Obama Administration Moves to Block the Sale of M1 Rifles to
Law-abiding Americans
State Department intimates that these historic relics may be melted
down.
Obama Blocking Return Of Surplus M1 Garands Rifles From Korea
Gun Owners of America
Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Apparently, things are going so
well in the Middle East that the State Department now feels it can turn
its attention to banning the lawful possession of firearms by American
citizens.
In a little-noticed decision in March, the Obama administration reversed
an earlier decision and moved to block the importation of 857,470 lawful
M1 semi-automatics which were being sold by South Korea in an effort to
raise money for its military. According to Hillary Clinton’s State
Department, this action was taken because the M1′s “could potentially
be exploited… for illicit purposes.”
Even worse, a spokesman for the State Department left the impression
that the valuable historic relics could even be melted down, as Clinton’s
husband did during his administration. Suffice it to say that this is just
another reiteration of the same anti-gun political theater. And the cheers
coming from anti-gunners like Dennis Henigan of the Brady Campaign
are ample proof of that.
Possession of these guns by Americans is lawful. They are antiques of
historical interest, particularly for those who, unlike Clinton and her
husband, served this country honorably in America’s foreign wars. And
anyone wishing to acquire one would have to go through an Instant
Background Check as they would for all other firearms purchases.
If any American, going into the November elections, had any doubt that
Barack Obama and the Democratic Party leaders hate guns and have
contempt for the Second Amendment, this is proof.
Reps. John Boozman and Paul Broun are submitting a letter
to State Department Secretary Hillary Clinton — demanding
that this unlawful decision be reversed.
And we are working with several legislators to offer an amendment on
the next available legislative vehicle which would prohibit the
administration from blocking the importation – or even the destruction
– of these firearms. Please see the ACTION item and pre-written letter
below.
Have you recently renewed your GOA membership?
If you haven’t renewed your membership lately, then there’s a lot of
information that you could be missing. In our newsletters, GOA takes on
recent UN efforts to impose global gun control and has provided its
members with postcards to inundate their Senators in opposition to any
arms control treaties that would infringe upon our gun rights.
In fact, current members should be expecting another update on UN gun
control efforts that will be arriving in their mailboxes soon. We can’t
fight all our battles through email and that’s why we need you to be a
member of Gun Owners of America.
You can go to http://gunowners.org/ordergoamem.htm and join Gun
Owners of America for the cost of a box of ammunition. Get your friends
and family to sign up as well. You’ll be glad you did!
ACTION: Write your Representative and urge him or her to cosign the
Boozman/Broun letter which demands that the unlawful decision
against the M1s be reversed. You can go to the Gun Owners Legislative
Action Center at http://gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your
Representative the pre-written e-mail message below.

Dear Representative:
Please stand up for the Second Amendment in opposition to
the Obama administration’s anti-gun efforts to block the
importation of — or even destroy — over 850,000 legal,
historic M1 semi-automatic firearms.
Reps. John Boozman and Paul Broun are submitting a letter
to State Department Secretary Hillary Clinton protesting
this unlawful action.
I urge you in the strongest terms to cosign that letter with
them. You can contact either Boozman’s or Broun’s office to

GA Governor Signs Proclamation For 39Th Annual National
Hunting & Fishing Day
Come celebrate at an exciting event near you!
Georgia Department of Natural Resources
SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- In celebration of the
passion for the outdoors that you share with 64 million other Americans,
the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources
Division encourages you to get out and participate in one of the many
FREE celebrations that will be held in honor of the 2010 National
Hunting and Fishing day.
Governor Sonny Perdue recently signed a proclamation in honor of the
conservation efforts led by America’s hunters and anglers, recognizing
Saturday, Sept. 25 as NHF Day in Georgia, noting the plans underway for
a statewide celebration.
Events that will be offered in Georgia include seven kids’ fishing events
and five Outdoor Adventure Days (activities will differ at each event –
but some highlights include archery and air rifle shooting, trout fishing,
hunting dog demonstrations, wildlife programs, exhibits and more).
These events are spread out across the whole state – meaning that one is
probably near you!
In addition to these events, a FREE fishing day is offered to all Georgia
residents on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. On this day, residents do NOT
need a fishing license or a trout license to fish on any public waters in the
state including lakes, streams, ponds and public fishing areas. In
addition, residents do not need to obtain a wildlife management area

license to fish on a PFA, WMA or on Waters Creek on this day.
And if you thought the day could not get better – it just did. Georgia
State Parks and Historic Sites are offering a FREE day on Sept. 25, 2010,
which means no parking or admission fees.
CHANCE TO WIN! As part of their partnership with National Hunting
and Fishing Day, Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A. has donated an all-new
2011 Grizzly 450 with Electric Power Steering (EPS) that one lucky
outdoorsman will win. The sweepstakes is being promoted at NHF Day
events nationwide, and anyone can enter to win by simply registering
online at www.yamahaoutdoors.com/nhfday through the end of
November.
The U.S. Congress and President Richard Nixon established National
Hunting and Fishing Day 39 years ago to recognize generations of
hunters and anglers for the time and money – more than a billion dollars
each year – they donate to wildlife conservation programs. According to
the proclamation signed by Governor Perdue, conserving the state’s
natural and wildlife resources is one of the most important
responsibilities for this and future generations, and the conservation
programs supported and financed by Georgia hunters and anglers have
benefited hundreds of wildlife species, including deer, wild turkeys, bald
eagles and songbirds for all Georgians to enjoy.

3 Pro-Hunting Bills Consideredby CA GovernorSEP 10, 2010 04:29P.M.
Immediate Action Needed: 3 Pro-Hunting Bills Considered by
CA. Governor
California Outdoor Heritage Alliance
SACRAMENTO, CA –-(Ammoland.com)- The California Outdoor
Heritage Alliance (COHA) is asking California hunters, as well as our 40-
plus member organizations, to contact the Governor’s office as soon as
possible in support of three separate pieces of state legislation.
The following COHA-sponsored bills received broad bipartisan support
within the State Legislature, and are currently awaiting consideration by
Governor Schwarzenegger:
• SB 1058 (Harman) would provide accountability and transparency
over the expenditure of hunting license tag/stamp monies to help
ensure that such monies are used for game species conservation
and public hunting purposes. The bill would create a single,
consolidated fiscal account for all big game tag monies, create an
advisory committee of sportsmen’s groups to review and provide
comment on proposed expenditures of hunting license tag/stamp
monies and facilitate greater nonprofit assistance with related
conservation projects. For a sample letter visit
www.outdoorheritage.org
• AB 1254 (Berryhill) would authorize the Department of Fish and
Game to temporarily suspend, as well as seek reimbursement of, a
County’s expenditure of Fish and Game (DFG) fine monies should
DFG find that the County is improperly spending such funds on
purposes unrelated to fish and wildlife conservation. The bill also
authorizes DFG to offer incentives (e.g. special hunting
opportunities) to hunter education instructors in order to recruit
and maintain a sufficient number of instructors statewide. For a
sample letter for a sample letter visit www.outdoorheritage.org
• AB 979 (Berryhill) would keep local governments from arbitrarily
banning or restricting hunting and fishing activities. This measure

August Sees 4.6% Jump In Firearm Sales From Same Period

Buckeye Firearms Foundation
Ohio --(Ammoland.com)-
The FBI has released its National Instant Criminal Background Check
System (NICS) figures for August 2010. NSSF-adjusted figures (718,971)
show a 4.6 percent increase over August of last year (687,252).
The adjusted NICS data were derived by NSSF by subtracting out NICS
purpose-code permit checks used by several states such as Kentucky and
Utah for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW
permit databases.
Though not a direct correlation to firearms sales, the adjusted NICS data
provide a more accurate picture of current market conditions. Questions
concerning NSSF-adjusted NICS data should be directed to NSSF’s
research department at 203-426-1320 or [email protected] .
In addition to other purposes, NICS is used to check transactions of
firearms sales and transfers on new and used handguns and long guns.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources
SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- The largest, most
successful wildlife conservation program in the world, the Federal
Wildlife Restoration Program, is fueled by hunters.
Over the past 70 years, hunters nationwide have contributed more than
$6.4 billion dollars to wildlife conservation efforts. In Georgia alone,
since 1939, hunters have contributed more than $137 million for wildlife
conservation in Georgia.
“The Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Program is the most
successful wildlife conservation program in the world and
serves as a financial cornerstone to the North American
Model of Wildlife Conservation. It benefits all wildlife
species, conserves and restores habitat and helps enhance
wildlife conservation through research,” said John W.
Bowers, Wildlife Resources Division Game Management
assistant chief.
“Through this program, America’s hunters continue to
provide the most substantial source of funding for wildlife
conservation and management in the United States.”
The program was established through the Pittman-Robertson Act in
1937. Through lobbying efforts in Congress, America’s hunters created
this act as a way to fund conservation and management of the nation’s
wildlife. Wildlife Restoration funds are accumulated from excise taxes on
firearms, ammunition and archery equipment. This excise tax is levied at
the manufacturer’s level, collected by the Federal government, and
distributed to state wildlife agencies to fund wildlife conservation and
management programs. The amount of money each state agency
annually receives is determined by the number of paid hunting licenses
and the land area of the state.
The Wildlife Resources Division uses Wildlife Restoration funds for
various types of programs, including restoring habitat and improving
wildlife populations, conducting research, monitoring wildlife
populations, operating more than one million acres of wildlife
management areas that benefit a diversity of wildlife species and provide
wildlife-related recreational opportunities, providing information to
landowners on how to manage their property for various species,
conducting hunter education classes and building and maintaining
public shooting ranges.

of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division reminds all deer
hunters, including big game license holders, honorary and lifetime
license holders, hunters under 16 years of age and landowners, to obtain
a new deer harvest record for the upcoming season.
Deer harvest records are required for any person hunting deer,
regardless of age, are free of charge and available at
www.gohuntgeorgia.com or at any retail license agent.
“A deer harvest record is good only for a single hunting
season because the bag limit is a season limit,” said John W.
Bowers, assistant chief of Game Management for the Wildlife
Resources Division.
Hunters must complete a deer harvest record before moving a deer from
the site of a kill, except when participating in a wildlife management area
or national wildlife refuge hunt that requires hunters to check out
harvested deer. Hunters may not possess or use multiple big game
licenses or deer harvest records and should keep harvest records with
hunting licenses.
“We appreciate the honesty, cooperation and support from
each hunter in respecting wildlife and the conservation
tradition by following game and fish laws. We encourage
hunters to police themselves by using the anonymous Turn In
Poachers (TIP) line (1-800-241-4113) to turn in individuals
who violate these laws,” said Bowers.

Georgia Archery Deer Hunting Season Opens September 11
Georgia Department of Natural Resources
SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- Deer season is the most
popular time of the year for Georgia hunters, and this year archers get
first draw beginning Sat., Sept. 11. Last year, 107,792 archery hunters
harvested more than 54,000 deer.
Statewide archery season runs through Oct. 8, but special regulations
apply to archery-only counties and extended archery season areas.
Hunters should refer to the 2010-2011 Georgia Hunting Seasons and
Regulations guide available at www.gohuntgeorgia.com, at retail license
agents or any Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources
Division office.
Georgia is considered a top destination in the country for non-resident
hunters and continues to draw tens of thousands of hunters from across
the country each year. The state’s quality deer herd and the close to one
million available acres of public hunting land serve as the main appeal.
Georgia offers more than 90 state-operated wildlife management areas.
Many of these public lands offer specialty hunts, including primitive
weapons hunts, adult/child hunts and ladies-only hunts. Dates and
locations for these hunts are available in the 2010-2011 Georgia Hunting
Seasons and Regulations guide, and WMA maps are available at
www.gohuntgeorgia.com .
Hunters are allowed a season bag limit of ten antlerless deer and two
antlered deer (one of the two antlered deer must have a minimum of
four points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers). To pursue
deer in Georgia, hunters must have a valid hunting license, big game

Palm Pistol Completes 10,000 Round Endurance Testing
Palm Pistol
MAPLEWOOD, NJ - -(AmmoLand.com)- Endurance testing of the
Palm Pistol prototype was completed in August, 2010.
The procedure consisted of firing 10,000 standard rounds and 100 proof
loads. Every 500 rounds, the gun was completely disassembled and
subjected to wet fluorescent magnetic particle inspection (MPI) by an
ASTM certified non-destructive testing laboratory.
The five structurally critical components (barrel, latch, receiver, barrel
pivot pin and latch pivot pin) all withstood the test and passed with “no
indications found.” Findings concluded the design was robust and
structurally safe. The next task is the drop test. There were some
functional/ergonomic issues that surfaced which will be addressed in the
production model.
We have started the process of obtaining production quotes from the
various manufacturing specialties such as investment casting, wire EDM,
plastics injection molding, stamping, etc.
We do not yet have an estimate on production start date or retail cost.

The Palm Pistol is an ergonomically innovative single shot double action

Some WWII Gun Collectors Prefer Rebuilt M1917 .45
Revolvers
Gun Collecting: By John Kullman
Colt M1917 Revolver
FirearmsTruth.com
Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- The United States was the only major
combatant of WWI and WWII that issued handguns to non-
commissioned officers.
Most nations treated handguns as a symbol status to be handed out to
officers, not as a frontline battle weapon. The U.S. considered side arms
an important supplement to the trench fighting of the First World War.
The average combatant of the Great War carried a bolt-action rifle and
the use of a quick-firing pistol is easy to understand when it comes to
defending or assaulting trenches.
The standard military pistol at the time of the U.S.’s entry into WWI was
the M1911 .45 automatic. But because the country was woefully
unprepared to fight, a supplementary pistol was required that could be
more quickly manufactured. Colt redesigned its M1909 revolver and the
M1917 was born. The M1917 fired the same round as the M1911 and filled
the combat gaps that weren’t able to procure the more desirable M1911’s.
Colt produced 150,000 M1917s, with Smith & Wesson adding an
additional 153,000 M1917s to military stocks during the war.
After the war, the M1917 was retired and became part of the country’s

and refurbished. Most were cleaned and the original blued metal was
parkerized. Most retained their walnut grips but a few were given plastic
grips. The arsenal performing the refurbishing work was stamped on the
frame.
Most refurbished M1917’s were used by the Military Police and as
training weapons, but nearly 21,000 made it to the various fronts. Many
WWII collectors prefer the refurbished M1917’s to the same model used
in WWI. Evidence of parkerization, buffing and arsenal initials indicates
a refurbished pistol. After WWII, the M1917 was retired and many were
sold to civilians.

Upper Marlboro, MD --(Ammoland.com)- Rev. Kenn Blanchard hosts
a listener supported variety show for all law abiding gun owners, air-soft,
air-gun, and paintball enthusiasts. The weekly podcast is produced by
the pastor of a Christian church in Washington, DC. He is also a former
US Marine, federal police officer and firearms trainer. On his show he

Why Urban Shooter?
“It’s called the urban shooter because it is focused on people
that shoot and live in or near a city or town, but all are
welcomed.”
Blanchard believes it might be a little tougher to enjoy your freedom in a
city so his show is when you might need a laugh to keep from crying or
sing a little song to keep your spirits up. You’ll get it all here from the
activist known internationally as the Black Man With A Gun.
Blanchard has worked as an self defense activist since 1991. He has lived
in Brazil and England. He has traveled to over fifteen countries. He has
lobbied the US Congress. He has testified in the state legislatures of

Ignorance, Apathy, & Emotion Destroying America’s Gun
Rights
By Jeff Knox
Volunteer and make a difference at GunVoter.org
FirearmsCoalition.org
Manassas, VA --(Ammoland.com)- By reading this column you prove
yourself to be an exception to the rule.
You are an exception because you are doing things that most people
don’t do or are not doing yet. First off, you are reading which is
becoming exceptional all by itself, but not only are you reading, you are
reading about politics and it’s still several weeks before a major election.
On top of that, you are reading about gun politics which most
people understand is all written by dangerous radicals and
extremists.
You are an exception because you care enough about our nation to seek
out information, study issues, learn about candidates, and cast an
educated vote.
A few days after the 2008 General Election I was exploring how
Americans research before casting their votes and I discovered a
surprising phenomenon. Looking at search data from the giant Google
internet search engine to see how often people searched for key phrases,
such as “Obama + gun control” in the days leading up to the election I
found, as expected, that search traffic increased dramatically as the
election drew closer. But the surprise was that the highest number of
searches on key issues − almost double the previous day’s count − did
not occur in the days before the election, but on the day after. The data
indicated that to a significant number of Americans, the major political
question is not, “What are we going to do?” but rather, “What have we
done?”
To see twice as many searches focused on critical issues the day after the
election, compared to the day before is troubling at best. I’d like to see
Larry Sabato or some other political science professor do some serious

research into this phenomenon and give us a better idea of what it’s all
about.
Until then, I want to put the less confusing findings of my research to
work. Search traffic for politicians’ names linked to key issues shows a
very slow and steady increase leading up to the first week of September −
Labor Day. After Labor Day there is a slight increase, but not the big
bounce that intuition might suggest. The search numbers don’t actually
begin to increase significantly until the two weeks or so before the
election and then they do so dramatically (sometimes doubling day-to-
day) right up through Election Day.
What this suggests is that, while we knew that most people
don’t think about politics until after Labor Day, there appears
to be an awful lot of folks who don’t look at politics until days
or even hours before voting.
This news is both good and bad for activists wishing to impact elections.
The bad news is that much of the hard work they do leading up to
Election Day may be wasted, or at least not very economical.
The good news is that activists can have a major impact on an election
right up to the last moment.
Pro Gun Volunteers Needed
When we launched www.GunVoter.org, in March of ’08, our vision for
the candidate-focused forum site relied on a “build it and they will come”
model. We hoped that if we created the space and let people know about
it, they would flesh it out by each sharing their own candidate research
for their corner of the country. So far that model hasn’t worked out
because it seems people are more interested in learning than teaching.
Even now, with over 2000 registered users and countless thousands
more visitors to the site, most of the hard data is posted by us, and we
don’t have the staff to keep up with it all. This year’s elections are too
important to wait for the users to drive the information so I’ve begun
actively recruiting volunteers to collect and post relevant data and links.
With that solid foundation of information I hope we’ll see the interactive
component of the board take off as well. If you’re interested in
participating in this effort, (especially if you know phpBB,) or you’d just
like to see what’s going on, I encourage you to stop by the site and drop
me a message.
In the next few weeks thousands of voters will be waking up and seeking
information about the candidates. What those voters find could depend
on you. The more information there is at GunVoter.org, the more useful
it will be and the more people will find it, use it, discuss it, and add to it,
making it more useful and drawing more visitors, etc. Please help spread
the word about GunVoter.org to activists, candidates, political parties,
anyone interested in gaining or sharing pertinent information, and if
you’d like to lend a hand, let me know.
Knowledge is power only if it is shared and used. www.GunVoter.org is
an ideal forum for sharing, growing, and applying knowledge to realize
power and overcome the ignorance, apathy, and emotion that is
destroying the Republic.

U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
Columbus, OH --(Ammoland.com)- I don’t know about you, but I have
to watch the Wizard of Oz with my daughter several times each year. In
fact, it seems like I always have the song, “Lions and Tigers and Bears,
Oh My!” swirling around my head.
As I was thinking about e-mail, Facebook, YouTube, texting, blogs,
forums and Twitter, a similar tune popped in my head – “E-mail,
Facebook and Twitter…Oh My!”
I know, it’s silly and I know that all of you rough and tough outdoor guys
are going to laugh a little (or maybe a lot), about me watching the
Wizard of Oz! Come on, haven’t YOU ever had to watch it with your
kids? I promise I watch John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies too…
Anyway, who on earth knows what all these funky so-called “social
media” things are?
Well, simply put, these are new communications tools helping us all keep
up with family, friends and even co-workers. In a way, they are almost
like a “virtual sportsmen’s club.”
It seems like just yesterday folks were joining a sportsmen’s club to have
place to shoot, meet up with other hunters, anglers and shooters to talk
about what you did in the field. Some of the best memories come from
shooting the breeze with good friends and talking about the “one that got
away” or that impossible shot you pulled off. You could walk in the
clubhouse and there would be a pot of coffee brewing, deer heads on the
wall, the American flag in the corner and you’d recite the “Pledge of
Allegiance” before the meeting.
Of course, this is still what a lot of us do. Nothing will ever take the place
of good, old fashion face to face time at a local sportsmen’s haunt.
Social Media Connecting More Sportsmen
But, social media is providing us with another way to talk to each other.
Think about it, they are now making it easier than ever to post your deer
picture or the video showing how hard you fought that Largemouth Bass
on YouTube. Your friends, even the guys you met last year on that
hunting trip out west, can comment on it. You can also e-mail the
pictures to tons of friends from around the country or even text your
buddy sitting in that duck blind a few hundred yards away to check up on
how his day’s going.
While the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is still pretty “old school” on a lot of
things (phone calls and personal letters still count in our book), we’re
also working hard to get into this new world.
We have a Facebook page, a Twitter page, a YouTube page and a
CamoSpace page. Also, one of our biggest efforts to date is the Sentry
Program that through email gives you access to important information
on how to protect your hunting, fishing and trapping rights. It also lets
you easily pass it all on to lots of others.
We have a Sentry website that’s a one stop shop for things like hunting
regulations, maps and weather. There’s contests running now and then
and has a place to pin up your photos. Like I said, it’s kind of like a
“virtual sportsman club” and its all yours at NO COST. Just need to give
us a name, email, zip and phone number at
www.ussportsmen.org/beasentry.
Get involved with the group that’s keeping it legal for everyone and check
us out at all of our social sites. Be a part of our virtual sportsman club
today!
