Alonzo King LINES Ballet Summer Program

The LINES Ballet Summer Program offers two intense sessions each summer designed to immerse students from all over the country in the LINES Ballet training philosophy. Students audition in one of 17 cities around the country, and abroad, for the opportunity to come to San Francisco to train in preparation for their professional careers. Participants experience a rigorous schedule that includes Ballet, Pointe, Men’s Class, Improvisation, Modern, LINES Ballet Repertoire, and GYROTONIC®. Providing valuable exposure to process-oriented work, the curriculum uniquely includes collaboration with distinguished choreographers on the creation of a new work. All students have the opportunity to work with current and former members of LINES Ballet and a diverse group of master artists. Audition dates and locations for Summer 2017 will be announced in November of this year.

LINES Ballet Training Philosophy

“The cornerstone that shapes the training philosophy at LINES Ballet Summer Program is that art is within the artist. Creative intelligence is a part of mankind’s makeup as are heart, brain, and lungs. We believe that each individual has a singularly unique voice. Our aim is to strengthen and hone that interior voice in each student, while establishing in them a deep seated dance foundation. LINES Ballet Summer Program teaches movement as a science that extracts the best attributes of all dance forms with ballet (western classical dance) as our mainstay.

In LINES Ballet’s training philosophy, each individual’s interior facility is tapped, cajoled, nourished, and brought forth. By focusing on individual character, we are offering a key to knowledge and awareness that will be utilized whether or not the student chooses to pursue a performing career in dance.”

“At LINES I feel like I transformed from a ballet student into a respected artist. While I will always be learning, the teachers here taught me how to think and discover rather than mimic. I have been pushed farther than I would have sometimes but that only showed me how much more I am capable of.”

Alonzo King LINES Ballet is only able to develop students’ unique, indi-vidual voices with your support. Honor and celebrate the achievements of these young artists by making a contribution that will help LINES Ballet continue this transformative work.
