FASH ION

After a clean shave, you want to be complimented – not just for smooth skin but also what you spritz on. There is a variety to choose from; there is the classic Dior Homme. This musky scent is perfect for day because it mixes well with most natural body oils.

Contrary to belief, the pocket square is not a handkerchief. It is an extension of the man wearing the suit.

The best shoes for the embellished suits are the Classic Oxfords. Their thick soles and artistic designs make it a trend setter for every man who knows his shoes.

The Shoe Appeal

Typical suits are black, grey or cream. Be adventurous with a splash of two or three colours. A match of blue pants, white shirt and red embellished suit. You want to command respect when you walk into a room, as stylish and business minded.

How long have you been into the make -up?I have been doing this since 2000, so this will make it 14years.

What kind of make-up have you adopted for the show?Well we are doing a lot of fresh looks and bronzing. We have a lot of people showcasing girly designs so we want them to look young on the face, not overly stretched, even if the makeup is bold it will only be on the lips. The kitten eye trend too will be used to create a sensual appeal.

What kind of products do you use?I use a wide range of products, my favorites are Milani, Mary Kay and Mac. I use mostly Mary Kay products for the base and mix with Milani and I use the Milani pow-der and a bit of Zaron powder as well.

What makes you stand out among other makeup Artists?Based on what people say, I will answer that question,

have to evaluate you. I have heard people say that

I usually work with what is on ground that is to say, I know how to give you what you ask for, especially if it is a look you ask me to reproduce. I am comfortably an all rounder.

How long does it take to make the mod-els up?

fast because when you calculate the amount of models

all work at the same pace. I had to step up my game especially since I was leading the team. But in the end all the models came out looking gorgeous.

There are various models with certain temperament issues how do you deal with such?Truthfully for this show I have not come across such, all

the models have been cool, especially when they see my work on one of their colleagues. I realized that every time I did a job, people would come and sit down or line up to be made up by me. The fresh look we adopted was loved by everybody and so nobody complained or lost their cool.

Have you ever handled an event this big?Yes, I was the lead makeup person last year. I have also done the MTN fashion show and other fashion shows as well. But this is by far the biggest. This is on an International scale. I had the opportunity to work with models like Millen Magese and models from all over the world, I have been really exciting.

How do you handle models with skin issues? With these models I ask them what kinds of products

because we only use products their skin is used to.

The Native and Vogue runway hairstyles were simple but chic. The Hair styl-ists included “Bobby’s Signature” and “Make Me” both very experienced hair stylists based in Lagos. They chose the classic ponytails, straight and the bun. As for the makeup “Divine Looks Makeovers” made the models look absolute-ly divine with emphasis on the lips. What is the signature hairstyle for the runway? There are different styles in mind but all are in forms of ponytails; from the simple bun, to the straight ponytail, to the braid and so on. We will just switch them up a bit.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? My name is Rob Evans and I am a boxer, an actor, a

model.

Where are you from? I am from London originally but I live in Los Angeles.

What do you think about the Native and Vogue Port Harcourt International Fashion Week?

Do you like Nigeria?

Do you think you would come to Nigeria again?

What did you think about the designers who showcased at the event?

What do you think about your fellow models in the show?

or any Fashion shows here?

ROB EVANS

When Rob Evans was discovered in 2010, the last thing he was thinking about was modelling – he would have probably laughed and shrugged off the notion – let alone creating a sensation walking the Givenchy Spring/ Summer 2011 Men’s Show in Paris, France. He was in Oxford, United Kingdom, training at his local boxing gym to maintain his

amazing 6’3 physique. Many have tried but we really haven’t had a Black male model stir up a buzz since the legendary Tyson Beckford. So far,

modelling has allowed Evans to walk in shows in Paris. The 2011 New York Fashion Week had designers scrambling to include his stunning presence in their runway shows. Photographers have been breaking necks to get the opportunity to capture him in front of their lens

Rob Evans, born in 1988, in Oxford, United Kingdom, is a combination of British and Irish, a boxer turned model, most notably known for his work with “Givenchy” for the Spring 2011 season. We introduce you to one of the new faces of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 19, Rob Evans. Obviously gorgeous, Rob spoke to our style correspondent, Fatima Garba, about his life and experience as one of the judges on the show with Tyra Banks.

How do you usually start your day?Usually, I start my day by meditating on the

upcoming day followed by a glass of hot water. It is (great for the constitution), next I check my emails, browse on social media sites for breaking news that happened while I was asleep.

Do you have a daily routine?

what’s on my to-do-list. While I’m home, I get my older kid fed and ready for school, get the little one his breakfast and start sorting out my day as well in the studio.

How do you balance work with personal life?

I just try to do my best really, don’t we all? I have to joggle like all other working mothers, make joint decisions with my husband, nanny, kids, clients and my team. The end game is to make sure not to drop any important balls.

choice?Absolutely. For instance, I have to attend a lot of

red-carpet and fashion events for work and be in the studio a lot for post-production work. So I make sure I have a home-based post-production studio so that I can still take time out for family and maintain my work obligations. Also, I don’t attend every single event. I have to be very choosy with that and just do my absolute best to be present whenever I am there.

How would you describe your style?I used to be really adventurous and bohemian-

Afro-Eclectic Futuristic- that should be fun.

TWENTY FOURIN HRS

What’s your theory on looking and feeling good?

Be comfortable in your own skin. If you don’t like the way you look, do something positive to change it. If you can’t change it, then get in front of the mirror every morning and tell yourself you love that face staring back at you. Don’t look for validation and acceptance from others, always. Start with yourself

Do you have any particular eating habit that you’re religious to?

Drinking my hot water in the

plantains and another glass of hot water before I go to bed.

Are you an exercise junkie? If not,

I tend to not exercise for long periods of time, until I hit a particular point in my head and on the scale then I’m like ok- time to get back in shape – then I do

at least three days weekly in the gym for an hour. 30 minutes cardio and 30 minutes weight training

Hello my dear readers today we shall be pausing on the food trends and assessing methods of eating healthy and maintaining a clean system. Accessories are a basic fashion necessity in every outfit; they turn an outfit from plain to chic. At the Native and Vogue Port Harcourt International Fashion Week, designers did not leave accessories out in their various collections. From head turbans to head veils, satchel bags, fascinators, hats, sunglasses, sandals, men carry- on bags and even helmets. All these and more were showcased. Below, a peak at some accessory trends on the N&V runway.

PEOPLE“ONE PARTY AT A TIME!”

Finance Minister and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Hajia Salamatu Umar-Eluma, Director of Human Resources, FAAN; and, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Aviation, were among role models who were honoured for impacting their environment re-cently. They were inducted into the MMS Plus’ Woman of Fortune Hall of Fame 2014.

The third of an annual event, this year’s MMS Plus’ Woman of Fortune Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on September 23, 2014 at the NAN Media Centre, Iganmu, Lagos, with the theme: ‘Building Capacity for Transforma-tive Leadership.’

This year’s event, according to Mr. Kingsley Anaroke, Chief Executive of Kings Communi-cation Limited, organizers of the ceremony, was in honour of late Prof. Dora Akunyili, former Minister of Information as well as former Direc-tor General of NAFDAC, for her avid contribu-tions to the health sector and to nation building in general.

It came as no surprise when the annual ‘The Event Show’ rolled around for a fourth year running. The entire operation is a brainchild of Mrs Izobe Spiff, MD of Tres Bien Events and native to the city of Port Harcourt where the show is also based. This time around it was held at Aztech Arcum with a focus on Ideas to Start-Ups. Apart from its usual features of products exhibition, seminars and workshops, there were calls for entry of budding business ideas, mentoring and follow-ups for stability. The two-day event featured vendors in their designated booths, general lectures on the impact of social media for businesses, a catwalk presentation of various designers and entertainment headlined by Skales. The result was an impressive, well attended and co-ordinated success.

Delivering her keynote address, Dr. Kema Chik-we, Chairperson, Governing Council of the Board of MMS Hall of Fame, said that the project was a sig-nificant one as the award was not only being given to serving women but also remembering the late Prof. Dora Akunyili, whom she described as an institution in the country. She also noted that the award focuses on gender issues in development.

Chief Guest of Honour, Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Cabotage and Shipping Development, Federal Ministry of Transport, Mallam Mohammed Umar, called on women, especially, the younger generation, to be more focused and emulate accom-plished women for the development of the nation.

“We need to set our agenda, have our objectives clear, remain focused, persist with dedication and the sky is the limit. We will succeed. If we want to move this country, then each and every one of us should remain focused and dedicated,” the minister noted.

The event was spiced with comedy and musical performances by notable Nigerian acts.
