SCREW CLAMP TERMINAL BLOCKAltech terminal blocks feature screw clamps for maximum wiring efficiency and reliability. The blocks are suppliedwith open clamps, ready to accept wires. No special wire preparation or wire lugs are required. Simply strip thewire, insert and tighten the screw to the torque for gas-tight, vibration resistant, solid connections.
The screw clamp design uses a tin-plated, solid copper orsolid brass current bar with grooved serration, a steel cageclamp and screws. As the clamp is tightened, the wire ispressed firmly against the current bar, ensuring positive con-nections every time. The steel parts are zinc plated andchromate passivated for maximum resistance against oxida-tion.
When applying tightening torques, use our straight bladescrewdriver to fit the screw hole guides located in the ter-minal block housings.
THE DIN CONCEPTThe heart of the Altech philosophy is the standardized DIN Rail and snap-on terminal block. The DIN Rail makes possi-ble a compact, organized arrangement of terminal blocks and other DIN Rail mount components. This gives more thanjust the appearance of quality; it saves time and space, enhances design capabilities and provides a centralized con-nect-disconnect area where external and/or internal wiring can be connected quickly and efficiently. At the same time, the DIN concept allows designers to take advantage of constant advances in terminal block technology. Altech DINRail components do more than terminate wires. They distribute power and ground, protect against overloads and per-form a host of other sophisticated functions. Whatever the application: control systems, instrumentation, automa-tion—DIN Rail terminal blocks can help you create it and keep it as up-to-date as tomorrow.
ATEX APPROVEDTERMINAL BLOCKSMany of Altech terminal blocks are AEx eII Ex eII ATEX* approved. They can be used in potentially explosive applications whichmay occur in chemical and petrochemical industry. These terminals can be used in Class 1, Zones 0, 1 and 2 hazardous locations. These terminal blocks comply to EN 500019.The ATEX Directive besides taking into account the electrical sources of explosion, also considering potentially explosive concentrations of gas, vapor or mist along with dust in the air. The ATEX Directive identities two groups of equipment as per EN 50014.
Group 1 where the equipment is intended for use in mining applications.Group 2 where the equipment is intended for all situations other than mines. These groups are further classified into Zones. Zones are areas where there is risk of flammable material being released in the atmosphere. These zones describe the probability of a flammable material being released to atmosphere in explosive concentrations.Zone 0 is the highest risk zone where an explosive atmosphere is expected to exist continuously or for very long periods of time.Zone 1 is an area where an explosive atmosphere is expected to exist for short periods of time, but during a year the accumulation of suchevents is not in excess of 10000 hours.Zone 2 is an area where an explosive concentration of flammable material is not expected and should it be released it will only exist for a veryshort period of time and where the accumulation of events over a year does not exceed much in excess of 10 hours.*CERT #TUV 06 ATEX 2968U
CUSTOM ASSEMBLIESThe beauty of the DIN Rail concept is its convenience; the unsurpassed ease with which many different components and devicescan be mounted on the same rail.
Altech has made things even easier by making it possible for you to order custom designed assemblies with a single part numberor, for that matter, your own drawing number. No need to order amultitude of parts, no more unwanted inventories of bulk-pack-aged accessories.
Send Altech your drawings or specifications, and our experi-enced staff will build, mark and ship your assembly, ready forinstallation. Our on-staff engineers will also assist you in review-ing your drawings.
HOUSINGSThe metal parts of Altech terminal blocks are housed in precision-molded, self-extinguishing polyamide 6.6 material for maximumdielectric strength, electrical insulation and temperature resistance. Standard features on all housings include funnel-shaped wireentry openings and screwdriver guides.
SPRING CLAMP CONNECTIONThe spring clamp series terminal blocks offer a time saving alter-native to the popular screw clamp connection.
The pre-stressed spring is opened using a tool (screw driver) so theconductor can be inserted into the insertion space through an open-ing in the spring leg. The conductor is pulled against the current barunder spring force when the tool is removed.
A high contact force is acheived by the design of the spring clampsystem. The design delivers a secure and reliable connection forany application.

Last, but not least, the indispensable extras. End Stops prevent terminal blocks and other components from sliding laterally on therail. End Plates close off the last terminal in a row of terminals. Isolation Partitions provide visual separation of terminal groups andensure electrical isolation between adjacent terminals of different potentials. A wide selection of insulated and uninsulated fer-rules is offered for your applications and whenever stranded flexible wires must be terminated.
Finally, Altech’s carefully chosen, top-quality tools make wire preparation and connection fast, easy and efficient. Our selectionincludes insulated and uninsulated screwdrivers, wire strippers and hand, power and semi-automatic crimpers.
ACCESSORIESAltech offers a comprehensive array of DIN Rail accessories, carefully crafted to enhance your design capabilities and to put thecrucial finishing touch on your designs.
Internal and External Jumpers are available in standard 2, 3, 4 and 10 pole assemblies for interconnection to distribute potentialswithin terminal block assemblies.
Marking Tags make DIN Rail assemblies easier to wire and facilitate troubleshooting. Altech’s extensive terminal block marking sys-tem includes standard or custom imprinted snap-on tags in a variety of sizes for circuit identification. The Altech marking systemoffers two different versions of marking systems for printing of accessories.
DIN Rails are internationally standardized and available in 35mm, 32mm, and 15mm sizes, with or without perforations.
To help with your selection, the appropriate rail size for each terminal block is listed in the ordering information on each page.Additional selection and ordering information for DIN Rails can be found in the Accessories Section.

CGT4UUse ground blocks instead of groundingstuds and wire lugs to terminate groundwires, saving installation and wiring time.
Ground blocks clamp mechanically onto theDIN Rail by tightening the center mountingscrew, making a reliable electrical connec-tion between the cage clamp terminals andthe DIN Rail. The rail serves as a busbar andautomatically distributes ground potentialto all other ground terminals on the samerail.
Ground blocks can also be usedas end stops, preventing other terminalblocks and components from moving later-ally on the DIN Rail.
They are supplied with a standardgreen/yellow housing for easy identificationand accept standard marking tags.
CGT4U, CGT10U and CGT35U can bemounted on both DIN 32mm and DIN35mm rails.
CGT4N, CGT6N and CGT16N can be mount-ed on 35mm DIN rail and have the same topouter profile as the feed through blocks(CTS4U-N, CTS2.5U-N, CTS6U, CTS10U andCTS16U).

STH4DTSHSTH Series TerminalBlocks are preferred forapplication where the con-nections are subjected tosevere vibration. The wireis crimped to a ring / forklug and is screwed on tothe flat current bar of theTerminal Block. The hingedcarrier should be lifted toinsert the lugs and thenfastened to complete theconnection.
By virtue of the hingeddesign, the TerminalBlocks apart from shroud-ing the live parts, provid-ing IP 20 (Finger Safe) pro-tection, saves consider-able time in wiring.
Two Lugs can be connect-ed to the Terminal, withoutsacrificing the safety ofthe Terminal Block.
STH4DT Disconnect & TestTerminal Block is used formeasuring, control andregulatory circuits. Theyprovide a clear functionaladvantage for deviceshaving utility instrumentsand associated transform-ers.
Socket Headed Screws actas test monitoring pointon either side of theTerminal Block. Discon-nection is achieved bymeans of a slide link oper-ated with a Screw Driver.
STH4DTSH Terminal Blockhas 2 STH4DT TerminalBlock shorted to achieveswitchable cross connec-tion (on one side).
Note: The disconnectingdevice is not suitable forinterrupting load. The sup-ply must be switched offbefore operating the slidelink / moving the hingedcarrier.
PTB35SHPTB seriesTerminal Blocks are pre-ferred for application using wiresof large cross section. The Wire iscrimped to a ring / fork lug and isscrewed on to the flat current barof the Terminal Block. Speciallydesigned Mounting Feet holds theTerminal Block rigidly on to theMounting Rail.
Two Lugs of 35 sq.mm can be con-nected to theTerminal Block, with-out sacrificing the safety of theTerminal Block. Hinged ProtectiveCover makes the Terminal Blockshock proof (finger safe) and hasmarker recess to accept markingtag.
TheTerminal Blocks can be stackedtogether by pressing the adjacentTerminal Blocks firmly*. InPTB35SH series Terminal Blocks, adjacent terminals can be shortedby removing a thin wall partitionand using 2/3/4 way shorting link.
Optional Marker Holder MHPTB35can be used for installing markingtags on the Terminal Blocks with-out protective covers.
* M3 Screw of desired length withnut can be used optionally tosecure the stack.
The terminal has a moving typehinged carrier that has speciallydesigned space for cartridgetype glass fuse of size Ø 5 x 20or Ø 5 x 25 mm.The fuse can beengaged or disengaged by themovement of the carrier.
Cross connection is possiblewith specially designed push-intype jumpers.

INTERNAL JUMPER
1 Internal Jumpering System notavailable.
2 100 pole strip can be broken down toany number of poles desired.
Jumpering SystemThe jumpering systems bus poten-tials between terminal blocks, reduc-ing wiring time. Adjacent blocks orselective terminal blocks within anassembly can be easily interconnect-ed, leaving terminal clamps free forwiring. Purchase complete assem-blies, which are ready for installation,or select individual components tocreate custom or extra long jumpers.Jumper ampacity is lower than therated current of the respective termi-nal blocks, therefore, applied currentmust not exceed the maximum cur-rent value of the block. Internaljumpers may be used in combinationwith external jumpers to achieveadditional jumpering possibilities.
Internal Jumper AssembliesInternal Jumper Assemblies consist of aCurrent Bar, Shorting Sleeves andscrews. They install easily into the centerof the terminal block and connect to thecurrent bar. They are available as stan-dard 2, 3, 4 or 10 pole assemblies andare ready for immediate installation.Insulated internal jumpers provide shockprotection when installed on terminalblock assemblies.
External JumperExternal Jumpers bus potentialsbetween terminal blocks, reducingwiring time. Adjacent or selectedblocks within an assembly can beeasily interconnected. Jumper polesmay be removed for selectivejumpering. Jumpers are insulatedand available in 2, 3, 4 and 10 poleversions. They are made of tin platedbrass/copper.
Current BarsCurrent Bars are offered to createcustom jumper assemblies forincreased number of poles or customjumpers. Select the current bar withthe required number of poles, or fieldcut them to the required length.Theyare made of tin or nickel plated cop-per or brass.

Altech’s Eurostrips are safe, econom-ical and meet worldwide standards. They are a cost-effective alternativeto barrier strips that require labor-intensive wire lugs and they reducethe number of electrical connectionsin circuits.
Eurostrips feature tubular screwclamps, wire protectors, and areready for immediate wire hookup.Eurostrips are ideal in small spaces, which means more room for othercomponents or reduced enclosuresize. Free float or mount them ontoany panel. They are available ineasy-to-cut 12-pole strips or pre-cut.
Feed-Through Eurostrips are suppliedwith wire protectors. Offered withflat bases or standoff feet, they aremolded of self-extinguishingpolyamide. Custom imprinting andmarking plates are available.
EASY MOUNTING SAVESINSTALLATION TIMEEurostrips are mounted quickly in pan-els. Use standard screws or mountingpins, offered as accessories in this sec-tion, or leave them free floating to com-pletely eliminate mounting.
EASYCONNECTION SAVESMONEYWhat could be easier? Simply strip thewire insulation, insert the wire andtighten the screw to achieve a gas-tight,electrically efficient connection—everytime. Wire lugs are eliminated, savingmaterial cost and installation time.
EASY MODIFICATION REDUCESINVENTORYOffered in easy-to-cut 12-pole strips, theycan also be ordered precut with the requirednumber of poles. Polyamide housing canbe cut with a utility knife or hacksaw, providing flexibility to meet changingneeds. Because standard 12 pole stripscan be so easily cut to the required num-ber of poles, stocking is simplified andinventory is minimized.
RELIABLE CONNECTIONEVERY TIMEThe basis for the Eurostrip’s reliable con-nection is a precision machined tubularscrew clamp insert made from highlyconductive copper alloy which is nickelplated for maximum corrosion resist-ance. The clamping screw material is
high strength steel toprevent screw headbreakage or threaddamage. This providestrouble free opera-
tion. Screws areelectrogalva-
nized and bluechro-mated to provide cor-
rosion resistance. Optional nickel platedbrass screws may be ordered for highlycorrosive environments or marine appli-cations.
Standard Eurostrips feature stainlesssteel wire protectors. Unlike wire pro-tectors found in many competitive prod-ucts which use copper alloy materials, stainless steel has superior memorycharacteristics. Accordingly, the wireprotector will return to its original posi-tion even after repeated use. Thismeans trouble-free wire insertion andquicker reconnections.
HOUSINGSEurostrip housings are injection moldedfrom self-extinguishing polyamide 66/6,V-O molding material, possessing highdielectric strength and excellent electri-cal insulation and temperature resist-ance. Each housing has been speciallydesigned to provide creepage and clear-ance distances to achieve ratings up to600V. Choose low profile, flat basehousings for minimum clearance appli-cations (300V) or housings with mount-ing feet for maximum voltage isolation(600V).
ACCESSORIESExternal jumpers bus potentialsbetween poles on Eurostrips, eliminat-ing wire jumpers and reducing wiringtime. Isolation partition increases clear-ance between adjacent poles and pro-vides visual separation for more effi-cient wiring. Mounting pins simplifyinstallation and mounting of Eurostrips.Simply drill the mounting hole, positionand install the pin from underneath thepanel. When correct position isreached, pin will retain terminal topanel.
Identify circuits and reduce wiring mis-takes with marking plates. Order platesimprinted or blank. Position under or ontop of a Eurostrip housing.
Imprinting Eurostrips reduces wiringerrors and helps to identify circuits. UseImprinting to mark individual poleswhen high quantities are involved orcustom imprints are required.

Ferrules insure reliableelectrical connectionswhen terminating strand-ed flexible wire in termi-nal blocks, circuit breakersor other control devices.
Insulated ferrules preventconductor breakage dueto bending, wire stress orvibration while facilitatingwire insertion into the ter-minal clamp.
Altech’s DIN standard fer-rules are in compliancewith DIN requirements, making them ideal forexport applications. Theyalso have a specified colorcode convention that dif-fers from the color codeused for Altech’s industrystandard ferrules.
To ensure efficient ferrulecrimping, always selectthe smallest ferrule diam-eter that fits the wire anduse only professionalcrimping tools. (Pleaserefer to the orderingpages and the CrimperSelector Guide on page98.)

Crimper Tools
Altech's pneumatic crimping toolsspeed the crimping process of insulat-ed or uninsulated ferrules for a widerange of wire sizes up to 8 AWG.
Altech pneumatic crimpers are simpleand easy to use. Just install the ferruleover the end of the stripped wire andinsert it into either the front or side toolopening. Then touch the actuating leveror push the footswitch pedal to initiatethe crimp cycle. Once the head closes itwill automatically reopen after crimp-ing.The resulting crimp features a com-pact trapezoidal cross section which ismechanically very strong and providesa large surface to insure a highly effi-cient electrical contact.
Crimp ferrules efficiently and economi-cally. A unique dual crimping head pro-vides convenient front or side wireentry, allowing crimping from multiplepositions. This features makes crimpingin tight places simple.
Choose either lever actuated, handheld units or hands-free footswitchoperated table top models, in two basictool sizes. Hand held models feature aflexible coil air-hose with 1/4" NPTinterchange connector for quick hook-up with a standard push-to-connectcoupler.
The table top units also include a flexi-ble coil air hose to the footswitch and a1/4" NPT interchange located on thefootswitch for one hand push-to-con-nect supply hook-up. They feature asturdy metal base with integral tableclamp and dual storage trays for quickaccess to the ferrule supply. The airrelease port on the footswitch has beenquieted with a sintered bronze airsilencer. The footswitch has a metalframe and a tough fiberglass shroud. Its spring return pedal provides forshort actuating cycles.
Optional items for the hand heldcrimper include a counterbalance formaximum control and a magnetic hold-er for storage.
