Uses: Where trench shields are used to protect workers against cave-ins, hydrau-lic shores are used to actually apply pres-sure to trench walls to prevent cave-ins.
Efficiency Aluminum Hydraulic shores and shields are an excellent lightweight resource for working around existing utilities, supporting trench walls near structures, curbs, or sidewalks; and for pipe installations where a larger backhoe cannot be used.
Hydraulic shores are installed and removed from the surface, thus avoiding the risk of working in an unshored trench.
Hydraulic shores offer superior versatility in trenches up to 25 ft. deep and 12 ft. wide.
A cylinder extension system adds to the shores range which improves on-site adaptability when encountering excavations of varying widths.
These high strength aluminum shores are available in standard or heavy duty models and can be used to meet OSHA regulations in A, B, or C soils.

Rescue shore with Traction Tread Plate and new Positive Locking Cylinder
Positive Locking Cylinder
U-Style Swivel Socket Pad
Advantages:Time is critical in a trench rescue
and air jacks are time consuming to install safely. Air jacks are also heavy and need to be nailed to cumbersome planking or plywood inside of an already unsafe trench, putting the rescue crew at great risk of becoming trapped themselves.
Hydraulic Rescue Shores are quickly positioned and pressurized from the surface, eliminating the need for crew members to enter an unsafe trench to install shoring.
Rescue Shores feature a pivoting socket pad that swivel to support irregular trenches. Rails have traction tread plates that increase the holding grip on shoring board surface. Rescue Shores now come standard with positive locking cylinders that protects against the unlikely event of a collapsed cylinder due to loss of pressure.

Alum-A-Shield is a single wall corrugated aluminum trench shield that is designed to be light and strong. Available with static or hydraulic spreader sets, Alum-A-Shield is designed specifically for municipalities, utility workers, and contractors who use rubber-tired backhoe/loaders and small excavators for trenching.
Side cut-out doors can be added for crossing utilities, and end kits allow for three or four-sided protection.

Efficiency Production’s corrugated aluminum hydraulic end shores are ideal for adding third-sided protection to a trench when working closely to buildings or existing structures.
End Shores are equipped with end panel tubes and brackets to secure corrugated aluminum sheeting to the enclosed hydraulic cylinders. The end panel tubes can secure sheeting up to 4 ft. off the bottom of the trench to accommodate utility installation under the end panel.
End Shores are designed to work in combination with vertical hydraulic shores.

Tabulated data and soil classification
How to Use ShoresHow to Use ShoresHow to Use ShoresSoil Classification: The soil descriptions for OSHA Type A, B, and C soils are based on Appendix A to OSHA Safety requirements defined in CFR, Part 1926, Subpart P - Excavations and Trenches.
No soil is Type “A” (25 lbs. psf) if:Cohesive soil with unconfined compressive strength greater than 1.5 tsf.• It is fissured.• It is subject to vibration.• It has been previously disturbed.• It is part of a sloped, layered system
which dips into the excavation on a slope of 4 horizontal to 1 vertical [4H:1V] or greater.
• It is subject to other factors requiring classification as less stable.
Type “B” Soil (45 lbs. psf)Cohesive soil with unconfined compressive strength greater than 0.5 tsf but less than 1.5 tsf.• Granular non-cohesive soils, e.g.,
gravel, silt, silt loam, sandy loam.• Type “A” fissured or subject to
vibration.• Unstable dry rock.• It is part of a sloped, layered system
which dips into the excavation on a slope less steep than [4H:1V], but only if the material would otherwise be classified as type “B”.
Type “C-60” Soil (60/80 lbs. psf)Cohesive soils with unconfinedcompressive strength of 0.5 tsf or less.• Granular soils including gravel,
sand, and loamy sand.• Submerged soil or soil from which
water is freely seeping.• Submerged rock that is not stable.• Sloped, layered system which
slopes into an excavation at an angle of 4H:1V or steeper.
Manufacturers Tabulated Data General Informationn Efficiency Hydraulic Aluminum
Shoring System tabulated data is based on the OSHA Safety requirements defined in CFR, Part 1926, Subpart P - Excavations and Trenches.
n The Competent Person shall continually monitor the excavation for signs of deterioration such as seepage of water or flowing soil into the excavation. Changing soil conditions may require adjustments to the shoring system.
n The faces of the excavation shall be straight and near vertical. Shoring members must bear on firm soil or solid filler.
n Trenches shall be kept dry and free of water at all times.
n Once cylinders are pressurized between 750 - 1500 psi, the soil should not give and reduce the pressure within the cylinder.
n When Chudoform sheeting is used, it shall extend to the top of the excavation and to within 2 ft. of the bottom of the excavation in Type A & B soils, and to the bottom of the trench in Type C soils.
n A complete shore unit consists of one or more cylinders, two rails, fittings, and hoses.
n Efficiency offers training for the use and applications of Hydraulic Shores.
Using Vertical Shoring Systemsn Trenches exceeding 8 ft. in
length will have a minimum of three shores spaced according to the tables. In trenches shorter than 8 ft. in length, two sets of vertical shores are required at the horizontal spacing indicated in the tables.
n For trenches 5 - 6 ft. in depth, vertical shoring shall consist of a minimum of one cylinder and a set of rails. If using a single cylinder it shall be positioned no more than four feet from the bottom of the trench and shall be within 1 - 2 ft. from the top of the trench.
n For trenches 6 - 10 ft. in depth, vertical shoring shall consist of a minimum of two hydraulic cylinders and rail sets in each vertical plane.
n Thrust pressure arches from each shore fan out through trench walls and interlock with the arches of adjacent shores. Each cylinder provides a total working range thrust of 2,360 - 4,710 psi against the trench wall.
