they break people out of their moulds, making them disobedient rather than unthinkingly obedient to whatever form of societal propaganda is currently in vogue. The great works did this for their time and continue to do this for ours. In a world governed by twitter-speak and twitter-think, where nobody really pauses, really listens or really understands: in this world we need a great wordsmith more than ever. Sonia Fanucchi
