Letter from the President The collegiate experience doesn’t have to end with graduation day. Through organizations like the Orange County Alumnae chapter we can continue to live our purpose throughout our lives. Last December, our group had the honor of gathering in Newport to celebrate more than a dozen women living in our area who have continued to be active parts of our sisterhood for the past 25, 50 and 75 years. In any way, big or small, we can continue to make it our mission to inspire women and impact the world. Whether it’s attending an upcoming sisterhood event, participating in a Foundation fundraiser or taking a more active role as a part of our board, there are numerous ways to get involved. Check out our newsletter for ways you can continue to live with purpose. We look forward to seeing you!

Surrounded By Sisterhood

For many years, Alpha Gamma Deltas gathered to celebrate May 30 as Founders' Day. This became increasingly difficult since many colleges and universities were either closed or taking final exams. In 1936, Founders' Day became a historic term and was replaced with International Reunion Day (IRD), which is to be celebrated on the third Saturday of April every year. IRD is a time to develop or rekindle Fraternity friendships and to renew and develop understanding of the

true meaning of Alpha Gamma Delta.

Saturday, April 26, the Orange County Alumnae, Los Angeles Area Alumnae, and Long Beach Alumnae Chapters hosted International Reunion Day in Norwalk, CA. Sisters from three Southern California chapters gathered for an afternoon of congeniality and sharing in lifelong sisterhood.

Stephannie Sack Bailey acted as keynote speaker, addressing over 200 Alpha Gamma Delta women. Her eloquent presence and encouraging words were more than welcome, and the OCAC, LAAAC, and LBAC are grateful she was able to visit from International Headquarters.

Along with Stephannie, OCAC, LAAAC, and LBAC were happy to invite the newly initiated members of Chapman’s Delta Tau Chapter,

USC’s Delta Alpha Chapter, and UCLA’s Delta Epsilon Chapter. Each Chapter President spoke on how their respective chapters have been busy contributing to the world’s work in a variety of ways. The collegiate women shared stories of philanthropy events in which they had participated over the course of the semester, along

with some personal stories in support of sisters who are in the process of overcoming adversities.

IRD was a huge success, bringing together women from all over the country. Special thanks goes to the women who were involved in the planning and execution of the event. Orange County Junior Circle President, Amy Blake, and Los

Angeles Junior Circle President, Laura Gordon worked especially hard to put together the beautiful inaugural

event.

As a member of the Board, you will be responsible for one of the following positions. Aside from the duties of your office, sisters are expected to attend OCAC Board meetings regularly, reply to important correspondence in a timely manner, and remain in good standing throughout their time in office.

President

She must be a leader in whom members have confidence; have knowledge of the Fraternity, its rules and procedures; be able to motivate other officers to perform their duties; be able to conduct a proper business meeting and be fair and just. It is desirable that she has past experience in other alumnae offices.

Vice President

She must be able to organize

member and telephone calling lists. She must have the ability to meet and greet others with warmth and enthusiasm. She should have excellent communication skills. She must be able to assume the duties and responsibilities of the President in her absence or at her call.

Secretary

She must be able to translate the spoken word into written with clarity and accuracy, be meticulous in detail, be able to type, be prompt in completing minutes and be faithful in attendance at meetings.

Permanent Secretary

She must be able to work alone, be conscientious in keeping accurate and up-to-date records, be neat and accurate in details, and must be willing to accept the office for an extended period of time. It is desirable that she has a wide knowledge of members over many years. President Beth Hartnett is currently serving as interim Permanent Secretary. Treasurer

She must have sound budgetary and management skills and be detail oriented. She must be dependable, accurate, trustworthy and meticulous in record keeping.

Editor

She must have the ability to write in

an interesting style, have knowledge of composition and grammar, be alert to newsworthy items and be informed about Fraternity policies and terminology. Training or experience in journalism is helpful. Knowledge and use of computers is

desirable.

Get Involved! Every year, the Orange County Alumnae Chapter holds open elections to give any

interested alumnae the chance to become more involved in our sisterhood. The OCAC Board is a tight knit group of

women who are always looking for new ways to enhance our bond outside of the

college experience. We would love for you to join us!

This year, the ladies did an amazing job with recruitment. Alpha Gamma Delta is one of the largest and most desirable

chapters on the Chapman University campus. These women continue to bring

quality women into the Alpha Gamma Delta sisterhood. The

Delta Tau Chapter is a wonderful mix of outstanding women who all come together

under one goal: Living with Purpose.

Since Recruitment, the women have continued to thrive on

campus, taking 5th place overall (among 17 houses) in Skit Night

and broadening their philanthropic contributions

with “Serve It Up for Diabetes.”

alumnae about what life is like now--post collegiate Alpha Gam days.

It is a great way to help the collegiate women begin networking and even receive mentoring from sisters in

their potential field of work!
