What is a CEO? “As a CEO you have to be committed to a life that is largely defined by your work, and you have to possess a combination of the right business skills for your industry and the leadership abilities to see your vision live.” “The CEO needs to know the ins and outs of their own organization – responsible for its culture and goals, but they also need to have an exceptionally clear idea of the external field: who is the competition, what are the industry trends and what is the perception of the brand?” “The CEO is ultimately where the buck stops – you are responsible for the overall strategic vision of an organization as well as its success or failure”
Strategy The strategy of Alpha Dive Academy during the presentation of the CEO in Training Program:
Dive training will be based on the internationally recognized Scuba Schools International (SSI) qualification
The CEO in Training Programs will be based on programs, lectures and presentations by leaders in the South African dive industry
The philosophy of Alpha Dive Academy will be “exposure”, this includes:
o Exposure to the best scuba training programs
o Exposure to instructors with significant dive training experience
o Exposure to mentors with diving, business and life experience
o Exposure to the local dive industry through the South Africa Dive Industry Tour.
o Exposure to all the different dive (ocean and land locked) conditions of South Africa

Goals and Objectives The objective of the CEO in Training Program is to develop an aspiring scuba diver into an industry specialist and leader with a broad understanding of all sectors that make up the industry. Students participating in the program should be viewed by the industry as its future leaders. Once the students have completed the program they will have internationally recognized certifications that would open the door to a wide variety of opportunities in the dive industry. The sole objective of the traditional diving internship program is to qualify divers as open water instructors. The objective of the CEO in Training Program is to prepare students for a career in the diving industry, expose students to different components that make up the industry while at the same time ensuring that students obtain the most sought after qualifications that the dive industry has to offer. Training the student to become the next CEO in the diving industry will ensure that they get to meet, are mentored by and work side to side with the leaders of the South African dive industry.
Program Structure Overview The program will be broken down into four semesters. The focus of the first semester will be on learning to dive, exposure to and qualifying in various dive specialties and achieving Master Scuba Diver level. The CEO in Training Programs will expose the student to practical training in the dive shop, learning point of sale techniques, equipment maintenance, managing sales and cash registrar. The highlight of the second semester will be the student receiving their first professional qualification as a Dive Master. During the CEO in Training Programs in the second semester the student will complete MS Office, Pastel Accounting, Financial Planning, Dive Travel Planning and create a CV for job applications. The third semester of the CEO in Training Program makes the program unique in South Africa. The objective of this semester is to introduce the student to “the ins and outs” of the South African dive industry. The highlight of the third semester will be the South Africa Dive Industry Tour. The tour will take the students across the country visiting and diving some of the best and most unique dive sites our coast line and inland venues have to offer. During this tour the students will visit and meet industry leaders and entrepreneurs. The students will use the tour to identify a suitable host for their Internship. The fourth semester will consist of the STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Super Crew Course which includes Marine Firefighting, Elementary First Aid at sea, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Personal Survival Training and Designated Security Duties. The STCW10 certification is a minimum requirement for anyone wanting to work internationally on Super Yachts.

These days a major component of the dive industry is dive travel. Anyone involved in diving will one day either plan and organize a dive trip for themselves or will facilitate dive travel for other people (clients). Together with the travel component one of the goals of the program is to expose the students to all sectors of the dive industry and it became an obvious conclusion to combine all these objectives into one project. The trip will involve the students researching the South African diving catalogue, identifying a list of the most diverse diving locations, planning a tour to visit these locations, meeting the industry leaders based in each of the major diving centers of South Africa as well as gaining experience of diving in all the different salt and fresh water conditions of South Africa. During the tour the students will be exposed to the different diving operators and will use the opportunity to distribute their CV’s as well as identify possible locations for their internship. During the tour there will also be a focus on the industry of diving including site visits to:
The major equipment manufactures in South Africa

2. Internship Program
During the dive tour the student will identify one business in the industry where they would like to
develop a better understanding and experience. Assisted by the Academy they would apply at the
business or organisation to conduct their internship at the facility.
The Academy would provide both the host and the student with a task list that would need to be
completed in order for the student to progress to the next semester. Both the student and the host
would be appraised and this would form part of the students overall evaluation at the end of the
CEO program.

everyone can make an impact to this cause in their daily lives.
Over and above the curriculum outlined below, the students will be involved in a community service
