What is Alternative Education?Alternative education is a temporary placement to assist students in returning successfully to their home school. Adelphoi provides behavior counseling, social skills and academic instruction for students in grades 6-12. Special education services are provided at each school and Adelphoi accepts special education students who need a 45-day placement.

The academic instruction is presented in three formats: traditional classroom instruction, on-line instruction and independent study for credit recovery. Any combi-nation can be offered to a student based upon approv-al by the school district. The education program is in session 180 days, 5.5 instructional hours daily and 2.5 hours of counseling each week.

The credit recovery option is called Your Education Suc-cess (YES). The YES program assists students to recov-er credits in order to graduate with their cohort class. Districts using the YES program have a decrease in the number of reported drop outs and an increase in the number of students graduating with their cohort class.

“When I fell behind at my home school I was afforded the opportunity to attend the Y.E.S. program… I now can attend Slippery Rock University on schedule.” Student, 2011-2012

“I was able to move quicker with the subjects I was good at, and get one-on-one help with the ones I strug-gled. I plan to attend Butler CCC for dietitian through the Adelphoi Promise.” Student, 2012-2013

“The Y.E.S. Program operates on the educational belief that ‘all students can succeed’ and offers a second chance to those with willingness and commitment to work hard academically. The student who gains a posi-tive outlook, values education, and experiences success will have the best opportunity to graduate with hope for the future. William H. Kerr, Ed.D Superintendent of Schools

“The Y.E.S Program has helped many of our students achieve their goal of earning a diploma that otherwise would not have graduated. It has been very beneficial for our students that are not successful in the tradition-al school environment.” Matthew Pawk, Ed.D. Coordinator of Special Education & Psychological Services
