The Amarillo EnterPrize Challenge
is a program of the WTAMU Enterprise Center, funded by the
Amarillo
Economic Development Corporation, designed to help
entrepreneurs
expand an existing business or launch a new business. Everyone
who
participates gains a better understanding of how to develop and
follow
a realistic business plan and qualifying entrants can request a
share of
$500,000 in capital funding grants. Through coaching and
consultation,
the WTAMU Enterprise Center guides entrepreneurs through the
funding
process.

is designed to assist entrepreneurs in launching a new business
or expanding an
existing one by preparing them for outside investment. Everyone
who participates
gains a better understanding of how to prepare their business
for investment.
Qualifying primary industry businesses can request a share of
$500,000 in capital
funding.
Amarillo EnterPrize Challenge awards are grants, not loans, and
they do not have to
be paid back. The money can be used for any purpose, as long as
it stays within the
business, and is justified by the business plan.
Through the Amarillo EnterPrize Challenge entrepreneurs
proposing to establish
or expand a basic business may request up to $100,000 in
funding. Each
request is to be submitted as part of a qualified, bankable
business plan.
The maximum amount that can be awarded to any one business is
$100,000
and the minimum award request is $1,000. Each entrant must
request a specific
amount of funding and fully justify that request. The judges
will have the discretion to
award more or less than the amount requested. However, the grant
must be specific,
itemized and justified by the business plan.
Five impartial judges, who are not affiliated with the Amarillo
Economic Development
Corporation or the West Texas A&M University Enterprise
Center, will evaluate all
business plans. The judges will select finalists and finalists
will make an investment
pitch and be interviewed by the judges. The judges will select
the award recipients,
and the Amarillo EDC will present the awards at the Amarillo
EnterPrize Challenge
Award Ceremony in April.
