Emma Bell

Being an artist able to express myself through sculpting is a God given talent. I continually expand on that by studying with the masters of sculpture. Art is a personal expression of what is around me and the experiences I have had in life.

Growing up in Arizona and New Mexico and traveling throughout the West, the culture of the American Indian and the western style of life influenced me the most.

Having learned facial anatomy with some of the more renowned sculptors Tom Williams and Philippe Faraut, I have expanded my work to create commissioned portraits of adults and children.

Studying sculpture and the detail of famous works by James Earl Fraser, Remington, Rodin and others revealed to me the true artistry of making a piece of art look and feel as if were real and alive. When commissioned to create a bust, I work to capture the expression recognizable through the eyes. Working with water based clay allows me to “feel” the figure coming to life through my hands. When completed and fired, the pieces are hand painted and are one-of-a-kind originals.

The bases upon which the sculptures rest are handmade … I embellish the Southwestern works with materials of nature I have collected from the desert, old buildings or natural stone. To honor the masters that came before me, I attach coins that those masters engraved and were used by the U.S. mint, such as Fraser’s Indian Head Nickels.

Emma Bell, a British born artist, now lives in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Emma is an internationally acclaimed artist with collectors in the USA, UK, Europe and Australia. Emma paints using oil on canvas with a brush and palette knife. Her style includes bright bold florals, fun abstracts and

impressionistic pieces, as well as realistic landscapes and seascapes.

'My painting process takes place in two stages. First I paint the background - a graduation of subtle colors all blended together with a brush. Once the canvas is completely covered, I layer on texture and dimension. Using my palette knife, I add rich vibrant color.'

'I am also drawn to the beauty of flowers which I love to paint in bold bright colors with lots of texture. Poppies are a favorite subject. In a field of poppies I see individual characters, some happy with their heads held high, some bowing in sorrow. Their individual personalities are alive in my work.'

‘There is something about the sea that captivates and evokes a deep emotion within me and I like to portray that in my paintings. I am particularly drawn to large waves - the sheer volume of water is so overwhelming and empowering and I like to convey this dramatic image on canvas with big bold strokes of oil created with a palette knife.'

Isabelle Gautier grew up in a little village in Normandy, just a few miles from the Mont-Saint-Michel, in Western France.

It was not until 1999 that she moved to Atlanta with her American husbands and two sons where they live and work today.

Gautier’s Art is a fascinating reflection of her European heritage and adopted American culture. Her extensive travels across all continents have left a lasting impression on her oeuvre, making her artwork both personal and universal.

Is there a better way than art to bring people from all over the world together in a celebration of beauty? Painting is the way I reach out to people. My favorite tool, the palette knife, allows me to keep the deep pigments in the acrylic paint, my preferred medium. In each painting there is a little something unexpected, a small “je ne sais quoi”, at the point of creation, which makes my art original. It can be an odd stroke, an unnatural balance, a particular color or design…

My inspiration is to paint until I find my own balance in the painting, where the art lover can feel an emotional and/or intellectual connection. I wish to share my love for nature. It is literally my source of energy, that I hope to share with my collectors. My quest is not to create the illusion of reality but to suggest with colors and composition the inherent nature of the aesthetic object or feeling.
