Durable, Functional, Flexible
American Auto-Matrix has always acknowledged the importance of open systems architecture for Building Auto-mation Systems. We pioneered the concept of open protocols for building automation systems in the mid 1980’s with our Public Host Protocol™ (PHP) and Public Unitary Protocol™ (PUP) systems. AAM’s philosophy of open communication systems finally became widely accepted and specified in the industry decades later with the emergence of BACnet® and LonMark®. Today American Auto-Matrix develops products which adhere to these industry standards and continues to lead the way in the world of open architectures.
The American Auto-Matrix system architecture is built upon the notion of open protocols and providing backwards compatibility. Our controllers have a legacy of innovation and performance - a legacy that continues today. All of our products feature generation-to-generation compatibility, which means that each new product is carefully engineered to build on and function smoothly with its predecessors. This built-in non-obsolescence translates to greater economy for owners and managers of buildings and networks where our products are in use.
AAM Unitary controllers can operate stand-alone or networked together to form a complete system. From small stand-alone buildings, to multiple building networks, to enterprise wide applications, the AAM system offers the same level of durability, functionality, and flexibility wherever they are found.

The American Auto-Matrix system is able to communicate and coordinate functions among multiple and differing control sys-tems within a building or network. The AAM system can interface directly to our Auto-Flow® Laboratory & Fume Hood control system through both PUP and BACnet.
In addition, we offer more than 30 BTL (BACnet Testing Laboratory) listed Native BACnet controllers that provide an open choice. By us developing systems that not only are able to communicate with earlier Auto-Matrix legacy systems, but also accessibility to other control systems, we have the ability to provide higher cost effectiveness, increased system reliability, ease of installation along with fast, economical upgrades to building controls systems without vendor lock-in.

Auto-Flow® Lab & Fume Hood Controls
For many years, the laboratory controls engineering community has been forced to select between various control philosophies for fume hoods when choosing a product line. These include open loop controls that utilize calibrated pressure-independent Venturi valves, hood pressure schemes, and closed loop control based upon actual face velocity flow measurements.
With the Auto-Flow Lab & Fume Hood Control line of products, the choice is easy. With Auto-Flow, we provide safe and effective means for the accurate and precise control of fume hood applications through our controls and peripherals designed to meet your specification needs.
Through patented technologies, paired with Native BACnet control, installations can connect seamlessly to any American Auto-Matrix HVAC control system, as well as most BACnet compliant systems.
Installations are able to use either Sash Area or Face Velocity calculation methods. This, in combination with visible and audible multi-stage alarming from a full color touch screen display, creates a solution that offers flexibility found in no other product line.
Auto-Flow delivers solutions that encompass the necessities of all the parties involved in the Critical Environments process. This is accomplished through providing a solution that not only communicated in a widely accepted open protocol, but offers flexibility in which multiple familiar methods are available.
This, in turn, creates an environment where retrofits, new installations, and additions can be implemented without increasing the learning curve or introducing unfamiliar methods and technologies, increasing safety as well as savings.
Flexibility through proven methodologies and a widely
accepted open protocol.

The Sash Position approach represents a widely accepted method designed to control face velocity base on calculations configured directly into the controller. Face velocity is controlled by calculating the flow area based on sash position and then controlling a calibrated air valve.
Secondary air flow feedback is also possible. The Sash Position method uses polymer coated string pots, a linear airflow valve, and a differential pressure switch to regulate face velocity.

For over 30 years, American Auto-Matrix products have been installed throughout the world. Laboratories, univer-sities, hospitals, sporting arenas, and museums are among the types of facilities that rely on our controls to provide affordable, dependable, and easily maintained solutions.
Our controls were utilized at the American Museum of Natural History in order to regulate the climate for Leonardo Da Vinci’s Codex Leicester: A Mas-terpiece of Science, an exhibit which held the last privately held manuscript of Da Vinci.
We also control the temperature and humidity at their Frederick Phineas and Sandra Priest Rose Center for Earth and Space, where the Zeiss Star Projector, one of the most advanced projectors in the world, is used.
The University of Maryland uses our Auto-Flow line of Lab & Fume Hood Controls because it “allows for maximum efficiency and increased energy savings while providing precise temperature, humidity, and pressure control throughout the day for students and faculty alike.” (Engineered Systems Magazine, 2008)
