COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Hello all. The painting and repairs to the building are now complete as well as a concrete structure

needed for parking the new van. The inside painting will be completed this week. The next project is re

rocking the yard and placing the bricks around the flagpole. This work will be completed in March. We

are in the process of getting new stools for the bar area. Again, all the money needed has been donated.\

by our generous members, Auxiliary, Honor Guard, SAL and the ALR. There will be a Post hosted thank

you dinner in April for all those who have donated. Of course, it will be Italian food.

We started the fish fry last weekend and it was a huge success. We will be doing it two times per

month. They will be announced in plenty of time to get tickets. Because of the high cost of food we must

pre sell the tickets so we know how much food to buy. The last set of tickets were sold out within hours of

announcing the dinner so get them quick when they come out. Seating is limited.

See you at the Post.

God Bless,

Tony

WOW Spring is just around the corner, it has been teasing us. Time goes sooooo quickly.

We have had some Great Fun with the events gone by, looking forward to many more in the

future!

We are fortunate to have some Great Ladies as members and they always know how to

make it work. With a new president coming up Y'all will need to come check it out. :-)

Coming up:

A breakfast in March, the 22nd and one in April, the 26, we will be needing help with ticket sales

and serving.

Fiesta Thursdays on March 19th and April 16, will need to check with Irene or Shirley if

help is needed.

Ladies, mark the date of April 18th for the District Meeting being held at Post 78 in Camp

Verde. President Patty Lugo will be in attendance, keep your calendars clear.

Another reminder to save your STUFF for Mays Rummage Sale.

Thinking that should take care of it......I Hope :-D

ADJUTANT’S NOTES

As of the writing of this message, membership for 2020 is at 95%. I need less than 30 more

renewals to reach 100%. I ran an “unrenewed member list” and have around 50 or so members who need

to renew. I am calling some of these members I have phone numbers for to encourage them to renew.

Again, thank you to the 95% who did renew. This amounts to over 550 members, so you can see that Post

6 has a good membership. With the Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion (SAL), we have a Post

about 1,000 strong. Not bad, but we can still grow. If you know of a veteran who is not a member,

encourage them to join us. If you have a family member, or know of someone on active duty, the Post

will pay their membership until their military service ends. Let's get some active duty to join.

The Nominating Committee for the 2020-2021 elections has been formed. This committee

consists of Mark Contreras, Post Sgt-at-Arms; Ralph Nowakowski, 3-Year Executive Committee, and

myself. We will be asking members if they would be interested in running for an officer position for the

2020-2021 Legion year. Let one of us, or any other officer know, if you have an interest in learning more

about the Legion, and serving your Post as an officer.

If you want to learn what is going on at the Post, please try to attend a General Membership

Meeting, the 2nd Thursday of the month. These meetings will fill you in on the facts of Post happenings,

not just things you may have heard from the “rumor mill.” You will also be able to see what the officers

do, in case you want to run for one of those positions.

Until next time.

My clutch cable broke not once but twice in the same week! Thanks, Jan, for helping me the first

time and thanks, Rusty, for picking me up the second time. I hope the new cable will last 15 years like the

last one did.

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors will be proclaiming National Vietnam Veterans Day at

their March 4 meeting on Fair Street at 0900. Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Verde Valley

Celebration will be March 29 starting at Post 93 in Camp Verde. We could have breakfast at the ALR6

breakfast and then head over the mountain for this. It is a good ride. Welcome home all my brothers and

sisters from all conflicts, but this one is kind of special to me.

Don't forget to buy your tickets for the Diamondback rifle that the Honor Guard is raffling off.

CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGE

. FRIENDSHIP and The LORD

We are very close to March at this writing, and the first day of Spring being the 21st and

Resurrection Sonday being April 12th. Some events of Feb. started me thinking about friendships an how

did Jesus treat His friends. More importantly, ....how did His friends treat or relate to Him. At one point,

Peter pulled his sword (a popular "firearm" of the day) in defense of his friend Jesus when the Jewish

Temple Guard came to seize Jesus for a phony charge of blasphemy at night, in the Garden of

Gethsemane, and held an illegal trial that night before the "High" priest of Israel in the chamber of the

Sanhedrin. {The Sanhedrin were made up of Pharisees and Sadducees. When my son was young, he told

me," They were sad ,you see, because they did not believe in the resurrection." They were soon to be

witness to God the Son being raised from the dead.} Peter cut off the servant of the "High" priest's ear.

Jesus healed the man's wound, as recounted in Luke's Gospe Lk. 22:47-55.

Judas *friend of Jesus betrayed Him *(see. Matt. 26: 50) for our sake as the devil himself tried to

derail the plan of salvation. They took Jesus to the "High" priest's house with Peter, His friend,

following afar off*. Jesus told Peter ( LK.22:34) that he would deny knowing his friend, Jesus, three

times before the rooster would crow. It happened just that way and Peter went out and wept bitterly

(Lk.22:62 and Matt.26:75). Ever weep bitterly for your sins? Perhaps you may yet if you have not

already. Pretty cathartic to say the least.

Maybe the centurion, when Jesus cried out at His crucifixion, " E'-lo-i, E-lo-i, la'-ma sa-bach'-tha-

ni?", became a believer as the veil of the temple was rent top to bottom he said, " Truly this man was the

Son of God." Tearing the temple veil was an excellent symbol that shows there is now no need for an

intercessor between GOD and man. You may go to the Savior directly and not through someone with a

backwards collar, for example. Good news for you! HE still is God the Son and was in a tent of human

flesh as are we. Pilate allowed the centurian to give the body of the redeemer to Joseph of A-ri-ma-thae'-a,

man who also was waiting on the kingdom of God (Mark 15:43). This Joseph went BOLDLY to Pilate for

the body and put Him in a tomb (for a 3 day stay). Mark 15:40 reveals His friends were observing "afar

off"*. Imagine the fear they must have experienced, but, this Joseph went BOLDLY to ask for the body.

Joseph went and BOUGHT FINE LINEN (Mk.15: 46) to wrap Jesus in.

You want to see how Jesus restored Peter to FRIENDSHIP ? He wants the same relationship with

you. Read John Ch.20: and 21.

Challenge is this; will you take a few minutes to read it and embrace it? !!! Are you following afar off*

,...….or, ….at all?

He is the Lamb of God Who was crucified and rose from the dead taking our punishment upon

Himself. Yu can NEVER have a better friend than the Anointed Savior Who ascended into Heaven.

Religion can NEVER redeem sinners, but, Christ does.

HONOR / COLOR GUARD

Your Honor Guard provided Military Honors for 82 departed brothers and sisters during the

months of January and February. This higher than normal count reflects the re-reopening of the Prescott

National Cemetery this past December. For these same two months, the Color Guard participated in four

events. Our dedicated team gave over 1,500 hours of their personal time to attend these services and

ceremonies to show our respect for our veterans.

The “Guard’s” Valentine’s Day breakfast for our Unit 6 ladies was once again well received, with

some 75 meals having been served that day. We fully appreciate what these ladies do for Post 6. With

their efforts, all Post 6 Family members enjoy some great meals. Good cooking is by far not their

only asset to the Post. The Unit’s involvement, especially in their support of Girls’ State, Christmas

Families and the Vets’ Stand-Down is unmatched by other Posts in the area.

Speaking of the breakfast, I can’t thank enough my guy’s; Pat Broderick and Rich, the ‘Professor’

Trost, for their help in getting out all of the Guard’s Sunday breakfasts. As those of you who might have

been a part of helping to prepare a meal for any Post function, you know how much effort it takes. Well

here, Post 6 Honor Guard has the absolute best in the business, my wife Peg, she is indispensible.

Commander Tony has done a lot of work in getting a proper parking area for the Guard’s van. We

now have a concrete pad reserved for Daffy 2 (our van). We will soon be putting a commercial grade

canopy in place. Tony has been quite frugal in this enterprise; he has gotten some major work done

without any cost to the Post. Thanks Commander.

Post 6 Honor Guard is in good hands. Recently I have been able to attend very few services due to

my impaired vision. I’m not crying here, I’m just so proud to be a part of this group. All members of this

elite squad have done what they always do … they get the job done!

The ‘Guard’ is holding a raffle. A “Diamondback” DB815C rifle. This beauty is a .308AAC

caliber, new, never fired. The drawing will be held at 1200 hrs on Flag Day, 14 June, 2020. Tickets are

$10 each and you don’t have to be present to win.

Keep the men and women of the Honor Guard in your prayers, not everyone can do this job.
