Newington Community Primary School Ambition, Achievement, Aspiration Children in Need A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported the Children in Need day on Friday! It was a wonderful day full of spots and…beans. In true #newingtonwinner spirt, it was a pleasure to see the whole communi- ty come together to support such a wonderful cause. As a result of the hard work of Mrs Hessey and the children we raised the largest amount in Newington history - £1128, Amazing!! We know that the fabulous donaons were driven by our community’s de- sire to help the less fortunate but maybe part of the movaon was to hu- miliate me… There was far too much glee and elaon in the eyes of both parents and chil- dren when pouring a can of freezing cold beans over my head! Thank you to lile Lillie-Mai in Cosmos Class for being the only person who refused to commit the act, an extra reward token for you. I look forward to next year and showing off our generous Newington spirit once more. Triple A Radio Programme—Autumn Edion To promote our terms core value 'curiosity', the team behind 'Triple A Radio' have been conducng all sorts of enquiries, some of which have revealed some quite startling answers. The radio programme examines the events behind the 'Fire of London', and dares ask the queson 'Did it start in Gregg's bakery' (not to ruin the plot but the answer is no!). Our reporters get their hooks into 'Speak Like a Pirate Day' and invesgate what famous 'pirate sayings' actually mean. Our guest polical journalists interview local MP Craig MacKinlay and find out 'What exactly does an MP do all day?' and that one of his answers is 'Crazy'. We interview new members of staff in a nail-bing feature called 'Blast-Your-Mind' and uncover Mr Rigden's previous jobs, Mr Butler's Jusn Timberlake obsession, Miss Pull- man's love for 'Bohemian Rhapsody', Mrs Jarman's dislike for jam and Miss Sholl's preference for fighng one horse sized duck as opposed to 100 duck sized horses. Further quesons in- clude where is Mr Beech's Thought for the Month', what's happened to Mr Staple's 'Words of Wisdom', and why didn't we interview the other remaining new members of staff. Panic not all those with inquisive minds because all will be revealed in next month’s fesve edi- on. Ambition, Achievement, Aspiration

Dear Parents,

As you will have seen from recent media reports the Governors are committed to chasing the dream of Newington

becoming an all-through school. We have asked for your support in filling in an online poll to show support for the pro-

posal and within 72 hours nearly 600 people pledged their support through Facebook with only one dissenting voice.

The Governors have arranged a meeting with the leader of Kent County Council, Mr Paul Carter early in January to ex-

press our reasons and desire for the project to reach fruition. In order to support our case I am urging those who feel

strongly that this would be a good thing for our community to email Mr Carter saying why you feel it would be of ben-

efit to your child and the community as a whole. He can be contacted at [email protected]

Further to this I hope to deliver to him a petition which will demonstrate the depth of feeling in the community. I will

send out details of how you can sign the petition in the next week or so, However I would urge you to spread the word

widely and get as many people to sign it as you can

Thank you for your support for the Poppy Appeal and for Children in Need. The generosity of our community knows no bounds and I am eternally proud of your support. One further thing to ask is a small donation for the Christmas Fayre, the one time in the year when we raise money for ourselves! We have a non-uniform day on Friday for those who can provide a donation.

Gastro-entiritis We have had a bit of an epidemic of gastro-enteritis in school. This, of course, spreads rather quickly unless we all

teach the children basic hygiene rules. Would you please ensure children wash their hands frequently and thoroughly

with soap and water, particularly after using the toilet and before touching food. Don't rely on alcohol hand gels, as

they're not always effective. Together we can keep these germs at bay!

Ice Hockey Trip – Invicta Dynamos vs Bracknell Bees

On Saturday 18th November, 28 Year 6 pupils hopped on the minibus for an new adventure to Gillingham Ice rink. At

the home of the Invicta Dynamos Ice Hockey team, our pupils had the spectacular opportunity to watch the team take

on the Bracknell Bees in one of the biggest games of the season. The pupils couldn’t believe their eyes from incredible

agile skating to bone crunching tackles, we converted 28 pupils to avid fans and they couldn’t have enjoyed them-

selves anymore. It was a memorable evening that was organiseed to increase participation in sport from spectating to

participating inside and outside of school. One of the many highlights of the evening, was listening to our pupils and

staff join in with the crowd chants and fully engaging in the atmosphere created by the fans. Thank you to all those

that made it such a memorable evening for our pupils.

Club Announcements As this is such a busy term, I would like to let you know with as much notice as possible, after school clubs that are going to be affected for various Christmas activities. There will be NO clubs on the following dates: Wednesday 29th November - Christmas hoops Thursday 30th November - KS2 Disco Friday 1st December - Christmas Fayre Thursday 7th December - KS1 Disco Wednesday 13th December: Christmas Craft Fayre and Carol Concert All clubs will finish on Friday 15th December. Halloween Literacy Challenge A massive well done everyone who completed the first literacy challenge of the year. We were amazed by the hard work and fan-tastic effort that was put into completing the challenges; this made it extremely hard to pick winners. Our winners are Edith Lewis from Moonbeams, Megan Bolton in Andromeda and Owen Baxter in Gemini. These 3 Newington Winners went above and beyond to complete their challenges. Keep an eye out for our next Christmas Literacy Challenge! Maths Challenge Well done to everyone who returned their Halloween Maths Challenges at the start of the term. We had over 250 returned which is a great start to the year! Our KS1 winner was Sam Peters and our KS2 winner was Charlie Lindsay. Both children went the extra mile with their challenges, by not only practicing their times tables and number bonds daily, but by creating their own resources to help them. Look out for the Christmas Maths Challenge later on in the term, and keep up the great work by beating our record of 250! Year One Visit to the Reindeer Centre

On Tuesday the year one children visited ‘The Reindeer Centre’ as part of their IPC topic ‘’The Magic Toymaker’ The children had

an amazing time; They visited Santa, after which they wandered through a magical winter wonderland. They played in fake snow,

in addition to exploring many of the traditional toys from the past. Well done to year one for having such a fabulous time as well

as for behaving so beautifully

Tynker for Tablets – The children use this coding application in school and absolutely love the activities! Tynker's mobile app lets you learn basic programming concepts on iPads and Android-enabled tablets. Learn to code by solving puzzles Build games, stories and interactive animations Fly drones, control robots, and program connected toys Work offline without Internet access Download the App Winter clothing

Just a gentle reminder that now the weather is colder to remind your children to wear a jumper and a

coat. If you would like to ask about second hand school jumpers please speak to Alison or Emma in the

FLO room.
